WHE RE CAN CE LTA TAKE YO U ? Your CELTA qualification can open the door to a wide range of teaching opportunities both in the UK and overseas. After qualifying as a teacher your teaching journey could include: • Teaching English as a foreign language (either in your home country or around the world) • Teaching English online • Working as a private tutor • Working as a language teaching assistant • Working as an in-house English language teacher for a company or organisation • Teaching English as part of a humanitarian or non-profit organisation You could also choose to expand your teaching opportunities through further training on a DELTA or Professional Development course.
WHO IS T HE CE LTA F OR? The CELTA is for anyone, you just need to have a proficient level of English in order to take the course. So if you want to start a new career teaching English as a second language then the CELTA is perfect for you. The course is also suitable for people who have some teaching experience but would like training and to gain the highlyregarded CELTA qualification.

WH AT I S T HE CELTA C OU R S E L I K E? The CELTA course covers a range of topics: •L earners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context •L anguage analysis and awareness •L anguage skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing •P lanning and resources for different teaching contexts
You should also allow for 80 additional learning hours for pre-course preparation, reading, research, assignment writing and lesson preparation. The maximum ratio of candidates to tutors is one tutor for every six candidates, and there are at least two tutors on each course.
WILL I PASS? To receive a CELTA certificate you will need to complete the course and meet the assessment criteria for all written and practical assignments. There is no exam on a CELTA course, it is continuously assessed according to your teaching practice and written work. Other factors that your tutors will take into consideration include your planning and lesson structure, your punctuation and language accuracy and your response to feedback. There are three passing grades: Pass A, Pass B and Pass. We have successfully trained thousands of people on our CELTA courses so you are in safe hands.

E LIGIBILIT Y To be eligible for acceptance onto a CELTA course at BSC you should: • be 18 or over by the start of the course • have a level of education sufficient to enter university • have a minimum English level of high C1 (CEFR) / 7.5 or above in IELTS
