MEET JENNIVER! YOUR EDUCATION OFFICER Hi, I am Jenniver your Education Officer for this academic year. I have recently graduated from the Brighton Business School with a degree in Law. I am looking forward to meeting all the new course REPS and engaging with you and listening to your feedback and concerns. I look forward to seeing you work closely with the student union for us to help you and your course mates have the best university experience. Being a course REP is such a rewarding experience as it builds up your confidence in communicating with staff, you are essentially the voice of the students. Being a course REP for two years whilst studying my degree I believe it has increased my employability skills and has helped me in becoming a sabbatical officer. A lot of change has happened in my course by providing feedback students provided me with, your lecturers and course leaders want to make sure they are delivering the course to meet your needs.

VISIT THE WEBSITE FOR MORE INFORMATION: Be sure to keep an eye on our website all year round to gain access to all the training materials and resources available for course reps.

Who You’ll Regularly Be Working With. • •

The students you represent In order to find out their views. Other Course Reps To work together on issues that might be effecting more than one course, and share ideas. Staff in your school To put across students ideas.

How to Create Effective Change. As an elected representative, you have the power to create the learning environment that meets the needs of you and your cohort. Here are some top tips on how to be an effective representative for your students: 1. Make sure your students know you exist! In order to represent the needs of your cohort, they need to know who you are, what your role is, and how they can contact you. Why not make a Facebook page, or hold regular drop ins with your students. To make sure students know who you are, you can now collect your course rep hoodie from your campus office! 2. Remember yours is the most important voice in the room- you are the expert on being a student, and you are mandated to represent the student voice. Your lecturers and course leaders want to hear what you have to say. 3. Be persistent - making changes is not always quick and easy. Stick with it, and you’ll find that things will fall into place. 4. Make sure you’re inclusive of everyone’s experiences. Try to reach out to those students who might not usually get a chance to be heard.
