-

This can be interpreted in several ways and would usually be

influenced by building structure, glazing positioning, wall

positioning and, of course, the desires of the customer and

designer.

-

Options include:

-

Regular arrays

-

Lay-on plank systems

-

Tartan grids

how do we offer

ceiling finish

-

Key to success of the ceiling is the finish

-

White ceilings provide a bright uniform appearance and maximise

light.

(these are the most efficient as they offer the highest reflectance)

-

Coloured ceilings can offer a unity with other finishes within

a space.

-

Dark ceilings can provide drama.

-

Mixed coloured ceilings can provide interest and zone placements.

what’s the difference

how do we offer

ceiling finish

-

The perforated pattern also has an influence on the appearance of

a tile. The higher % of perforations on a tile will make the tile look

darker. The dark zones created by perforations can create a pattern

across a ceiling that can become very prominent within a space.

ceiling arrangement

who we are

what do we offer

what’s the difference

how do we offer

acoustic integration

-

The choice for a specific ceiling has a strong influence on the

acoustic properties of a space.

-

The noise level in an area is determined by the source and reflection

of sound on walls, floors and ceilings. Sometimes these reflections

are desired, most likely though, they can be inconvenient because

of the nuisance they create.

-

Two properties should be considered:

-

sound absorption

-

sound attenuation

ceiling arrangement

projects

what do we offer

who we are

what’s the difference

how do we offer

acoustic integration

-

Sound absorption is the ability of a surface to absorb sound and

therefore to minimise sound reflection in a space.

-

Perforated ceiling tiles allow sound waves to pass through the

perforations where they will react with the underlying material.

-

Mineral wool layers, sealed pads or boards can be concealed on

the back of tiles to provide a sound absorption coefficient to

the special requirements.

ceiling arrangement

projects

who we are

what do we offer

what’s the difference

how do we offer

acoustic integration

-

Sound attenuation is required when there is a risk of sound

travelling back through the ceiling membrane. E.g. from one

partitioned office to a neighbouring office or from the floor

above.

-

Once again materials can be concealed on the back of tiles and

vertical attenuators can be installed within the ceiling above

partition walls to control the horizontal movement of sound.

ceiling arrangement

projects

who we are

what do we offer

what’s the difference

how do we offer

Lighting integration

-

Integrated luminaires can blend harmoniously into ceilings and

create a rhythm for the space.

-

The positioning of these will be influenced by the function of the

space and the flexibility required.

-

Attention to detail can ensure that luminaires become part of the

ceiling. A tile can be engineered to be a luminaire in itself with the

same finish and integrated reflectors and optics, to maintain a

unified appearance. Thus avoiding overlapping trims and colour

variations.

ceiling arrangement

projects

who we are

what do we offer

what’s the difference

how do we offer

Lighting integration

-

Lamps can be set high in luminaires so direct lamp glare does not

detract from the visual appearance of a ceiling and the result

becomes more comfortable for the eyes.

ceiling arrangement

projects

who we are

what do we offer

what’s the difference

how do we offer

Lighting integration

-

Where the ceiling solution is required for an office space the

apparent brightness of a ceiling can be controlled by integrating

luminaires which have a limited self luminance at prescribed

angles in order to comply with lighting guidelines.

-

Once again, these luminaires can be perfectly integrated within tiles

and sit flush with the ceiling line so as not to conflict with the space

ceiling arrangement

projects

who we are

what do we offer

what’s the difference

how do we offer

Lighting integration

-

Focal or directional lighting can also be integrated within tiles

to provide lighting solutions that might require a degree of flexibility

as shopts or galleries. Often the ability to integrate these types of

luminaires is overlooked and they get pushed into the plaster

margins.

ceiling arrangement

projects

who we are

to accommodate luminaires in a specific zone.

Lines of light can run parallel to tiles to form a graphic luminance.

The corresponding data are measured with tile size 600/600 and plenumheight of 200mm. The surface of the testroom is 10 m² and contains necessary sub-construction without the integrated techniques

integrated chilling/heating

-

A ceiling tile can act as a self-radiating panel.

-

A system of capillary elements can be concealed on the back of

ceiling tiles that carry water at 29-33 C, for heating purposes, and

15-17 C for cooling purposes.

-

By radiation and some convection, a rooms occupants will be made

to feel comfortable. This method can keep draught and noise levels

to a minimum.

-

The appearance is fully integrated for both perforated and plain

ceiling tiles.

Audio without visual compromise

Kreon audio systems fit invisibly and easily in Kreon ceilings. The speakers are miniaturized high quality audio components based on proprietary digital amplification and sound treatment technology. Each speaker can be set as Left, Right or Mono. Because they have their own amplifier, the speakers can be connected directly to an audio source, such as a smartphone, tablet, CD player, TV, computer, or a home automation system. Subwoofers can be added, if needed.
