about me Hello! My name is Astari Wisesa, I am an animation graduate from the University of the West of England, Bristol. Previously, I did a BTEC Higher National Diploma in graphic design in my home country, Indonesia. I am passionate about both graphic design and animation, equally interested in typography and film making. I seek to gain more experience to be able to combine them, as I believe working and thinking in a sequential format opens up new variables and opportunities not available in traditional two-dimensional print design. The following are a selection of my works, I hope you find something interesting, as I am very lookng forward to working with you!

PACKAGING

snapple BRIEF

Design a new bottle label series

for Snapple, an established brand, bearing in mind its target market and legacy. RESPONSE

I designed the new labels

focusing on the all natural concept, displaying the fresh fruits and tea leaves as the main attraction. Also, I revived the 'snappiness' people miss with the slanted logo. On the right is one of my alternative designs. I experimented with different colors for the background and the logo ribbons. The final labels are white on brown, as you can see on the next spread, to signify that Snapple is first and foremost, tea.

Use various image

manipulation techniques to create a series of advertising tools for a product of your choice. R ES P O N S E

The "tagline"of

FOX'S is very suitable for my main concept, however, I need to develop it in a surrealist approach. Bearing that in mind, I also made sure each advertisement tool conveys the same message even if they are in different forms.

IDEAS IN CONTEXT

psa for save BRIEF

Create a public service

announcement poster series on the subject of your choice, incorporating ideas in social, economy and cultural context. RESPONSE

I chose suicide prevention

as my topic. Taking one's own life when he or she still has so much potential for the future is an immense loss to the family, the country, or the society he or she left. I hope these posters reach out to those who are undergoing stress as well as to people who have the capability to help, but are ignorant. (continued on page 41)

(continued) The issue has been escalating in recent years, this is proven by the rising number of suicides, especially with the younger generations or teenagers. To better convey the message, I approached the audience with modern, twenty-first century items that they encounter frequently everyday. I decided to use the shortcut for undo, "Ctrl + Z", seeing how fitting it was as a counterpart to the non-profit organisation I chose, "SAVE".

EDITORIAL DESIGN

ideal home B R IEF

Redesign a whole edition's

magazine layout after analyzing its strengths and weaknesses. R ES P O N S E

Ideal Home's

previous layout was cluttered and "full", unlike a real ideal Home. Therefore I approached the new magazine layout to be very neat and clean, but still homey and warm.

3D MODELLING

ugo B R IEF

Create a movie poster

revolving around a character and his or her environment using 3D approaches. R ES P O N S E

With this project I intend

to address a real problem in Indonesia. I believe the matters in Papua haven't been given the proper attention it deserves. I aimed to publicise, shed light on the problem, and raise people's awareness through these fictional movie posters. (continued on page 53)

(continued) Ugo is the name of the Papuan boy who is torn between two ideals, when he is adopted by volunteers to live with them in Jakarta, Indonesian capital. Will he succumb to Jakarta's metropolitan habits or will he maintain the traditions from his tribe? These "traditions" include (but not restricted to) their view of Indonesia, how bad they have been treated, and similar issues. The mask is a symbol of his attachment to Papua. As seen on the second version of the poster (left), I wanted to convey the message "subtly" by only using the mask on a white background. I vaguely hinted that this mask symbolises how easily the issues in Papua fade from people's concerns, especially Indonesian.

Work in a team of two to animate

a short movie in the style of your choice, but preferably with hints of Indonesia. R ES P O N S E

Me and my friend Ava work

in tandem very closely together to produce this short movie. I handle the visuals and or animation, from character designs to the movie poster on the left.

glykos inc. B R IEF

Create the corporate identity and

Graphic Standard Manual of an imaginary company in the food and beverage industry. Bear in mind the target audience and positioning of this company. R ES P O N S E

"The world right now has

set its sight on a lot of new priorities. If previously all our concerns revolve around the three essences: food, clothing, and accommodation; the cultured people of today actually pay their utmost attention on the miniscule details of these things. We have all taken big steps forward in terms of lifestyle qualities and consequently our business follows closely. With this in mind, we formed Glykos, the company we believe to have the capability to survive in the current world where trend is almost everything."

museum wayfinding B R IEF

Study implications of designing a

wayfinding system for public places and find the relation of typography, images, colour and location with good signage. Do a field study for the place where you are to redesign the way finding system. R ES P O N S E

Prioritizing the

audience, I designed a hybrid wayfinding system (digital and conventional) that clearly and interactively conveys information, while carefully avoiding creating new "attractions."

Digital signage system is a very fitting solution for Museum Nasional, as it will allow a very thorough and elaborate understanding of the place that cannot be achieved through conventional wayfinding. Furthermore, there has been a shortage of human guides at the museum. Rather than hiring more, this system will be more economic. Also, visitors can download the app to their own smartphones simply through scanning QR codes. The app lets you explore the museum while lookng at your position in the map. The existence of a search function can also guide you to the exact collection you wish to see. Exploring the museum will be a much greater fun, when you know you wlll never get lost.

MOTION GRAPHICS

tvc B R IEF

Create a 15 seconds TV

advertisement for UniSadhuGuna International College of Business and Design with a provided script. Improvements and improvisations are allowed as long as the message doesn't change. R ES P O N S E

There was a challenge

with the short time and the content of the message that the client wants conveyed, however, by simplifying storyboard in revision stages, I found the most economic and quick path to complete this TVC.

Embark on a project that would

support my future plans. R ES P O N S E

I decided that I want

to develop my CGI skills and therefore I collaborated with a friend who already has a story concept to create this 2-minute film. In this project I designed the human character, Pablo, as well as taking a big part in modelling, rigging, texturing, and especially rendering and compositing.
