ome people live such exciting lives. But as the people featured in this week’s edition show, it’s not always smooth sailing to that enviable lifestyle. Libby Babet, the new trainer on Channel 10’s The Biggest Loser: Transformation (P8), tells Kristy Symonds how she’s now enjoying a successful career in fitness, but only after experiencing hard times of illness and self doubt. And Brentley Frazer (P5) grew up in a “Christian cult”, embarked on a wild young-adulthood before living the dream of any wordsmith yearning to be published. Samantha Strauss’s childhood plans were shattered before she found her new creative outlet (P23), and Vlada Edirippulige (P26) says it was only after she realised “she wasn’t good at anything” that she started her own business, Junky Comics. Vlada’s 25 years old. The other exciting aspect this week’s stories share is that they are so fun to read. Enjoy!

Brentley Frazer 45 • writer

As a teenager, Brentley Frazer knew that someday he wanted to write a memoir. But he was born into a “Christian cult” in outback Queensland, and growing up in the sleepy town did not offer enough natural literary fuel. So he changed that. “I grew up in this little town (Greenvale, in North Queensland) where nothing ever happened. I was heavily into reading Mark Twain; I was really envious of Huckleberry Finn. I wanted my own adventures so one night I snuck out … ran away and built a raft,” he says. In his new guise as a rebellious Townsville teen, he hung out with a graffiti gang and dabbled with drugs. As a young adult, he continued on that path. He moved to Brisbane in the early 1990s and was drawn to the inner-city poetry, bohemian and music scene, where he attended his share of wild parties. “If I felt the adventures were good, I wrote them down,’’ he says. “When I was 18 years old I knew I had to stop doing stupid things because I would either be in prison or dead. I once heard that if you want to have a really interesting life, you have to live your life as if you were being followed around by a film crew.’’ Now, finally, Brentley’s ambition of more than 20 years has come to fruition with this month’s publication of Scoundrel Days: A Memoir. Brentley will speak about Scoundrel Days at A Rock & Roll Writers Festival at The Old Museum at Bowen Hills on April 1. Much of his colourful life revolves around music. “When I was living in the Valley and writing bits of I wanted my my memoir, I remember the old Target building on own adventures Brunswick Street Mall and the band rehearsal room so one night I where Powderfinger and Regurgitator would play.” snuck out ... Brentley, of Paddington, says he decided to write a ran away and memoir in high school and has spent the past 20 years built a raft lugging around manuscripts. The Griffith University creative writing lecturer wrote Scoundrel Days as part of his PhD project. “I decided to be a writer when I was 13 and my teacher told me I could be a writer. He would get me to read out my stories to the class.” Brisbane is Brentley’s Mecca, and he was immediately smitten when he visited for the first time, aged 13. “Brisbane is the hub of the book. Brisbane was the big smoke – there were art galleries and live music. Brisbane seemed so much more alive to me. It was a big city compared with Townsville, which seemed more like an army base.” He settled down 19 years ago when he fell in love with Sunshine, who is now his wife. The couple have two children: Jack, 4, and Vivienne, 1. He is now planning a western historical novel set in north Queensland. “Let’s hope this book finds some readers so I’m asked to write another one.” Fiona Purdon Scoundrel Days: A Memoir, Brentley Frazer, UQP, $29.95. Brentley will speak at A Rock & Roll Writers Festival at The Old Museum, Gregory Tce, Bowen Hills, Apr 1-2. rockandrollwritersfestival.com

Sophie and I are best friends. We’ve only known each other for a year-and-a-half, but people who we’ve just met think we’ve known each other for years and years. We live together, we work closely together – we do almost everything together. We are complete opposites – I’m quite an introvert and Soph’s very much an extrovert. I think we bring the best out of each other in that respect. We are very complementary. I was born in Birmingham in the UK and moved to Brisbane when I was 18. I’m a graduate lawyer – I was only qualified in December. I’m now in the office every day, around women in a corporate space. Every single day I need a corporate wardrobe, which is why Sophie and I started Two Corporate Girls. We were both trying to find inspiration online to dress for our new positions. We couldn’t find the one page on Instagram that gave us ideas – affordable ideas. That’s when we decided to start something that not only would give us inspiration, but also inspire other people in our position. It started by buying a camera off my mother and then snapping and posting photos – it’s crazy. We set it up a year ago and we have 43,000 followers (instagram.com/twocorporategirls). It has become much bigger than we planned.
I’m in commercial property valuations and I wear corporate every day. I see women at work who look gorgeous every day, but I know for a fact that they spend a fortune on their outfit, and I’m not there yet, and neither is Beckie. We thought Two Corporate Girls would target girls just like us. People like that we come across as normal human beings who aren’t trying to sell them anything – we’re simply there for inspiration. I’ve wanted to be in fashion my whole life – I want to work in fashion one day, so I absolutely love what we’re doing. We get to dress up and take pictures, and I’ve been doing that ever since I was little. Now people want to see it, so that’s awesome. We have to make our page work within our friendship because we are so different, but our core values are on par with one another. The way we were raised, even our mothers, are so similar. We try and influence each other positively every day – made easier by the fact that we live together. We met through mutual friends. We were out one night and bumped into one another and got along so well. We even said to each other, “We’re going to be really good friends”, and we were right, because we’re inseparable.

L Fit for life PhotographS • Justin Lloyd, Claudia Baxter, Kristi Miller
Libby Babet is living proof that fitness, both mental and physical, can help overcome life’s challenges. Kristy Symonds reports
ibby Babet is a bright, bubbly ball of energy. Posing for pictures on a fitball for Brisbane News, The Biggest Loser’s newest guru embodies all things health and fitness – the very traits necessary to motivate sometimes unwilling clients. But the 35-year-old trainer wasn’t always such a force of nature. Difficult as it may be to believe while watching her on Channel 10’s The Biggest Loser: Transformed, Brisbaneraised Libby wasn’t athletic or socially confident as a child. “I just felt very isolated as a kid,” she says. In fact, growing up, the now Sydney-based businesswoman was “painfully shy” and, on one occasion, was assaulted by children from a neighbouring school on her way home. She was 12 at the time and when she arrived home bruised and mentally battered, her parents, whom she dubs “Pedro the Swift and Franny the Brave”, decided enough was enough. “The kids on the way home had been kind of knocking me around and mum and dad were like, ‘You’ve got to do something. You’re horribly shy and it’s actually affecting your life now’,” she says. They encouraged Libby, who has two sisters, to choose something to dedicate herself to and to find her crew. “Mum is very much the shaker, like, ‘Come on, let’s do something; come on, let’s try and why not? What have you got to lose?’ She gives you the push and dad then flies in to support and says, ‘OK, how do we take action on this?’. “He was really sporty and he said, ‘Why don’t you get fit and try to get into some sports teams?’ I thought ‘no’ but he was just like, ‘I’m taking it on board; we’re doing it’.” Every day for two months over the ensuing school holidays, Libby and her dad were up at dawn, going for a run, building her sporting skills and training.

“It was just this summer project,” she says. “I didn’t realise what I had created.” When Libby returned to school the next year, she competed in the sports carnival and took out the trophy. Then she started competing in touch football, which earned her a scholarship to All Hallows School in Fortitude Valley, and she went on to coach a string of sports. “It was really powerful and whenever I felt lonely, I had these sports teams to attach myself to. It was a sense of belonging. My parents were really the inspiration for me wanting to give that gift back to others.” It was the first time fitness had impacted Libby’s life in such a positive way, but it wouldn’t be the last. After studying journalism at the Queensland University of Technology and working for a newspaper on the Sunshine Coast, she moved to the UK, but a diagnosis of malignant hypertension – extremely high blood pressure – forced her to return to Australia, where she settled in Sydney and worked in magazines. “I got really sick and they put me on stroke watch,” she says. “I was having hot flushes and headaches, and going to have to be on medication forever.” Her passion for fitness kicked back in and she began to think more about nutrition and psychological well-being. “I melded it all together and changed my own future. I haven’t had high blood pressure in years or medication for it. But that’s not to say I don’t believe in medication very strongly – I do.” After that, Libby founded her first business, BUF (which stands for Beautiful, Unstoppable, Fearless) Girls, Australia’s first “entertrainment” group. “I feel very deeply that I was honestly put on this earth to make people just a little bit happier and a little bit more confident in what they have power over. “I think the word empowered to me means to help people to step into their power – it’s a hand-up, not a hand-out.”
I wanted to get involved with this because I wanted to
impact the regular person ON THE BALL … Libby Babet loves to actively motivate others; and (right) with her fellow trainer on The Biggest Loser, Shannan Ponton.
But Libby, a self-professed “massive nerd”, bookworm and writer, says she is still that shy girl at heart. “I’m not necessarily an extrovert who gains energy from going to parties and being social. “I still feel I am that introvert but a bit of a gregarious one. I regenerate with quiet time and that’s what allows me to be everything I need to be for everyone else.” She says becoming part of Channel 10’s fitness and makeover show is a welcome way to amplify her ability to help people. “I see a really big difference between vision and goals. For me, my vision is a beacon or true north that just is there and is guiding me, and goals are steps or things that come up along the way to help me move towards that. “So if one falls away it’s no problem because it’s like, ‘OK, that wasn’t the right step – next
one’, but The Biggest Loser is a step that overarches everything I had done. One of the big reasons I wanted to get involved with this is because I wanted to impact the regular person.” Libby says the revamped, more holistic version of the franchise was a better fit for her than the previous format. “The brand is iconic and has changed so many people’s lives and it’s not that there’s anything wrong with it – I think it’s fricking great. But for me, I thought there were missing elements.” For Libby, the psychological element that has always been so beneficial to her is crucial. “To stand there and yell at someone to do 30 burpees is easy, but to make them wake up and go, ‘I want to move today’ – that’s not easy. I can’t tell you how many people
whose lives I’ve changed – not by giving them excellent training but by giving them a whole lot of belief and love.” She says people are much more than just their before and after photos. “(The goal is) to change the way someone thinks and feels about exercise, to take them from the place of ‘I should do this, I have to do this and I’m begrudging it’ to ‘I want to, it’s my own time; it’s my meditation’.” THE BIGGEST LOSER: TRANSFORMED …

This was a poor example for the boys (the umpire’s decision is final) but I choose my battles. Some parents won’t let their kids play cricket because it takes so long but I say give yourself over to it. There’s something lovely about a long summer morning watching cricket. It has its ups and downs, though. I refer to it as “the agony and the ecstasy”. The agony concerns those days of waiting all morning for your boy to bat, only to watch
him get out first ball. Then there are those times when the runs come freely, wickets are taken and all is right with the world. I will have forever in my mind’s eye a six my son hit when he was quite small. I can still see that ball sailing into the air and over the boundary. And there was the day he got a hat-trick. That was something else – the celebrations out in the middle, the look on my wife’s face, me puffing up with pride as if I’d taken it. I’m going to miss all that.

Edgy country The autumn edition of Ruth magazine , a fundraising vehicle for the Queensland Country Women’s Association , was unveiled at a launch party at West End’s Avid Reader book store last week. Editor Ally Martell said the issue’s cover shot – of a model dressed in edgy fashion label Dogstar – was a breakaway from QCWA stereotypes. “Young members are the future of the QCWA and they bring wonderful energy into the organisation,” she said. POINT FORM Needles work to rejuvenate tired skin
M
y Uber driver was very concerned. He was worried he was complicit in an act of torture, delivering me to a place where I would have thousands of little holes punched into my face. “The things we do for beauty,” I reassured him. And a month after having a Dermapen treatment, I can assure that driver that it was far from torture and totally worth it. A Dermapen is a microneedling device, in this case applied to my face by Leona Gallagher at Simply Laser, in the Queen St Mall. The treatment ($295) first involves the application of an anaesthetic cream. Then a pen-like device fitted with small needles is passed over the face. The needles go a few millimetres into the skin, creating “micro-point channels”. “This is perceived by the body as damage, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin,” the Dermapen makers say. “Your skin reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process.” Leona says the process could reduce fine lines and acne scars. Some areas of my face would respond better to treatment than others, she said, however, the deep indentation between my eyebrows would need a filler to fix.
16
I was scared when Leona wiped off the numbing cream. Would it hurt? At first, I couldn’t feel a thing – just a small buzzing sensation – but when the pen was applied to the thinner skin on my forehead, it did hurt – a mild sting like a small needle penetrating the skin. Bearable. Leona finished by applying a soothing serum to reduce redness and reminded me to keep make-up to a minimum for the next few days. I was also told to keep topping up with serum for the next week, to help promote healing. The next day, my skin was a little red but back to near-normal. By the third day, the redness had reduced markedly and was gone by the fourth day. A month on, and Leona is right – the texture of my skin is much better. My pores are significantly less noticeable and my base makeup glides on more easily. The best part, however, is the absence of fine lines around my eyes. The crease in my forehead is softer and looks shallower, but Leona is right – major work would be needed to fix that chasm. Would I recommend the treatment? I plan to do it again. I just might avoid Uber next time. SIMPLY LASER, 1/245 Albert St, city, ph: 3211 4785.

his dish is pretty hipster. Curing, fermentation and the use of seaweed are all very on fleek. With that said, these methods and the ingredients used are all time-honoured in the kitchen. They also take time, so be prepared. Curing, long used as a means of preservation, is used today for the fantastic flavour it imbues. The fermented cucumber relish is funky and delicious, and has the added fillip of being good for our gut health. The seaweed, as well as lending a sense of context to the trout, gives umami, a powerhouse of savouriness. Enjoy with a glass of kombucha.

TROUT: Mix salt, sugar and half the seaweed together and cover the ocean trout with the cure. Wrap loosely with cling film and chill for 12 hours. The next day, wash off cure, pat dry, then roll fish in remaining seaweed. Wrap tightly in cling wrap to help the seaweed stick and chill for a further 12 hours. CUCUMBER RELISH: Place cucumber, chilli, shallots and mustard seeds in a bowl and toss to combine. Stand at room temperature for 30 mins. Add salt and scrunch it in to extract the juices. Leave in a cool, dark place for 48 hours, by which time it should start to bubble. Add vinegar and sugar, stir until dissolved, then refrigerate. When ready to serve, drain and stir in fennel. OYSTER MAYO: Place mayo and oysters in a small blender along with any oyster juices and whizz until smooth. To serve: cut trout thinly and accompany with relish and mayonnaise, and a sprig of bronze fennel, if desired. Serves 4. Alastair mcleod is the chef-owner of Al’FreshCo. alfreshco.com.au

MISOHAPI SUSHI AND RAMEN BAR

here’s a primal urge lurking somewhere inside me that triggers at the sight of a yum-cha trolley. I become a Neanderthal, grabbing at everything within reach, gorging way beyond satiation. The same thing happens if I’m parked next to a sushi train, but I’m a tamer berserker. The two work on the same principle of dangling something within easy reach of hungry diners and letting greed complete the deal. I found myself grabbing almost willy-nilly from the MisoHapi conveyer – I was hungry and my mate was hungrier. There’s not a great deal to the place: a kitchen to the rear, the sushi train and booth seating down the middle, a couple of fridges and a counter near the front. But it is really brightly kitted out, and the service is chirpy and effervescent. If the train idea doesn’t quite grab you, there’s a comprehensive menu that peaks with a series of ramen but spends most of its energy on nigiri, rolls and sashimi, plus some sets. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Drinks aren’t heavily advertised, but there are soft drinks, a small collection of Japanese beers, saké and a few wines. Without the train and its array of plates, I’d be more inclined to peruse the menu and try some of the more interesting dishes – takoyaki, unagi nigiri, perhaps an udon – but made do with the likes of tempura prawn nigiri ($4), salmon and avocado nigiri ($4.50), and a spicy chicken and avocado roll ($4.50), washed down with Yebisu. The MisoHapi seafood tasted fresh and sweet, nothing seemed fridge-stale or gave an inkling it had been circling for too long, despite the fact that it was a not terribly busy Tuesday lunch and the belt was laden. In the end, though, the sushi was incidental. I was there for ramen – the king of noodle soups. MisoHapi offers four broths – tonkotsu (made from pork bones, inset), miso (fermented bean paste), shio (salt) and soy – topped with pork belly, shallots and seaweed, or a vegetarian version with tofu, each $14.90. Things like egg and tofu croquettes are extras. The beauty of good ramen lies in the broth. Different styles vary in richness, colour and texture, but they should all combine the almost oxymoronic qualities of intensity and lightness. Brisbane has a couple of terrific ramen specialists. MisoHapi makes a tasty, passable version, but it doesn’t reach the dizzy heights of the best in town. Regardless, it’s a fast, fun place to dine, and if you aren’t looking for a soul-moving ramen experience, it’s a good place to placate your primal urge.

much as the landscape itself. He says he constantly finds himself searching for the footprints of the people who came before him – be they indigenous, early colonials, whalers or others. This makes his work a multi-layered contemplation of the impact of invasion and colonisation and he also examines the damage to the natural and social worlds of the NSW south coast. He’s like a novelist building a narrative from fragments and in that fictional narrative he discovers truths that sometimes elude historians. But there is a whimsy in his work as well as seriousness and if you know your Seinfeld you will recognise a not-so-veiled reference to that TV show, to which, he confesses, he is addicted. One of the works is a seascape entitled The Sea Was Angry That Day, My Friends. That’s from a classic episode in which George Costanza masquerades as a marine biologist with surprising and, of course, disastrous results. Paul laughs when I say that was the first thing I noticed, the Seinfeld title of one of his paintings. But beyond the comedy and the satire he is asking serious questions. “I mean here are these guys who look civilised but who were the civilised ones, really, them or the indigenous people who had established a civilisation here over thousands of years?” A fair question. There’s nothing wrong with Emma Watson’s pipes. One might argue, however, that her professional judgment is a tad off-key. Committing to Disney’s live-action version of Beauty and the Beast as her first blockbuster lead post-Harry Potter raises questions (especially since Watson chose it over Emma Stone’s Oscar-winning role in La La Land). This rather antiseptic adaptation of the 18th century fairy tale about a kind young woman who falls in love with the monstrous prince who kidnaps her is a curious choice for an actor who has made headlines for her feminist activism. A version of Beauty and the Beast that explores Belle’s Stockholm syndrome tendencies might have been worth exploring. But Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) sticks closely to the much-loved 1991 animated fantasy’s conservative roots. Belle is ostracised in the village where she lives with her father Maurice (Kevin Kline) because she reads books. Puh-lease (although to be fair, most of the locals appear to be illiterate). Much has been made of Josh Gad’s outrageously camp LeFou, the snivelling sidekick to the dastardly Gaston (Luke Evans). But if Disney’s first LGBTI character was going to be a spineless sycophant, the filmmakers would have been better to leave well enough alone. The disappointment of Dan Stevens’ flesh-and-blood Prince, on the other hand, is probably endemic to the story – no human actor could match the computer-generated Beast with five minutes of screen time. Criticism of Disney’s animation is tantamount to blasphemy (for a “live action” film, Beauty and the Beast has an awful lot of CGI), but for this viewer, some of the imagery simply doesn’t cut it. The eyes on Emma Thompson’s teapot, for instance, feel crude and artificial. And the veteran British actor’s vocal performance fails to transcend the stiffness of her animated vehicle. Ewan McGregor’s candelabra Lumiere is a little more flexible. Watson fulfils her role as a classic Disney musical lead more than adequately – she’s the best thing about the film. But the filmmakers have nothing – apart from advances in digital technology – to add to what is a very familiar story. Twenty-five years after its first, ground-breaking Disney outing, in the wake of gender-redefining female leads in animated Disney triumphs such as Moana and Frozen, Beauty and the Beast feels almost like a throwback.
Sometimes the remedy can be worse than the disease. Director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) takes this adage and runs with it in his latest, feverishly inventive blockbuster. The rich “patients” at the Swiss Alps sanatorium where A Cure for Wellness is set are suffering from some kind of mysterious 21st century malaise. But the instruments Jason Isaacs’ extravagantly accented doctor, Heinrich Volmer, uses to treat them were conceived at the turn of the 20th century. The film begins with the death of a Wall Street broker who suffers a seizure after opening a letter. An ambitious junior executive named Lockhart (Dane DeHaan) is sent to the sanatorium in his place to retrieve the firm’s CEO. When he arrives, however, Lockhart quickly realises that something is not right. The CEO Pembroke proves to be an elusive quarry. And Lockhart, haunted by visions of a mysterious young woman (Mia Goth), finds it increasingly difficult to separate reality from delusion. After unexpected events stop him from leaving, Lockhart notices that no one in this exclusive spa is getting better. One criticism you can’t level at A Cure for Wellness is a lack of imagination – but clocking in at almost two-anda-half hours, the film is overly long for its gothic B-movie aspirations. And the story has more holes than a motheaten woolly jumper. Verbinski’s atmosphere-building skills, however, are exemplary. Audiences will be on the edge of their seats right up until the preposterous end.

What’s new with you?
I have a day off – that’s pretty new. Junky’s been running for almost two years. I just finished one of our most successful events ever, our Buffy launch. Pretty much all the art sold from it, which never happens. The art will be up (on show) for the rest of the month. About two months ago I ran into quite a pickle. If I didn’t act immediately the shop was going to close. A GoFundMe campaign was the last thing I wanted to do, but I spoke to a few people and they said, “People would rather donate than have you shut”. And afterwards people were so supportive and so wonderful. I’ve got to keep the shop open for them.
who won’t take anything less than being at the front. That’s another reason I wanted to open the shop, because there’s so much good stuff out there by women. What’s your greatest achievement?
I was really proud when I started up a women’s comic book club. What do you love about Brisbane?
The community, the people. Everyone in Brisbane collaborates and does stuff together which is really nice. It’s an easy place to live and a great place to start a business because the rent’s cheaper (than in other cities). But it’s really accessible for people to find each other.

What was your “a-ha” moment?
I think it was when I realised that I wasn’t good at anything. I finished uni and I was working in hospo (hospitality). My friends and I would share books. Shipping from the US was so expensive, so we said, “We should get shipments together”. Then I was like, wait a minute – if I start an online store I can get books for wholesale price. It was kind of a selfish venture to get books for myself and my friends, and it turned into an online store that was legit. OK, it’s a business now – whoops. It was like a joke that went too far. Then I said, maybe I’ll open up a shop. Who or what inspires you?
Badass, strong women. Like Buffy. Like my mum. Like (American cartoonist) Alison Bechdel. Amazing writers and artists. Women
What’s your greatest extravagance?
Bad TV. Like Real Housewives. Like The Kardashians. I love it so much. And also stuff like The OC. I finished Gossip Girl for the second time in a row. What’s next for you?
I don’t really know. I’m going to try to stay afloat for as long as I can. I want to put on more art shows and things like that. I’m thinking of turning the back of the shop into a rotating pop-up shop, with clothes, jewellery and crafty stuff. If I get people excited about what’s happening in the shop, it’s a good way to keep them coming into it. Sally Browne Junky Comics, 93 Vulture St, West End

entry,” Bill says. “From the street you can see the flue but you also experience it from the old house, the bathroom and the kitchen. It continues that tradition of a brick fireplace or furnace located on the back of the house.” Contrasting materials – old timber weatherboards and flooring versus new spaces forged in masonry and concrete – make the distinction between the traditional and contemporary. “We talked a lot about how we might achieve the sense of the room feeling outdoors,” Bill says. “(Brick) is typically reserved for outdoors. It feels neither in nor out, and yet it can be both.” Brick floors and brick seating plinths also define a second gathering space, extending from the kitchen to the back. “The internal brick courtyards have multiple uses: entertaining, a place to stretch out and read while still feeling like you’re outside, and on special occasions, a dance floor!” Jen says.

“We use the bar area in the kitchen as both a drinks and a food-preparation area. It’s both beautiful and functional. “Entertaining is something we did very seldom before the renovation due to the restrictive layout of the previous build. We now have multiple spaces to entertain in.” Post-renovation, the unconventional and inviting spaces are a source of joy for Ben, Jen and their fur babies, French bulldogs Alphonse and Rosalina. “Returning home after work or a weekend away is a delight,” Jen says. “Seeing the sky lighten while we prepare breakfast or the moon against the chimney while we prepare dinner is a special treat.” ARCHITECT • Myers Ellyett, ph: 0433 890 663. While others are happy to party this week, you seem more content to raise the drawbridge on that castle you call home. This doesn’t mean being alone. Enjoy time with favourite friends and family – a surprise or two is likely.

Savvy Taureans know the value of making a good impression. But life has a habit of making you live up to all the responsibilities you’ve taken on. It’s no surprise if you end up in overload. Don’t promise more than you can deliver.
This week, an important life cycle comes to an end. With daily routine disrupted, prepare for the unexpected. Try to stay flexible, though, because if you choose to stay stuck in a rut, frustrating times lie ahead. Rid yourself of bad habits.
Slow down, Cancer. Take a break and give yourself a rest. If a reconciliation is necessary, try to forgive and forget. In return, something daunting turns into a simple exercise – thanks to the generosity of a colleague or friend.
Love sidles closer this week, and it’s unlikely to be a tame entanglement. What’s more, the attraction should be mutual. The professional pace? Equally passionate. Fortunately, few can handle creative challenges better than you.
A situation isn’t as exciting as it used to be. This is disappointing, as your heart is connected to those involved. But don’t cut ties yet. Explore new territory or options, and the answer will become obvious in good time.
So much to do and so little time. Ambition is your driving force, but not everything is worth doing. Decide what you want before making a long-term commitment. Love has been fraught recently, but you finally get a break.
At work, new ideas blaze a fiery trail. At home, your love life is set for a breakthrough. Financially, too, it’s all systems go. This week many Scorpios have renewed satisfaction. The time’s right to trade dreams for reality.
It’s mostly an untroubled week. As usual, you captivate friends and colleagues with your cheeky sense of fun. Mid-week, life turns a tad more serious, especially if you’re offered a new job or training course. All this and more cash, too.
Don’t be too proud to ask for help. If asked, friends will go out of their way to offer support. Over the years, others have truly appreciated your generosity, so give them a chance to repay your good deeds. You’re much loved.
Enjoyment features strongly this week, as does your social life. Ditto for romance. If you’re thinking of spending money, it could turn out to be an expensive few days. Hide PIN numbers, or prepare for a monetary meltdown.
Don’t waste energy dwelling on the past. Break down any emotional barriers between yourself and loved ones. Show affection and you’ll receive double. At work, don’t let opportunities pass you by.
