Kin Gecko

Award-winning and internationally acclaimed physical theatre company Gecko, led by Artistic Director Amit Lahav, present the first live performance to mark Brighton Dome’s reopened Corn Exchange.

Kin presents a provocative story of desperation and compassion, inspired by the epic journey from Yemen to Palestine that Amit Lahav’s grandmother Leah made with her family in 1932 to escape persecution.

At a time when the re-birth of community and acceptance seem vital to our survival, Gecko’s international devising performers bring their own experiences of migration, racism, empathy, and home to this poetically intoxicating performance.

For over a hundred years, Brighton & Hove has been home to some of the foremost female entertainers in the country. This illustrated talk looks at the household names and some of the lesser-known women who have kept us on the edge of our seats.

Find out about opera star, Adeline Patti, who once demanded no less than $5,000 in gold for a performance and caused a storm when she appeared at Brighton Dome in 1901. Hear the story of Evelyn Dove, the first Black woman to sing on BBC Radio, who performed at Brighton Dome as part of the Southern Syncopated Orchestra in 1921.

- a new artists creative space

Anita’s Room is our brand new creative space for local, national and international artists and creative organisations, opening later this year. Part of Brighton Dome’s newly refurbished spaces and developed in consultation with our In-House Artists, Anita’s Room is a place to research, experiment and create bold and courageous new work. The space is fully equipped with a lighting grid, mixing desk and the latest 5G technology and can accommodate up to 40 people within its main space, office and kitchen areas.

Anita’s Room will be available free of charge to Brighton Dome associate and resident artists, visiting artists and creatives, and for community and creative learning projects and activities. Users will be invited to book the space via a simple application process, overseen by a team of local artists and creative practitioners working alongside the programming team at Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival.

Anita’s Room is named in memory of activist, entrepreneur and founder of The Body Shop, Dame Anita Roddick.

It was made possible following a generous grant from The Roddick Foundation, a family-run philanthropic organisation dedicated to the support of visionary organisations and individuals demonstrating exceptional creativity, entrepreneurial spirit and courage.

We are grateful for The Roddick Foundation’s support for this area of our redevelopment which adds vital infrastructure to our city’s creative sector. Keep an eye on our website for details of the application process and we look forward to welcoming artists to the space soon.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic people to come on board as Front of House volunteers at our range of creative, music and comedy events. Become an integral and valuable member of the Brighton Dome community and receive opportunities to train and gain experience. We are also seeking Heritage Volunteers for some exciting upcoming projects. This is a friendly and fun way to learn more about the history of Brighton Dome as a venue and a building.

• Concessions where available are for Under 16’s and students, over 60’s, Universal Credit, registered disabled/ DLV or ESA/IB with valid ID

• There is a £3 per order charge for phone and online booking (not applicable for Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival members)

• We believe customers shouldn’t pay more than our advertised price. To deter buying and selling tickets for personal gain, we may hold tickets for collection and require the credit/debit card used for the original transaction

Sustainable Transport

Brighton train station is just over 10 minutes’ walk via Queens Road and Church Street or through the North Laines

There are frequent bus services from all parts of the city and into Sussex stopping at North Street and Old Steine

Bikes can be locked up on racks at the bottom of Church Street or New Road. Alternatively, BTN Bike Share have bike stations across the city including Church Street opposite Brighton Dome
