EXIT BOOK
about... Andrew is a passionate creative. He strives to mix media and progress in a multitude of disciplines from music to painting, drawing and animation. He has much experience in a broad range of activities and is concentrat ing on animation to further his career. excelling in 2d flash, photoshop, premiere and hand drawn andrew hopes to join an enthusiastic team of animators as an intern. competent in after fx, audition, maya,stop-mo pro and more andrew is keen to learn new techniques and gain more experience making animation. andrew plays basketball, skates and trains at a boxing gym in his spare time.
animation... Ocean Acidification project - A fellow UWE, Bristol Animation student and friend Thomas Barth pitched for, secured and produced a film about Ocean Acidification to be circulated around schools. Tom employed people from UWE, Bristol to work on the 2D production including andrew. The finished product was a flying success. andrew used Flash to create a series of clouds/smoke to be coming out of the factories and then merging with the sea contaminating it. This was represented as a skull forming and then dispersing into the water.
ANIMATION...
In December 2012 andrew worked with Sarah Cox and her team at ArthurCox on a film about a government led arts incentive for Scottish youth, ‘Creative Scotland: Time to shine’. he worked in Flash to animate and give life to characters designed by the children themselves. ‘I really enjoyed the experience and the relaxed atmosphere of the studio. This is the type of animation I wish to pursue.’
ANIMATION...
Bbc4 –‘Listening Project’ – This is a project comcom posed of hundreds of sound-bytes of dialogue. The dialogue is around 2-3 minutes long for each of 2 people talking about a specific theme and requires a creative approach to animate; not just faces and lip syncing. I co-pitched for this and secured it with Sophie Marsh. We chose a clip by an Ice Cream man and a farmer complaining about the weather. Live..In by June
ANIMATION...
Andrews final graduation film produced between Feb-May was a collaboration effort between him and Xarnda. Xarnda produced the music tracks and andrew produced the film itself. ‘The film was the largest project I’ve undertaken and was a steep learning curve. I approached the film with an intention to experiment and learn some more techniques in After Effects and Flash.’
animation... ‘Will it ever End?’ – This was a joint production with Anton J. Mandy, Jem Gad And Lauren Fitzpatrick. The majority of the animation was roto-scoped and worked with in Flash. The backgrounds were largely textured through google images and photoshop. The film was a success and I learnt a lot about working as a team.
animation...
‘Measles of mankind’ – I directed this film, dede signed the characters and was also ‘key animator’. With the help of producer Emma Shepherd and Background artist Josh Bonito it was another success. The concept is based around a quote from Albert Einstein – ‘Nationalism is an infantile disease, it is the measles of mankind’. It repre sents children in a playground personifying national stereotypes. i am happy with the consistency of line in this production and the character design/animation.
MURALS... Frenchay mural – 3/12 ‘In March of 2012 in line with the Olympics I painted a large wall next to the shop on Frenchay Campus along with Cosmo and others. The 3 days I worked there was a great experience and I learnt a lot from the more experienced artists.’
T4 – 7/12 ‘T4-on-the-beach’ is a 1 day festival on the beach at Weston-super-mare aimed at 15 – 18 year olds. As part of UWE I worked there in the ‘Have-a-go-grafitti tent’ alongside Silent Hobo assisting children to try their hand and making personalised T-Shirts. I personally ran the ‘doodle wall’. It was good fun and a great experience.
murals...
‘The Caligari Experience’ was a multi-disciplinary stage show including film projection, aerial acrobatics, acting and more. I volunteered as a set builder and co-produced a massive advert in the heart of stokes croft done with aerosol paint. The night was a sell-out, very impressive and a joy to work with.
more... I was involved in a 10 day artists residency in a small village near and that pre-dates Rome in August 2013. I was particularly interested in symbolism at the time and did much research around the area before and during the time there. I produced site-specific work for the locals using the symbolism and had a great time working/socialising with the locals. In this time, for fun, I started to draw caricatures of the locals in and around the bar there. A lot of my work was bought and I realised my ability to draw caricatures that people enjoyed. Ive continued to work on this skill in Bristol.
As part of my ‘Visual Culture’ module in my final year I formed a business plan to encompass all the creative activities I do aside from animation. I am soon to setup as self-employed to carry on the momentum of the mural work and caricatures. My main focus however is still to pursue animation and hopefully secure an internship.

Sarah - ArthurCox studio, bristol ‘Andy worked with us at ArthurCox during his second year of study on a project for Creative Scotland to get young people engaged with the Arts. Andy adapted to a studio environment very quickly and his work improved dramatically over the short time he worked with us. He has a strong and distinct style which worked very well for our project. He showed an enthusiasm to adapt and learn new software and was always punctual and friendly.’
