Calling All Makers | Nova Scotia 2022 School Maker Faire

The Scratch Challenge Showcase welcomed games of all types and examples of using SCRATCH for storytelling. In this entry (left), from Smokey Drive Elementary, Jake & Nic used a "video sensing" extension to make the game more phsically interactive. If you touch the sprite, you get a point. You have to keep the trash (sprite) out of the water at the bottom (SDG#14: Life Below Water). Watch the Scratch Challenge Showcase on the Brilliant Labs YouTube channel.

Mr. Dave Molnar's student working on their Mission Mars Rover.

Mr.Dave Molnar, Coldbrook Elementary School challenged his class to design, engineer and code Robots Got Brilliance! These colourful bots stole hearts as they moved, waved and darted around the room. Other students choose to take the Mission: Mars challenge and designed rovers that where connected to the cloud.brilliantlabs.ca/app/ which allowed them to control and paricipate in the mission challenge from anywhere with an internet connection. This challenge introduces youth to the principles of IoT and engineering concepts similar to the real life NASA rover Perserverance. Learn more about Canadian Space Agency’s role and the four scienctests who are participating in the exploration.

Students created many sustainability projects for the Community Of The Future Innovation Challenge. From robotic planters to solar and wind powered prototypes. Projects reflected clean and renewable energy options for communities. All exhibited how students are thinking about climate change and the United Nations Sustainability Goals for 2030.
