I am a recent graduate of BA(hons) Animation from the University of the West of England. My work draws on my experience from my previous course Drawing and Applied Arts, which means my works are usually tactile in nature. Work varies between being led by materials and being story driven, resulting in a variety of media and style. I like to create miniature worlds, such as her oriental house and garden constructed within a Chinese ink stamp box. I try to utilise found materials wherever possible, in keeping with my ethos of conservation. My works have an innocent charm, being simplistic yet paying close attention to detail. These knitted Buffy figures are a strong example of the innocent charm prevalent in much of my work, taking strong willed characters in often dark situations, and softening them through the medium of wool.

A series of robot figures created whilst still on the Drawing and Applied Arts course show my ability to see potential for art from even the smallest scrap of materials. The robot girls are miniscule in scale standing at 2cm, yet well chosen scrap componants mixed with shaped solder give each robot a distinct personality. The robot and monster shown below are larger in scale, but again utlise only scrap. The knitted octopus has a twisted wire inner core, which is where I first started to become interested in puppet making.

My first animation was Frankentoast, the story of how a mad (toast) scientist gathers his parts to make his monsterous creature. The props above were amoungst my favourite things to make, as I enjoy making semi-realistic items on a small scale.

Stills from my final film Hugh, a story about a lonely widower. A fox starts to watch his TV through his window, and then form a friendship of sorts, mutually enjoying TV together.
