Christmas Giving — Volunteering and Charity Ideas
One of the best things about Christmas is the spirit of giving, and it’s a great opportunity to teach our Brisbane Kids about giving to those people in our community who might be less fortunate or having a tough Christmas this year. Here are some ideas for charities you can support as a family.
BRISBANE BASKET BRIGADE
The Basket Brigade runs an annual campaign to provide food and gifts for people that need a hand — children, the elderly, hungry and homeless — during the Christmas season each year. Their 2020 packing weekend is the 11th to 13th of December but you must register. Find out more at www.brisbanebasketbrigade.com
KMART WISHING TREE APPEAL
The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal is Australia’s largest and longest-running Christmas gift appeal. With your gifts in tow, visit your local Kmart store and take a tag from the Wishing Tree, or this year you can contribute online. All gifts are collected by The Salvation Army. Gifts do not need to be purchased at Kmart, nor do they need to be wrapped. Find out more www.kmart.com.au/kmartwishingtree
THE SALVATION ARMY 100,000 MEALS
A $10 donation will provide a meal for someone in need this Christmas, or get in touch to find out where you can help out this year. Find out more at www.100thousandmeals.org.au
You might also like to consider giving something to brighten the Christmas of your local frontline workers — ambulance, fire and police officers, hospital staff and others — who are all particularly busy at this time of year and many of whom have faced an especially challenging year.
