ROUND 5: PERTH WILDCATS
POST GAME WRAP
The Brisbane Bullets did a lot right and kept their good form going in a lot of ways in Perth on Friday night, but for the second time in 10 months it was MVP Bryce Cotton that hit the game-winner in devastating fashion. Despite a slow start, the Bullets had worked their way on top impressively by late in the third quarter. Stephen Holt nailed three triples on his own for the period and they led the Wildcats 61-54 when he nailed the third of those from long-range. Big shots early in the fourth period from Lamar Patterson and Jason Cadee saw Brisbane reclaim the lead a couple of times, but they did have their work cut out down eight with five minutes left. But the Bullets wouldn’t be denied and a tough move inside from the league’s most experienced NBL player, Mika Vukona, saw scores all tied up with 6.6 seconds remaining. That did give time for Cotton, though, and he nailed the three to win the game as the buzzer sounded to give him 37 points on
the night and for him to break the hearts of the Bullets once more. He hit the game-winner in Brisbane as well in January last season. Patterson showed plenty of encouraging signs for Brisbane in his second NBL game with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists in 20 minutes of court time. Matt Hodgson did some good work inside for 13 points and five rebounds while Stephen Holt had 11 points, going 3/5 from downtown. Cameron Bairstow added 11 points and six rebounds, Reuben Te Rangi 11 points and three boards, and Cam Gliddon nine points and three rebounds. Cadee had another solid outing for the Bullets too with 11 points, two rebounds and two assists including hitting two threes on the night. While the Cotton buzzer-beater hurt, Cadee simply felt the game should have never come down to that. “I just don’t think we should have been in that position. We let ourselves down from the
start by giving them points to start the game,” Cadee said. “It wasn’t as though they did anything special, but we turned the ball over and we just gave them easy points which you can’t do in Perth. And then Bryce hits the tough shot to win the game, but I just don’t think it should have come to that point.” The Bullets arrived in Perth on the back of a two-game winning run and having won three of their past four matches to be building some good momentum on the season. The start to the game was far from ideal with Perth coming out inspired to continue their unbeaten home record going this season despite being without starters Damian Martin and Terrico White. The Wildcats were up 22-7 after six minutes but the Bullets did well to steady starting with a Bairstow andone and finishing with a Hodgson alley-oop off the pass from Gibson. Cadee finished the first quarter with a three-point play to keep the Bullets within four and then
ROUND 5: PERTH WILDCATS
POST GAME WRAP Cadee finished the first quarter with a three-point play to keep the Bullets within four and then another 6-0 run late in the first half kept Brisbane close, including another alley-oop for Hodgson this time on the pass from Te Rangi. Patterson finished the first half with five quick points for Brisbane to be within a point at half-time. Gliddon made his first field goal of the game to open the second half and put Brisbane in front with the lead growing to six when he hit another soon after. That’s when Holt caught fire and knocked down three triples in the space of four minutes for Brisbane to lead by seven with 50 seconds left in the third quarter. Five quick Cotton points for Perth ensured that margin was quickly back to two setting up
a dramatic final quarter. Perth’s lead had ballooned to eight with five minutes left in the game, but two threes in just over a minute for Te Rangi brought Brisbane back close. It was then a two-point game with a Vukona bucket and all square with a tough finish inside from Patterson. Jesse Wagstaff hit a three for Perth but Bairstow responded inside for Brisbane to cut Perth’s lead to one. It was out to two with a Wagstaff free-throw with 22 seconds remaining but Vukona’s work inside was impressive to tie scores up. But it wasn’t to be for Brisbane with the game-winner from Cotton. The Bullets don’t have long to stew over it heading back home to take on the New Zealand Breakers at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Sunday.
That’s a Breakers team coming off a big home win on Friday over the Cairns Taipans and Cadee “That’s been our schedule. I’d prefer to have some games to start off with, it feels like very game we’ve had we have had to come back from a road trip but we have to turnaround and go back and play on Sunday,” Cadee said. “There’s no easy games and we focus on New Zealand from now on and forget this game as hard as it is to do. We’ll look back on the Perth game on Monday morning after we are done with the New Zealand game.” NBL ROUND 5 BRISBANE BULLETS 87 (Patterson 13, Hodgson 13) PERTH WILDCATS 90 (Cotton 37, Norton 15, Kay 12)

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A PERFORMER? I’ve always had a passion for dancing and performing and it has been an important part of my life since a young age. I have performed at many competitions and even travelled to Los Angeles and New York to perform and take class! I love how I can express myself through dance with whatever I’m feeling and tell a story through my movements and emotions. It is the most amazing feeling performing on stage in front of an audience. Performing allows me to forget about everything and just be in the moment. I am currently studying a Cert IV in dance at Dynamite Studios Academy where I am improving my skills everyday.
WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION? My biggest inspiration in the dance industry is Marko Panzic who has had an incredible journey and career in dance which I look up to. He has been on So You Think You Can Dance and worked with famous artists including Kylie Minogue, Jason Derulo, Ricky Martin, Jessica Mauboy and many more. He is a renowned choreographer who founded The Dream Dance Company which is an amazing show that includes various dancers and is something i’d love to be apart of one day. Although in life, my inspiration is my mum who has always been there supporting me and helping me be the best person and dancer I can. I am so grateful she is apart of my life and cannot thank her enough for everything she has done for me.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE DANCE EXPERIENCE SO FAR? My favourite dance experience so far has been performing at Disneyland, California at age 12 and I have been training very hard since this to achieve my dream of dancing on cruise ships. I have had many other amazing experiences including LOcREaDO dance program, Australian Dance Festival and travelling overseas to take class from well-known choreographers.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A SILVER BULLET? Since I have only ever trained for dance competitions, becoming a Silver Bullet has been a very different experience for me and a chance to dance and perform with an amazing team of industry professionals. They are more than just cheerleaders, they are an incredible family!
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SEASON? I am looking forward to experiencing my first basketball season supporting and cheering the Brisbane Bullets to victory! I am so excited to make so many new friends and meet many new people whilst dancing and doing what I love! We have an amazing team and looking forward to having the best time being a HIT105 Silver Bullets Cheerleader
