SHOW SPECIAL!
HOT OFF THE PRESS – THE QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER FROM THE BRIGHTSEA PRINT GROUP
Brightsea make major investment in new technology As part of our continued investment in the very latest printing technology, Brightsea Print Group have made our biggest ever single purchase in the form of the Heidelberg Speedmaster XL75 printing press. Delivering to our customers the highest quality print product possible is part of our mission to maintain our reputation as the South West's leading print group. The installation of the new press will take place over the Easter holiday to ensure there is minimum disruption in service to our customers. We also have full use of two Heidelberg Speedmaster SM74 five colour presses, should the installation overrun. This piece of kit is assembled and tested on-site over a period of days by a full team of Heidelberg engineers.
f
The Speedmaster can produce up to 18,000 sheets per hour and gives optimum colour matching and quality control. The press continually measures colour, ink consistency and print quality throughout each print run. New innovations, such as the Prinect Inpress Control increases productivity by around 30%. The XL75 has a fully automatic set-up and high production stability even at the fastest speeds. It reduces make ready times and creates less startup waste. It offers a level of print performance that has never been seen before and is even more eco-friendly. These faster make ready times, higher running speeds and production stability means that we can guarantee fast turnarounds and offer highly
competitive prices time after time, without compromising on quality. We can't wait to start this next chapter in the evolution of our business and look forward to producing some jawdropping print for our customers.

Refreshing Re-brand Our creative team were delighted when an existing customer recommended us for an upcoming re-brand job for a client in Taunton. Bodyfix Clinics, owned by husband and wife team Rob and Caroline Date, is a sports injury and physiotherapy clinic offering a wide range of services including massage, physiotherapy, acupuncture and preventative sports technique and cycling workshops. The couple had been in business for a number of years and thought it was time for a refresh of their current logo and branding and we were only too happy to assist.
The journey of walking in to the clinic with chronic pain and walking out jumping for joy once they can move again.
Once the Bodyfix logo was approved we set about creating the branding around it using the swooping shapes of the 'X' in the logo to make a border to separate the blocks of colour and images in the marketing materials and stationery. Rob wanted a brand that would work well on its own but could also work across the range of service on offer. The idea to colour code each service area for the fliers required us to put together a colour palette that was bright and eye catching but that also worked as a whole suite The project involved coming up with a when displayed together. Sales
Behind the scenes at Brightsea Print Group Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes here at Brightsea Print Group? We have an amazing team of talented individuals all working together to make sure we deliver high quality print and design on time, within budget and with excellent customer service. Looking after our customers is something Brightsea Print Group value extremely highly and continually strive to monitor and improve. We took the decision to install internal account handlers to further improve our service, communication lines and customer experience. It starts from the initial contact with you, whether that is via email, phone or in person with one of our sales team.
Almost every job starts with our sales team. Johno Smith, Sales and Marketing Director, is usually out on the road meeting with clients new and old to discuss print and design projects. Natasha and Jessica are usually in the office responding to emails and answering the phone, ensuring that someone is always ready to talk to you about your print job; finding out what we can do for you. At Brightsea every client is important to us, no matter how big or small your business, whether you have been printing with us for 10 years or you're placing your first order today.
Digital
Estimating
Once the sales team have discussed your requirements with you they will request a quote from our estimators. We have a diligent team in the estimating department, with more years of combined experience than we'd like to mention; they know all there is to know about print and how to make sure you get the most for your money. They will work out the most cost effective way of printing and finishing your job. Once they have the best price they possibly can, they will email you with a quote which we hope you will be very happy with.
Litho
This level of service continues through to delivery via our own logistics team and on to accounts staff. Every contact going forward will pass through the same customer focus driven management. Our internal account handlers can help you with your project and point out potential pitfalls to ensure quality and deadlines are met. Customers have seen a much improved level of communication, meaning less stress, faster turnaround times and an improvement in customer loyalty with clients coming back to Brightsea Print Group again and again.
We have two main printing processes at Brightsea. Digital print is best suited to short run print, but allows incredibly fast turn around times. Our state-of-the-art digital presses offer a fantastic, professional printing production option with the flexibility of importing personalised data, perfect for a target driven campaign. In some cases we can turn jobs around in 24 hours. Our digital department works hard to ensure you receive a really high quality finished product that looks and feels great.
The alternative to digital is litho print; perfect for longer print-run lengths. Our two Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 presses produce exceptional quality at high speed for those longer runs or bigger sheet sizes, where unit costs can be dramatically reduced. With our five colour press we can add additional spot colours during the same print run to keep costs down, while retaining your brand identity. Our printers are fully trained and check every job, to ensure they are printed to the highest quality possible.
INSIDE BRIGHTSEA
Operations/Production
Design
Pre-Press
When the estimating department get the costs approved by the client, the job is passed over to Operations, headed up by Graeme Nicholls, Operations Director. The job is then booked in on our work flow system, any materials required for the job are ordered, and a job bag is raised. Our Production Director Steve Baker is then notified of print requirements and, most importantly, the delivery deadline. Steve will then book the print job in. At this point, any departments involved in the production of the job are notified to ensure that the deadline is met.
If you require the full service in-house design skills offered by Brightsea Creative you may well have had an initial meeting with a member of the creative team along with the sales department. Once Brightsea Creative receive the job bag, one of their talented designers will set to work preparing artwork for you. Whether it's logo design, exhibition displays or a 48-page brochure, the Creative team can do it all. They will always ensure that the finished product is exactly what you were after.
Finishing
Logistics
After-Sales
Once the print team have printed the final sheets, they are passed on to our Finishing department. This is where your job really takes shape. Folding, stitching, drilling, laminating, die cutting, trimming, packing and shrink wrapping, it all happens in the finishing department. As well as turning flat printed sheets into the final printed products, our finishing department also check every job to make sure each one is perfect. They pack every job by hand to make sure it's ready to be safely dispatched to the client or prepared for mailing.
After the finishing department have packed and labelled each job, they are ready to be delivered. Some clients come to us to pick up their print or marketing materials but usually the job is carefully placed in our Brightsea van and then delivered, with a smile, directly to your door by Keiran or Brian.
With great after-sales service, Brightsea Print Group ensure you, our happy customer, comes back to us completing the loop time and again.
When the artwork is finished by the Creative department and has been approved by the client (or supplied to us as print ready files), it is passed on to our Pre-Press team. They will flightcheck the artwork and set up the file for print in their imposition software. In the case of a litho print job, this involves printing hard copy Epson proofs to be checked and approved by the client. If they have requested to see PDF proofs only, they will be emailed for approval before creating the plates for the litho press.
Hope to hear from you soon!

CHARITIES
On the Slide to Success Brightsea would like to congratulate Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education on a highly successful day's fundraising for a fantastic charity. The organisation run a School and College which provide tailored care to young deaf people aged from 4 to 24.
from a range of ideas that captured what they had in mind. To find out more about the Deaf Academy or to help support a great cause visit www.exeterdeafacademy.ac.uk.
Exeter Street Slide Logo
The Deaf Academy raised funds by installing a giant water slide down Exeter's Fore Street at the beginning of September. Lucky winners from a charity ballot got to take part in the one day event. Here at Brightsea Creative we were delighted to be asked to design a logo for the charity appeal. We worked closely with the Deaf Academy to develop a bespoke illustrated logo
School of Thought We provide a great deal of design and print for many schools and colleges in the South West. This includes concert posters, sports fliers and large scale trailer board advertisements.
accompanying promotional materials. We can produce all artwork for any upcoming school event and both long and short print runs with an impressive turnaround time.
We have worked closely with Taunton School in Somerset and St Peter's School, Exeter for many years. They regularly come to us for updated general, arts and sports diaries at the start of the school year. This involves us laying out the information into a clear, cohesive style. We then print and staple bind the pages into an invaluable A6 booklet for both staff and students and, depending on the topic, we may add a little extra pizazz to the cover!
We have recently designed and printed new prospectuses for both Isca Academy, a secondary school based in Exeter, and The Ridings Federation of Academies in Winterbourne, Bristol.
At Brightsea Creative we enjoy letting our artistic side run free when Taunton School require a new arts, music or drama poster, sometimes with further

Hats off to Hospiscare We love a good challenge here at Brightsea, so when Hospiscare approached us for a giant collection pot in the shape of an upturned hat, we were more than happy to oblige! We designed the "Bring a ÂŁ1 Day" logo for the event which took place on Friday 9th October. Along with various supporting print materials, we provided the 4ft high pink hat for supporters to throw their pounds in.
SCHOOLS
Play Promotion We have a great relationship with Taunton School and were glad to see the return of their inspiring "Play in a Day" workshops this year. The one day fun-filled crash course ending with a live performance for the parents takes place in many different primary schools over several months. We were delighted to provide the design and print of 2015's "Rumble in the Jungle" invitations, workbooks and programmes. Good luck to everyone yet to take part!
CAREERS
New arrivals at Brightsea Print Group! Jackie Snow joins our estimating department. The youngest of twin sisters (only by 5 minutes, but she still uses the term constantly), she has been in the printing trade since she left school many moons ago, and has been involved in all aspects including accounts, data input, finishing and production. After 25 years at her previous employers, she decided to spread her wings and take flight in a new direction – landing safely near Exeter Airport at Brightsea Print Group. She's really enjoying the company, new colleagues (apparently we're all lovely by the way!) and new challenges. Jackie cannot remember the last time she was the ‘new girl’!
Sara Rosengren joins our ever expanding design studio. Sara is originally from Norway and after a few years in London and a recreation period in Indonesia she has settled in Dawlish and fallen in love with the quick access to the sea. Sara holds a Master in visual communication, analysis, research and solution based thinking along with 7+ years experience in the design industry. She is especially interested in the psychological aspect of how people interact with and understand information, which is reflected in her design approach. In her spare time she tries to stay active and enjoys surfing and scuba diving. Sara is also currently training for marathon!
Singing our praises Brightsea were lucky enough to be approached by up and coming classic rock band, Inglorious, to produce a range of printed items that they needed fast. The band were about to embark on a European tour and asked us if we could produce a quality stage banner which would need to withstand a lot of use on the road. We rushed to their aid and supplied them a fully printed Decotex banner which was not only lightweight and strong, but also deflected any stage lighting so that the bands logo was always visible during the show. The band were so impressed by our fast turnaround that they asked us to print their tour flyers and posters which were to be autographed by the band during their VIP meet and greets. Inglorious are now fully branded with other items including T-Shirts, guitar picks, stickers, badges and keyrings. Lead singer Nathan James gave us a personal testimonial "So excited to see the backdrop! The quality is much better than we expected for the price, it's perfect. You guys absolutely ROCK! Thanks so much for all your help." The band have since returned from Europe and are currently touring the UK promoting their new self titled album. We wish them the best of luck and hope they remember if they get to play Wembley Stadium. We would love to print a banner for such a big stage!
Ted Moore also joins the creative team taking us up to 5 full time designers. Ted started working in the print and design industry in 2006 after gaining a BTEC ND in Graphic Design from Petroc where he learned about various printing processes and finishing techniques alongside using his design skills for a range of customers. He entered further education in 2008 and graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design in 2011. Ted was Studio Manager at Maslands Ltd dividing his time between design briefs and pre-press while also running digital print. Design has been his passion since school and he is looking forward to having the opportunity to work with some different customers.
