HELLO
Over the past few weeks, the Brisbane News team has put in the hard yards trying out some of the best beauty treatments this city has to offer. Have we mentioned lately how much we love our jobs? On P14 you will find the fruit of our labours: reviews of some of the most heavenly massages and facials offered by local day spas, including a nine-step facial – offered at Newstead’s Archon Day Spa – which finishes with a 24kt gold mask. Talk about bling. When writer Belinda Seeney returned pinkcheeked and glowing from her lunchtime “assignment” we were all envious, to put it mildly. Of course, we had to run it on the cover. We hope the story offers you plenty of inspiration for Mother’s Day gift ideas, or simply an excuse to pamper yourself. This week we also bring you cuddly homewares (P30) to beat the chill, comfort food in the form of Julie Goodwin’s salmon quiche recipe (P31) and, on the travel front, a tour of Toowoomba’s head-turning street art (P24). Enjoy.
THEN & NOW 1889: One of Brisbane’s favourite watering holes, the Breakfast Creek Hotel, pictured (above) in the early 1900s and (left) this year, turns 128 this month. The landmark was built by former lord mayor William MacNaughton Galloway. It introduced many “firsts” to the city, including beer garden-style dining in the late ‘40s, and a drivethrough bottle shop in the ‘60s. Birthday celebrations start with a Mother’s Day party on May 14. breakfastcreekhotel.com

THE CHAT
The brighter side ANNA DANIELS, 36 Author
Picture: Lyndon Mechielsen
The fact that seemingly dire situations can have surprisingly happy endings was a lesson Anna Daniels learnt early in her career. In 2004, as a junior ABC rural reporter, Anna knew she could not air her nerve-racked and error-ridden 40 minute-interview with superstar Russell Crowe. Then, in a stroke of genius, she edited the interview and turned the calamity into comic relief. “It turned out to be hilarious and funny and won the ABC Comedy Segment of the Year award,’’ Anna says. “It shows you can turn around a potentially disastrous situation and turn it into a positive.’’ Brisbane-based Anna has also been a presenter and producer on Channel Ten’s The Project. Now she is celebrating a new happy ending: the publication of her debut novel, Girl in Between. The lesson in adaptation courtesy of Russell Crowe came into good use when the manuscript was selected as a finalist for the 2016 Vogel’s Literary Award. Instead of being downhearted about missing out on the top prize, she made the most of the opportunity. Publishers told her that if she could
turn her 38,000-word manuscript into an 80,000-word novel it would be considered for publication. It took Anna a year to the day for the manuscript to be written and published. She tapped away to produce the extra 42,000 words “while holed up in my Paddington unit”. The novel is about Lucy Crighton, who returns home to live with her larger-than-life parents, Brian and Denise, after recently turning her back on a high-flying TV career. Lucy feels like she is a girl in between relationships, careers and cities but she can always rely on her best friend Rosie for some crazy, fun nights out. “The humour is very Aussie and very Queensland. I’ve always had a cheeky nature. I wanted to make sure there was a human element and it was not just slapstick,” Anna says. “I also wanted to be a bit reflective to help bridge the city-country divide. When I was writing it, I was reading the dialogue out loud to myself to make sure it felt authentic and the characters felt real and relatable.” The lesson from this experience? Just enjoy it. “I’m always looking at what I’m going to do next ... but this time I’m going to stop and soak it up because this is really an achievement.” ANNA DANIELS, Girl in Between, Allen & Unwin, $30.

LIFE
Phil Brown There are certain things I am not allowed to play around the house or in the car I’m constantly revisiting the back catalogue of the soundtrack of my life. Recently that led me to download a couple of songs by Cream. I’ve been thinking about Cream recently because there’s a concert soon at QPAC (it’s on May 29) entitled The Music of Cream featuring Malcolm Bruce (son of the late Cream frontman, Jack Bruce), Kofi Baker (son of drummer Ginger Baker) Will Johns (nephew of Eric Clapton), Deep Purple legend Glenn Hughes and guitar virtuoso Robben Ford. I’m hoping to go to the concert and thought I might ask if my wife would like to come too but she has made it abundantly clear that she doesn't want to. We were driving along when I started playing the two songs I had downloaded on to my phone –Tales of Brave Ulysses from classic album Disraeli Gears, and White Room which is from their hit album, Wheels of Fire. As I cranked the music up my wife pulled a face. “What is that?” she asked with more than a modicum of disdain.
“Cream,” I said. “Cool huh?” “I hate that kind of music,” she said. I was flabbergasted. This music is sacred to me and part of the soundtrack of my childhood. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, the Small Faces, The Doors, Cream, Jimi Hendrix ... this is the music I listened to as a boy and to me it’s almost holy. How could my wife not like it? It demonstrates the veracity of those lines about two men looking out from behind prison bars – “one saw mud, the other stars”. To my wife, Cream was mud, I guess, so that’s more music on the banned list. There are certain things I am simply not allowed to play around the house or in the car. Top of the list is Frank Zappa’s classic 1973 album, Over-Nite Sensation which features some charming songs, such as Dirty Love and I’m The Slime. I can’t imagine why she doesn’t like that album. I’m almost embarrassed to report that I am also a Cliff Richard fan,
which may have something to do with my vintage. I have a double album of his greatest hits and am also not allowed to play that. My album of Australian shearing ballads is also verboten, as are my classical CDs of lieder, classical German songs for voice and piano. Nein! Can’t play them either. I manage to play my album of Italian and English madrigals occasionally but have to put it on quietly because my wife doesn't care for that sort of musical fare either. Luckily we have a lot of musical tastes in common. She enjoys Henry Purcell, for instance, and Tomaso Albinoni, and she digs The Beatles, which is just as well. And we are on the same page when it comes to reggae. She even puts up with my obsession with Blossom Dearie but doesn't care for Matt Monro or Charles Aznavour. I will take a day off soon and play them all, loudly, by myself. So there.
Belinda Seeney Almost two-thirds of the way between summer and winter, autumn has finally slunk in. It was hardly a grand entrance but still, its presence was felt. The mornings are darker for longer, the afternoon sun dips lower earlier and there is a distinct crispness in the air when I set out on my morning run. It’s been weeks since the mercury hit 30 degrees and leaves are taking on the bronzed hues of the season. Despite this change, Brisbane airconditioning remains stubbornly set to sub-Arctic temperatures. While the sensible among us dig out flannelette pyjama pants and blow the dust off knee-high boots, shops, offices and entertainment venues still carry on as though we’re in a heatwave. I took a lovely stroll through Queen Street Mall last week. The temperature registered a balmy 26 degrees and the sun felt
pleasant on my skin – a glorious autumn day in the river city – until I set foot in one of the retailers vying for my custom and was met with the frigid blast of an air-conditioning unit still battling the ghost of summer past. I walked around half of the store before I was driven back into the weak sunshine, blue-lipped and shivering. Is it a ploy to move winter stock? To sell those Sherpa jackets and cable knits that landed midway through a sweltering February despite Brisbane only copping three days of winter each year? If that’s the case, what excuse do cinemas have? I barely make it past the pre-show ads before I cocoon myself in a cardigan and wish I’d splurged on hot chocolate instead of a choc top. It must appear as though I sit through the closing credits in case there’s a sneaky end scene but in
reality, by the time the hero rides off into the sunset I’ve become a human ice sculpture, frozen in my seat. Glancing around the newsroom, I spy an eclectic assortment of knits, ponchos, jackets and even a faux fur coat on hand to stave off the enthusiastic airconditioning. But these venues are rank amateurs compared to Brisbane’s almighty Ice Queen: QPAC. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sleeping Beauty was, in fact, suffering hypothermia such is the chill permeating the Lyric and Playhouse theatres. QPAC should forget employing ice-cream vendors and instead have them staff pop-up kiosks flogging shawls, blankets and lap rugs. They’d probably sell enough to fund Brisbane’s much-needed second theatre complex. I’d snap up one in a failing heartbeat.

Ask for the: Theia Luxe package, 2½ hours, $355 (includes full body massage, gold leaf facial and manicure or hand and arm massage). The lowdown: The facial incorporates a mask that uses 24kt gold to maximise absorption of skinnourishing ingredients. Wafer-thin layers of gold leaf are individually shaped and smoothed over my face then skilfully massaged into skin – this is the most opulent facial I’ve ever had. The gold nanoparticles are said to improve blood circulation, elasticity and stimulate cellular growth and repair. The mask is part of the Theia Luxe package’s nine-step facial. My visit starts with a calming one-hour full-body massage. The facial follows, with 90 minutes of cleansing, toning, and exfoliating before the application of a papaya and honey mask. Next comes a light serum over which the gold leaf pieces are positioned. The therapist adds a detoxifying and oxygenating serum before massaging in the gold leaf, finishing with a thick alginate mask which he peels off before moisturising. Verdict: While the gold leaf mask deservedly commands attention, the entire treatment lives up to its “luxe” tag and delivers results. My skin was

TAKE A BOW ... Jake McLarnon found dancing beat all sports. Picture: Richard Walker
As an athletic youngster Jake McLarnon was keen to find a sport he loved. By the time he was 11 years old he had tried rugby, AFL, basketball, golf, cricket, lacrosse, gymnastics, tennis and hockey, just to name a few. Then his younger sister, Jessie, started dancing. Jake was immediately hooked. Now, at 23, he is a professional dancer, starring with Expressions Dance Company in Behind Closed Doors, opening at QPAC on May 19. “I had tried every sport under the sun … I would get into them for a month, and then would hate them,” he says. “Then I got into dancing and that stuck. I enjoyed the idea of moving my body to a rhythm and beat. “I’ve got my sister to thank for my career. The funny thing is that she quit not long after she started while I kept going.” Jake, who lives in Fortitude Valley, says the EDC show is set in a luxury hotel and highlights the guests’ entwined relationships. “There is some bedhopping – the piece itself is extremely physical and very sensual. Natalie (Weir) has
choreographed some beautiful, emotional and intimate duets as well as solos and group work,’’ he says. “All the characters support each other and have this whole journey together. They are all really connected throughout the whole piece.’’ Jake has recently celebrated his first anniversary with EDC. He arrived in April last year from his home town of Perth for an eight-week contract and within a few days was offered a permanent position. “I couldn’t refuse,’’ he says. He now trains up to eight hours a day, including dancing and gym work. At high school he was teased for being a dancer. “If anything it (the teasing) made me a stronger person and made me realise how much I loved to dance,’’ he says. “There is not a more satisfying sound than the applause you receive when bowing at the end of a performance. I’m lucky enough to be in a position most people strive for.’’ BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, Expressions Dance Company, May 19-27, from $29, Playhouse Theatre, QPAC, cnr Grey and Melbourne streets, South Brisbane, qpac.com.au

BOTANIC BEAUTIES … Brisbane’s subtropical gardens inspire Richard Dunlop’s Palm Sunday 4 (above), Welcome back to Queensland (below, left) and The perfumed garden.
The lush subtropical vegetation of Brisbane has stayed with artist Richard Dunlop long since he left the city. He’s been in Melbourne for the past decade and is now moving to Tasmania. But wherever he is, his paintings hark back to the subtropical fecundity of his boyhood landscape. His latest exhibition at Jan Murphy Gallery is entitled Crossing The Rubicon River. “We have relocated to Hawley Beach, Tasmania, on the very beautiful Rubicon River,” Richard says when we catch up at the gallery. “Crossing the Rubicon in 18th century literature referred to losing your virginity or moving from innocence into knowledge. It stems from Julius Caesar who wanted to enforce his troops to fight to the death in new territory by literally burning the bridges behind them, there being no means of retreat. He crossed the Rubicon River in Italy with his troops at low tide knowing they could not return when the tide did.” Richard’s fans will be pleased that his obsession with Queensland’s botanical world remains. The Palm Sunday Suite of six
verdant, vibrant paintings refers to the Christian tradition of Palm Sunday but can be interpreted as “pictures of Queensland backyards where every Sunday could be celebrated”. Welcome back to Queensland depicts Queensland as a tropical paradise. It draws on his memories of walking to Ashgrove State School as a boy. The script adds a nostalgic touch. The perfumed garden is a lush and almost mystical work that has layers of paint and layers of meaning. “Underneath this painting is another one titled Shalimar (after Fairweather),” Richard says. “It is not a real garden of course, but based on the sensation a person might experience in a utopian garden.” His paintings are not literal, they are composites constructed through memory and are imbued with love. He may be moving to Tasmania but his paintings return to Brisbane time and again. We like that. Curry flavour RESTAURANT Tony Harper A friend and I were yakking about curries and curry restaurants, comparing notes on Brisbane’s best and I, like the fool I often am, completely forgot what’s possibly the best: Mamak Tandoori House. It’s not much to look at, and neither should it be – Mamak describes Malay-Indian street food, often operated by “Mamaks” (Tamil Muslims living in Malaysia), and compared to many such places in Malaysia, Mamak Tandoori House is positively decadent. It’s a smallish shop in Camp Hill’s Samuel Village Shopping Centre, with a handful of tables inside and out, and a bustling takeaway business. There is a lot to be had beyond curry – samosas, pakoda (pakora), bhajji, bonda, biryani, dhosa, breads, accompaniments and even gulab jamun. From what I’ve eaten (and I’ve been dining at Mamak for a couple of years) they hover between good and excellent. It’s all from a distinctly Indian provenance – no nasi lemak or mee goreng. But I go there for the curries. They are powerful, rustic, complex, soulful affairs that you can obsess over – every mouthful throws up a different hit of spice and it’s easy to get lost in the experience – or simply sink into the easy pleasure of cramming. Here’s my dirty secret (and it isn’t confined to Mamak Tandoori House. It rears its head at every place with a tandoor in the kitchen): I love

Peshwari and Kashmiri naan with my curries, regardless of type. It’s the hit of fruity sweetness against the sultry notes that, for me, makes the combination special, even though it’s a little like eating caviar on Weet-Bix. There are four fish curries – sambal, Goa, Bengal and Malabar – and I tend to rotate through them but it’s the Bengal ($17) and Malabar ($16.50) that thrill me most: thick, piquant, solid hunks of mackerel (moist, chunky, fresh), myriad spices. And there’s goat, cooked as either a traditional south Indian curry ($17) or
pepper masala ($18.50). The masala is thick, almost solid, and I’ve asked for the chilli to be beefed up: it’s hard to imagine anything better. There’s a familiar fragrance to it that I can’t quite place – bright, almost floral – and it belies the very rich, deep flavours of the dish. In a perfect world the goat would be cooked a little longer to soften its bounce, but it’s no big deal – it’s a wondrous dish, made even better with the Kashmiri naan. The menu isn’t all on the fringes of extreme – there’s plenty of popIndian, such as butter chicken, tikka

masala, rogan josh and even a Penang curry. I can only assume they will be as meticulously put together as the stuff I’ve eaten. Mamak Tandoori House isn’t licensed – you’ll need to provide your own beer and wine – and it can be a struggle to get a free table at peak times. But if you have a passion for handcrafted, exotic curries, it’s well worth the effort. Don’t go expecting frills or little luxuries as they don’t really fit the model of a Mamak diner: it really is all about the food.

PM Junk Boat, South Bank We’ve waited a long time for Tony Kelly and Scott Hoskins (Donut Boyz, Hello Harry) to bring Sunny Coast favourite Junk Boat to the big city, but the wait was worth it. Serving up a fresh and adventurous mix of Korean, Japanese, Thai and Cantonese street eats, Junk Boat opened its South Bank doors in February and we’ve had to loosen our belts ever since. Using locally sourced ingredients, Junk Boat mixes Asian street culture and modern cuisine. The dishes are best shared among friends, with the very popular kimchi and nacho cheese Gangnam Fries ($10) and the Crispy Fried Gunpowder Chicken Ribs ($15) being standout crowd pleasers. If solo dining is more your thing, the Ramen ($10) or Chicken Satay Rice Bowl ($15) is plenty for one. You can also get your favourite bubble tea spiked with a shot of vodka or gin ($6 nonalcoholic, $11 with alcohol).
AM Melt Brothers, City The brainchild of brothers Felix and Justin Kong, Melt Brothers specialises in gourmet cheese toasties. These delicious grilled sandwiches have high-quality cheddar and made-daily vegan sourdough. I came for brunch and returned an hour later for seconds. Try the M.C. Cheesy (macaroni and cheese, maple bacon, chipotle mayo, and cheddar cheese, $11.50), or The Meltdown (pulled pork, slaw, pickles, barbecue sauce, American and cheddar cheese, $12.50). Paint the town Belinda Seeney Dual rows of heritage-listed buildings act as sentries along the busy innercity street. Sturdy brick edifices are topped with scrolled parapets; stately rendered structures stand to attention with sharp gables and decorative columns; colour palettes splash bottlegreen and maroon highlights and embossed lettering boasts “Established 1886” and “Established 1892” in a show of historical one-upmanship. This streetscape in Toowoomba is familiar to many. But sneak down one of the lanes or alleys off these proud avenues and the new Toowoomba is displayed in glorious technicolour. Brick walls, office blocks and even tin sheds are canvases for the city’s flourishing street art scene. Fittingly, a mural bearing the phrase The New Frontier is splashed down one side of Keefe St, a tiny thoroughfare sandwiched between two imperial 125-year-old buildings. The mural is the work of Brisbanebased artists Emily Devers and Rick Hayward, who collaborate as Frank and Mimi, and was commissioned as part of the city’s street art festival, First Coat. The fourth annual event returns this month, as do Frank and Mimi whose 2015 Frontier mural was joined in 2016 by While we FLOURISH, a statement on sustainable food production. This year, they will join another 20 or so artists who will also make their mark on the city. A walking tour of Toowoomba’s CBD, aided by a handy map on the First Coat website, reveals hidden
FLAMBOYANT PRIDE ... Glorious graffiti is the hidden treasure behind Toowoomba’s elegant main streets. Works include Angel Lady in Mylne St, Indigenous Boy in Neil St and Fintan Magee’s elephant mural in Ruthven St. Pictures: David Kelly, David Martinelli
treasures around almost every corner. Fintan Magee, a street artist with an international reputation, has contributed two pieces including a striking depiction of an elephant gambolling down the side of a Ruthven St building. There are reclining polar bears and radioactive monkeys watching TV; a menacing impression of Little Red Riding Hood with her wolf and Steve Irwin brandishing a baby croc; girls invoking Ziggy Stardust and an indigenous boy with the sun in his eyes. Such art is not confined to the
street, with local businesses jumping on the bandwagon and ordering pieces in and around their premises. Developers are expanding the popular precinct. And ex-Brisbane chef Braden White is preparing to open his wood-fired concept restaurant, Pyro, in June – which First Coat director Grace Dewar chalks up as a win for the public art initiative. She estimates Toowoomba has 60 different public art sites, some bearing multiple murals, and predicts another two dozen artworks will be added over the course of this year’s three-day
festival. “We’ve heard of instances where public art has influenced the decisions of people who have started businesses here,” Grace says. “Now, four years in, we’re seeing the real extent of the impact of the investment in public art in this city.” FIRST COAT 2017 runs May 19-21. And while mum deserves to be spoiled throughout the year, there is no day like Mother’s Day to show her just how wonderful and appreciated she is. From a lush treatment at a beauty salon, to a well-deserved night out at her favourite restaurant or a rejuvenating weekend away where all she needs to do is kick up her feet and relax, there are all sorts of gift ideas out there to suit all kinds of mums, and all kinds of budgets. This Mother’s Day, on Sunday, May 14, show the leading lady in your life how much you care with a memorable gift or experience she can treasure forever. Above and

BREEZE IN ... The galley kitchen is the hub of the home, bridging the old and new.
The transformation of this Rosalie home designed by architect Matt Kennedy is proof that even a modest cottage on a small flood-affected site can become something very special. “Given the constraints of the property and the elaborate brief, it is amazing what Matt has managed to achieve,” says the owner, Eliza. “It was very much about creating light (filled spaces) and a feeling that we could bring the outside in and I think that has been done beautifully.” To ensure the property would not be affected by floods like the one in 2011, both the timber worker’s cottage and back yard were raised before the house was extended. “The thinking was to get it (the house) high and dry,” Matt says. “We decided to create a ‘plinth’ in the back yard that would allow us to create an ‘anchor’ for the house.” The ‘plinth’ includes a raised lawn and above-ground pool that ensure the back garden is only half a level lower than the new extension. “Without raising the lawn and pool, the concept of the house would not have worked,” Eliza says. “For me that is a big part of what makes this house (become) a home
that can engage with the landscape.” The new spaces of the house – the kitchen, living space and deck – extend from the rear of the original cottage, with a new bedroom and ensuite above. A courtyard garden on the northern side of the house ensures that, regardless of how neighbouring houses develop, ample natural light is available to illuminate the interior. Acting as a “bridge” between old and new is the galley kitchen. “It brings the whole house together, in a way,” Eliza says. “And the cabinetry under the staircase is just such a great efficient use of space.” High ceilings, large openings and built-in seating and storage contribute to the house achieving a sense of spaciousness that exceeds the

physical dimensions of the interior. To optimise spatial efficiency, the living room and deck work in tandem to accommodate the daily demands of living and dining. “Most days those sliders are peeled all the way back so it feels like that whole space is almost one,” Eliza says. “In winter we can shut it off, but winter is so short. For most of the year we can eat outside.” A half staircase connecting the deck and lawn ensures the garden always feels close by. “There’s something reassuring about being able to see grass,” Matt says. “You wouldn’t engage with the backyard as much if it was down a whole level.”
Sitting nooks created at the bottom of the stairs and at the living room window have become favourite spaces to gather and play. “The window seat that leans on to the back yard doubles as a (child’s) stage,” Eliza says. “Its also where we can have breakfast beside the window. “All the spaces really are used and lived in, in different ways. “That is what is so clever about the design.” Architect: Arcke ph: 3180 0287 Builder: P & R Lee Builders, ph: 0411 692 711 Pictures: Scott Burrows

A taste of home MasterChef winner Julie Goodwin’s new book serves up family meals anyone can master SALMON QUICHE Prep time: 25 minutes Cooking time: 40 minutes INGREDIENTS 1 quantity savoury shortcrust pastry or two sheets plain frozen shortcrust (if you have it in the freezer) 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese 50g baby spinach leaves 400g skinless, boneless salmon fillet, cut into 2cm cubes
1 bunch shallots (spring onions), finely sliced 1 bunch dill, leaves chopped 10 eggs ½cup cream ½tsp salt ¼tsp pepper
METHOD Preheat the oven to 170C. Grease a 26cm loose-based flan tin with butter or spray oil. Lay the pastry into the flan tin and trim the edges. Prick the pastry with a fork. Remove from the oven and take out the weights and paper. Arrange half the mozzarella cheese evenly over the base of the pastry case. Arrange the spinach over the top, followed by the salmon cubes, then scatter with the shallots and half of the dill leaves. In a bowl, beat the eggs then add the cream and beat well.

32 MARKET WATCH
Price it right ANTONIA MERCORELLA REIQ When advertising your home for sale, there are several ways to promote the price. “Price negotiable”, “make an offer” and “offers over a certain amount” are all terms commonly seen on property advertising. When you appoint your sales agent you will need to complete a Form 6 appointment form, and part of that will include a discussion about the property price. The agent is not allowed to market the property at a price lower than the price listed on this form, although there is scope to revise the figure later. You can also choose to market the property without a price at all. That’s perfectly acceptable and legal and is a way of testing the market. You can always add a price later on.
Marketing and price are monitored by the Office of Fair Trading Queensland. Bait advertising is an offence under the Australian Consumer Law for fair trading and consumer protection and carries penalties of up to $220,000 for individuals and $1.1 million for corporations. Put simply, bait advertising is
marketing a property for a price lower than what the vendor will accept. If the advertisement includes the term “offers over” then the OFT’s view is the price mentioned must be an amount the vendor is willing to accept. If your ad says, “offers over $475,000” but your Form 6 lists the price as $500,000, then the OFT would consider that bait advertising.
“Price negotiable” and “make an offer” are acceptable terms to use, but bear in mind that on property portals in particular, potential buyers respond to a price. There can be pros and cons to both sides – including a price or not including a price. A reputable real estate agent will guide you on the best strategy for wording your advertisement.

Greener pastures Hopevale has been grazing quality cattle since the 1890s, with current owner Ross Harris having purchased the property in 2010 after researching the area for a few years. “I needed a place that would be easy to manage, but big enough to provide income,” Mr Harris said. “Also, importantly, it had to provide a home and space for my daughters, as well as their horses.” Now his daughters are making their own way in life, Mr Harris is selling Hopevale, which he describes as a beautiful property with a good mix of country, great for trail riding, bush walking and camping. Spread over three freehold titles, Hopevale includes a five-bedroom homestead, workable farm infrastructure and sheds, 16 paddocks, a laneway and steel yard and 500m of creek frontage. The residence has a country-style
kitchen, two fireplaces and wide wraparound verandas, while more than 60 per cent of the land is cleared and almost all of the property is suitable for cattle grazing. Hopevale is also well watered, with other features including four dams, a windmill and bore, an established olive grove of 1500 trees and a hay shed. Access to the property is easy, with sealed roads.

Horoscope with Tanya Obreza TAURUS (April 21-May 20) Every now and then you question whether you are truly content. Sometimes this concerns relationships, but the focus this week falls more on work. Remember that you can find resolution to most problems. Either sort it or change direction. The choice is yours.
GEMINI (May 21-June 21) Professionally, you’re on the right track. But if you’re considering a romantic escapade, disappointment may follow. Seemingly your best ventures this week are solo efforts, so if it comes to the question of a romantic tango, you may have to consider sitting that one out. CANCER (June 22-July 22) It’s a week of change, but you must be getting used to that by now. Joint money matters may lead to arguments. Emotionally, expect a time of feisty passions. Just try not to make too many demands on friends
and loved ones – they have breaking points too. LEO (July 23-August 23) It’s quite likely that you mean what you say, but what others hear is a different matter. This is a time when your best intentions are misconstrued, which means even more detail may be required. Unfortunately, the more you say the deeper the pit you dig.
under the command of your emotions. Perhaps you’re hiding something. Be honest, and let others know your true feelings.
gone some time ago. Don’t blame yourself. You didn’t fail. It just didn’t work out. You know what they say – as old doors close, new ones open.
LIBRA (September 23-October 23) Should a chapter in your life be finalised early in the week, follow up with positive action. Outdated love or friendships may end, giving you the freedom to rediscover a new dating scene. Don’t worry if you’re out of practice. Great things can happen when you least expect them to.
AQUARIUS (January 21-February 18) Aquarians are usually clever rather than audacious when it comes to money. But this week finds you being more aggressive, with an impulsive shop-till-you-drop attitude. Stay clear of money-making schemes seeming too good to be true, because they probably are.
SCORPIO (October 24-November 22) Just when you were about to let go of some long-held dreams, along comes a guardian angel to remind you why you had such high hopes in the first place. So what should you do? Give up or go on? Trust the voice within.
PISCES (February 19-March 20) This week aims to test your tolerance, so stay calm if you hope to emerge with friendships intact. No one’s saying you’re at fault, but you could be a contributor. Forget recrimination. Try mediation instead and you’ll win the respect and support of like-minded souls.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23-December 21) Even in the toughest work schedule we can come to a halt, because it feels like something’s missing. Often it will be something we take for granted, such as friends or family. This week’s planetary line-up prompts you to retrieve some of these lost treasures.
VIRGO (August 24-September 22) Put the brakes on any major decisions this week, Virgo. With your usual sense of logic taking a leave of absence, you’re pretty much left
CAPRICORN (December 22-January 20) This week many Capricorns are freed from constraints that should have

ARIES (March 21-April 20) Should your usual routine be disrupted just try to go with the flow. You are resilient and you won’t be given more than you can handle. However, around the weekend pent-up feelings could erupt. What happens next depends on your reaction, so think twice before saying something you may regret.
