Countdown to Completion Corn Exchange & Studio Theatre Refurbishment Update

2022 is going to be an exciting year as we move towards the completion of the Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre venues into a vibrant, creative and accessible cultural destination. The restoration of the Grade I and Grade II listed heritage buildings has been a complex process over the last five years, and we could never have predicted some of the unexpected challenges that have happened during that time. Having these magnificent buildings come back to life is a huge milestone for us but also for the wider city and for you, our audiences, as we look forward to welcoming you back and showing you around. Over the next few months, we’ll be installing new seating, production and backstage facilities as well as new bars and a café/restaurant partnership on New Road. Plans for what happens in the venues will also get into full swing and we’re consulting with local artists, community groups, neighbours and our audiences to find out what they want to see in the events programme and how they want to use the spaces to create their own work.

Whether you want to see your favourite artist (or be amazed by a new one), relax over a drink or bite to eat, hire the space for a private event, develop new artistic work or perform on our stages these venues are here to be shared by everyone. We are so grateful to all of our funding partners, supporters and everyone who has donated to the Build Brighton Dome appeal so far. We still need to reach our fundraising target and there are many ways you can help support the final phase of refurbishment. You can donate by naming a seat in the new spaces (see next page), or next time you buy drinks at the Concert Hall bar, ask to ‘round up my round’ and donate a few pounds to our campaign – every bit really does help. To celebrate this rich history we’re dedicating a number of seats to the artists who have made an impact on our lives - from David Bowie to Ella Fitzgerald - and we’re inviting you to take your seat alongside them. By naming a seat in the Corn Exchange or Studio Theatre, you’ll be supporting the completion of these magnificent buildings into a creative space where the next generation of artists can thrive. Comedy Club 4 Kids Since 2005, Comedy Club 4 Kids has been running comedy workshops for children, aged 8+, in schools, theatres and at festivals. Our teachers are CRB checked comics and stage professionals, who teach the kids how to write and perform comedy, finding the funny in their own experiences and turning it into stand-up and sketches. Participants learn to stand tall in the armour of self-confidence; to be comfortable on the stage, and in themselves. We can give bullied kids something to be proud of, draw out the quiet ones, calm down the noisy ones, and show them all how to shine. Entry Requirements Currently, upon arrival, as well as having your eTickets ready, all members of your party over the age of 18 must come prepared to demonstrate their COVID-19 status on entry. You can demonstrate this in ONE of the following ways: • You have completed a full course of vaccination at least 14 days ahead of the event (currently 2 vaccinations, no booster is yet required by the Covid pass app) or • You have received a negative PCR or lateral flow test result within 48 hours of the event Lateral Flow Tests are available free to all via many pharmacies, the GOV.uk website or by calling 119 Although there are other ways to prove this without use of a smartphone, the simplest way is via the NHS COVID Pass which is an online app providing a certificate that demonstrates your status. Security Like all public buildings and spaces, Brighton Dome has a number of security measures in place to help minimise the possibility of a terrorist attack in the venues. These measures include procedures should an attack actually happen. To make your visit as safe, secure and enjoyable as possible we carefully assess each event alongside the current security risk set by the government to decide what security measures need to be in place. These additional security measures may include bag checks, limitations on what can be taken into the auditorium and ticket checks on the outer gates of the venue. We work hard to protect the safety and security of our visitors, performers and staff and where possible to mitigate against the likelihood of an attack. We will be continually reviewing the measures we have in place as appropriate and in line with relevant direction from the security services.

You can play a part in keeping yourselves and the rest of the audience safe by being vigilant to unusual behaviour or items and reporting any concerns you have to our Duty staff. Bags Owing to Covid 19 there is no cloakroom operating at events currently and all items must remain with the owner. Please avoid bringing bags to the venue and do not try to bring any larger items with you. Only bags no larger than an A3 piece of paper 35cm x 40cm x 19cm are permitted. Noise Loud noise can damage your hearing. We have earplugs available at all events should you want to use these. We post signage at the entrance to the auditorium when noise levels are expected to exceed 85db at any point.
