PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION The Parks and Recreation Commission is responsible for parks and recreation policies & programs within Brisbane. Its five to seven members are appointed by the City Council for terms of four years each and meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm in the Community Meeting Room at Brisbane City Hall.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION & POLICIES All activities require registration before attending. Activities may be cancelled due to lack of enrollment. Please register early so an activity will not be cancelled unnecessarily. Brisbane residents pay a reduced fee. Resident fee eligibility is for all individuals who reside or work in Brisbane. Proof of residency may be required, e.g., drivers license, PG&E bill, or pay stub from a Brisbane employer.

Resident fee applies if you live or work in Brisbane.

A non-refundable transaction fee is added to some registrations.

If a program is cancelled by the instructor or the recreation department, a refund will be issued to participants.

Participants will be placed on a waiting list once the activity reaches maximum enrollment. If a space becomes available, we will notify waitlisted regsitrants by phone.

Refunds will be given if after one meeting, participant is not satisfied.

TAHITIAN DANCE “Taurea, Toa, Aito, Hiva et Fetia” Ages 4-12

Come and learn the basics of Tahitian Dance. This class will teach the terminology of the Tahitian Dance movement and choreography, along with the teachings of basic drum beats and music of Tahiti. No previous experience is required. Everyone is welcomed. Required attire: Pareo (sarong), shorts or sweatpants for girls. Athletic shorts or sweatpants for boys, t-shirt, no shoes (socks are permissible). Classes will be accompanied by live drumming and music. Camp Club Rec

Ages 5-12 Summer is for fun and games, getting dirty, going on adventures, making friends, and making memories. We fill our days with activities, games, arts, and crafts based on our weekly theme that will keep your child entertained and engaged all summer long. We have a weekly Wednesday field trip, swimming on Tuesdays & Thursdays and a special event or activity each Friday to end the week of camp.

Ages 11-15 This camp combines work and play and helps teens learn to give back to the community. Campers will visit different community programs around the Peninsula and San Francisco. The locations will be chosen by the Youth Advisory Committee. The last field trip will be voted on by those attending the camp. This camp builds creative minds and challenges adventurous souls. Space will be limited!

Preschool Camp

Ages 3 years 9 months - 5 years 8 months The Brisbane Parks & Recreation Department offers a developmentally appropriate program to encourage, support, and develop the whole child. Our days are balanced with a variety of enrichment activities including art, imaginative play, recreation, music, stories, and more. We aspire to enhance self-esteem, encourage independence, foster friendships, and provide a nurturing introduction to school. Preschool program participants must have been a minimum of three years old as of September 1st, 2017 and be fully potty trained at the start of the program (no exceptions). Leader in Training

Ages 12-15 Leader in Training (L.I.T) Program is a great way for teens entering 7th-11th grade to develop leadership skills and have fun! The program is a 4 week commitment. L.I.T’s are trained in supervision, game creation, arts & crafts and playing sports. Please note: the L.I.T program may be used towards fulfilling community service requirements (please check with your school). Space is limited and LIT’s will be interviewed before selected. Applications will be available inside the Parks and Recreation office.

SHAKESPEARE CAMP Ages 7-13

Have your kids "get into the act" at Shakespeare Camp taking place at Lipman Middle School Gym in Brisbane again this summer! The camp accommodates ages 7-13. Shakespeare Camp provides training in: Shakespeare's rich language, Acting and improvisation, Voice and movement technique, Stage combat and Set and costume design and more! The Camp is designed for new performers as well as those with experience. All scripts, materials, and supplies for staging the performances are included. 39 years and still growing BDW continues to offer, theater, dance and voice classes to children and adults. We nurture the creative and magical spirit of each student while holding high achievements for all. Each year BDW produces an original performance in May at Mission Blue. Brisbane Preschool Program

ages 3-5

The Brisbane Parks & Recreation Department offers a developmentally appropriate half-day program to encourage, support, and develop the whole child. Preschoolers days are balanced with a variety of enrichment activities including art, imaginative play, recreation, music, stories, and more. We aspire to enhance self-esteem, encourage independence, foster friendships, and provide a nurturing introduction to school. Due to the extreme popularity of the Preschool program, the Parks & Recreation department generally holds a lottery for the open spaces in the program. Classes for the Fall session of Preschool will start on September 4th, 2018. All students participating in the Preschool program must be a minimum of three years old as of September 1st, 2018 and fully potty trained at the start of the program (no exceptions). Brisbane Afterschool Program

The Kinder Care and Club Rec afterschool programs (located in the Parks & Rec clubhouse on the playground of BES) provide a supportive and nurturing atmosphere that keep kids safe and engaged while bridging the gap between school and home. A daily snack is provided. Our play based approach offers a balance of educational, social, and recreational opportunities.

Kinder Care (Kindergarten only)

Kinder Care is for Kindergarten students and is only until 3:00pm daily.

At 2:00pm each day (1:10pm for minimum days) Club Rec staff meets the Kinder Care participants at their class room for daily sign in. Staff then walks with participants down to our clubhouse. Staff will sign kids registered for Club Rec onto the Club Rec roster at 3:00pm each day. All Kinder care participants not registered for Club Rec must be picked up by 3:00pm.

Fee: 10 monthly payments of $46 for Residents/$55 for Non-Residents

Club Rec (K-6th Grade) REGISTRATION FOR 2018-19 OPENS APRIL 10, AT 8:00 AM

Registration for the 2018-19 school year is on a first come, first served basis. It is anticipated that the program will quickly fill to capacity and a waitlist will be established once capacity is reached. If registering online please make sure you have an online account and password by April 7, 2018. Do not wait until April 9 or 10 to create an online account as you may miss the opening day of registration.

At 2:30pm dismissal all 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade participants must walk down to the clubhouse and sign in with staff. At 3:00pm all 4th & 5th grade participants must walk down to clubhouse and sign in with staff.

The Club Rec club house is on the upper part of the play yard next to upper basketball court. The Club Rec program ends at 6:00pm daily.

GUPPY - A Parent/Child Class - Ages 6 months-3 years

This class is held in the big pool and will teach adults basic water adjustment and safety skills for their children.

Students will learn to put their face in the water and enjoy the water safely.

PIRANHA SWIM CLUB Prerequisite: Completion of Shark swim level

Piranhas is designed for stoke efficiency, and endurance. Students will learn how to make all four competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle) as streamlined as possible. During this session, students will learn drills that enhance the understanding of how each stroke works. Drills break down the stroke step by step and help the swimmer feel each mechanical part of the stroke, which in turn helps make the stroke smooth and efficient. They will also learn legal flip turns and dives. To enhance endurance, students will also be doing interval training utilizing the pace clock.

JUNIOR LIFEGUARDING CAMP Ages 11-15

Junior Lifeguards will be introduced to the fundamentals of rescues, first aid and CPR skills. TAHITIAN DANCE “Taurea, Toa, Aito, Hiva et Fetia” Ages 13+

Come and learn the basics of Tahitian Dance. This class will teach the terminology of the Tahitian Dance movement and choreography, along with the teachings of basic drum beats and music of Tahiti. No previous experience is required. Everyone is welcomed. Required attire: Pareo (sarong), shorts or sweatpants for girls.
