COURSE CONTENT

Your CELTA course at BSC will include at least 120 hours of contact between candidates and course tutors, as well as:

• Tutorial support and consultation

• Supervised lesson planning

• Six hours’ assessed teaching practice per candidate supervised by a course tutor Feedback on teaching practice

• Peer observation of teaching practice (i.e. watching the other candidates’ lessons)

• Six hours’ directed observation of lessons

You should also allow for 80 additional learning hours for course preparation, reading, research, assignment writing and lesson preparation.

Flexible 12 week CELTA courses to fit around your life

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• 18 years old and over

• Educated to a level suitable for higher education or university (A levels or equivalent)

• Competent in both written and spoken English (C1 minimum)

• Successful completion of an interview and a language awareness test

ONLINE COURSES

You will need access to a computer (not tablet), a stable Internet connection, headphones and microphone and a quiet place to study and deliver teaching practice. For blended courses you will need a computer (not tablet) and a quiet place to study.

BSC Manchester college is in a newly modernised historic building situated in the heart of the city centre and is close to cafes, shops, restaurants and a vibrant music scene.

There’s the Northern Quarter with its music venues, bars, pubs and many restaurants, or the Ancoats area with its industrial history. There are free museums to visit, theatres to enjoy plays, cinemas to see the latest films or watch a Premier football match at City or United.

You can find everything you need for CELTA, including a training room, classrooms; all with interactive whiteboards. Dedicated CELTA books and resources are at your disposal.

I enjoy the rewards that being a CELTA trainer brings. It’s wonderful to see teachers growing in confidence and putting their new skills into practice.

The CELTA certificate opens so many doors, from teaching whilst travelling to a full career path into training or management. I should know. I did my CELTA with this wonderful company many years ago, and now I’m a teacher trainer with BSC.

York is a beautiful walled city with winding streets and friendly people. It is small enough to walk across but big enough to have all the shops and facilities that visitors need. In 2021 it was voted as one of the best places to live in the country and is within easy reach of Manchester, London and Edinburgh by train. It’s a great place to come and study.

BSC York is located close to the city centre and is a few minutes away from cafes and restaurants. The CELTA centre is part of BSC York college and has a training room and classrooms with interactive whiteboards and a library of CELTA resources.

BSC CELTA COURSES

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for acceptance onto a CELTA course at BSC you should:

• be 18 or over by the start of the course

• have a level of education sufficient to enter university

• have a minimum English level of high C1 (CEFR) / 7.5 or above in IELTS

INTERVIEW

The interview will assess your language awareness and competence in written and spoken English.

It will last up to one hour and can be arranged either in school or online.

All candidates will be interviewed before acceptance on the course as stipulated by the accreditation body, Cambridge Assessment English
