Student Story S O F I A’ S E X P E R I E N C E Sofia, from Mexico studied the International Foundation Year with BSC, and will go on to study at the University of Kent for BSc (Hons) Psychology with Clinical Psychology.
What course did you study with BSC? I studied the International Foundation Year programme. I applied because I want to go to university here in the UK. I felt like it was something that I really wanted to do because I wanted to have an academic challenge. I could have done something similar back home but it was better suited for me here because I am someone who is very academically driven and I felt that the UK, at least for psychology, is very challenging and I love challenges! What topics did you study on the course? It’s a course that gives us an introduction to a UK university system. It’s been really useful to develop Socratic thinking and be able to create my own ideas and opinions on different topics about the world. I have an international relations class, economics, English and business but my favourite class has been international relations. I’ve learned a lot about the world and different ideologies. I feel that summarises my time in the course, at least this far, I’ve been able to learn a lot about the world from a different perspective than I had back home. It’s been really interesting to be in an environment from people from a lot of different countries so I’ve enjoyed exploring that side.
I would totally recommend BSC because for me it’s been an excellent course that has brought a lot out in me. I’ve become more confident in my own skin through living alone, making train journeys, meeting new people from different cultures and finding a middle ground to communicate. Also learning, it’s been great. I would totally recommend it to someone who wants to begin their education in the UK. It’s an excellent stepping stone to university.

Student Stories Our students come from all over the world to achieve their dreams; meeting people from all the world, enhancing their English and gaining an offer to a UK University. Find out what makes BSC so great for Pathways programmes.
Keer, from China, scored A*BB on her final exams. She is progressing to Durham University to study Business Management. What was the teaching like on the International Foundation Year course? I really like the British teaching style. I think it’s suitable for me because I’m used to the British style instead of Chinese traditional. My parents are very open and support me to study abroad and encourage me to try something new and have a different style of thinking, such as British critical thinking, meet new people who are more diverse. I quite enjoy life in London, it’s a melting pot. Would you recommend the International Foundation Year course? The teachers are really brilliant. I studied at an international school in China and I studied a year for A level but I’ve changed now to study the International Foundation Year as my pathway to university. The classmates are really nice, we are all from all over the world, every corner of the earth. Do you think the course is good preparation for university? Yes, especially for international students who are going to study abroad like me. Since I’ve been here the people are more diverse with many nationalities.
After completing her International Foundation Year, Isabel, from Colombia, received an offer to study BA English with Creative Writing at Brunel University London.
After completing his International Foundation Year at BSC London, Saleh, from Saudi Arabia received an offer to study History and Archaeology at Bangor University.
What do you like about studying with BSC?
Which Pathways course did you study?
I like that the classes are really fun. It’s like you’re learning but at the same time, you’re having a good time! You meet really nice people, the teachers are really, really nice and everything is just so easy. London is an amazing city.
I studied the International Foundation Year. I was picked by my government to do a scholarship and it was really great. For now, it was a really interesting experience here at this school and learning so much stuff about the International Foundation Year. Everyone is so welcoming and it’s easy to understand and feel comfortable.
What do you learn in class and how does it prepare you for university? Our English classes teach you how to do all the work we will need to do for university. It’s a class where, even though we work a lot, we are all the time discussing “why do you think that” so I think that’s amazing. In International Relations nowadays we learn about the relationship between countries so it’s great to have the chance to study this topic with students from around the world. Would you recommend BSC? Yes, a lot! Everything and all the process to get here was so easy and the people have been really nice. It’s amazing to come here in London because it gives you the opportunity to see if you really want to move out of your country.
Would you recommend the International Foundation Year course at BSC? Definitely. I would recommend it strongly! It’s easy to communicate with the teachers as well as the students and the teachers will make it so simple to understand and be as helpful as they can and also be there for you. How does the course prepare you for university? Well, it actually prepared me a lot for university. I didn’t expect to have this kind of preparation but it’s really helpful. In my country, we don’t have this. You just finish high school and you just go to college there’s no preparation. There’s no one to tell you what you will do. But here it’s nice to have an idea and to have a practice and they give you a practice of what you will have to do in college and it’s really helpful.

Student Story
A B D U L’ S E X P E R I E N C E Abdul, from Mozmbique came to study the International Foundation Year at BSC London. After completing his University Pathways course with British Study Centres, Abdul went on to study Accounting and Finance at Aston University. What modules did you study on the course? Business, economics and maths, and English for academic purposes. I came to the UK to study and finish my education. I was studying General English before I did the International Foundation Year. What are you studying now? I’m studying accounting and finance at Aston University. How did the foundation year help you get your place at Aston University? I would say the grades that I had obviously helped and I received support for my personal statement. These were the most important things to help me get accepted at this university. Would you recommend the foundation year at BSC? Yes, I would recommend it if you’re planning to study business and choose the business modules then all of this relates. All of the knowledge they will teach you, you will need in the first or second semester. Everything I learned in my foundation year course was similar to everything I learned in class during the first semester at university and it made my life much easier.
