Claret Newsletter Term 1 December 2015 Hi! My name is ZoĂŤ Owen and I am the coordinator for BC at Colegio Claret.
Dear Parents and Students! We have been very busy this term getting to know each other and, most importantly, learning lots of English! Thank you for returning this year and if you are new to our community, we offer you a very warm welcome. In this newsletter we will tell you more about what we have been studying in each level, introduce our teachers and keep you up to date on news. What are we doing in class? Koalas (Cheryl)
Tigers (Cat /James)
Koalas have been learning about Autumn colours, numbers and parties such as birthdays and Chritmas. Here’s a story that you can read at home on your tablet.: http:// www.myonlinereading.com/autumn-leaves.php
Tigers have been learning about pets and how to take care of them. Cat’s class made their own pet shops to practise vocabulary. They have also been learning house vocabulary and what things are in each room.
Pandas (Margaret) Margaret’s Pandas have been looking at clothes and daily routines, their likes and dislikes as well as actions. They have been reading about Marty the Monster and are able to describe his appearance . With Monster Phonics they have been learning these sounds: s, a, t, p, i, n, c, k, i, m, n, d, g, o. Olivia Santolaya’s Pet Shop (right) Pinks (Andrea)
Pinks have been learning vocabulary about families, physical appearances, different places to live and numbers 1-100. They have also looked at daily routines, the days of the week and telling the time in English. They have also written some excellent book reviews about some of the books in our Library (opposite) Reds (Cheryl/James) Reds have been learning how to give their opinions about school subjects and use adjectives to describe school. They have looked at action verbs and adverbs to describe how something is happening (e.g. he’s running quickly/slowly/quietly). They have started learning how to make past questions using some irregular verbs e.g. “Did you go?” and how to respond to these questions. Yellows (Margaret) Yellows have been learning vocabulary used to talk about different jobs and actions connected with those jobs. They have also talked about their favourite TV programmes and how to give directions to different places found in the city. They have also been reading the story of the Three Little Pigs.

Junior 1 (Allison/Jenny/Natalia)
Junior 2 (Allison)
Junior 1 have been looking at using different verb tenses to say how they spend their free time. They have read about people who have achieved extraordinary things. They have also learned about natural disasters and wonders of the world. They can also tell you what a Cyborg is, if you would like to know!
Junior 2 have been learning how to describe sounds and looking at how to talk about things they have done using the present perfect. They have read about world festivals and have been focusing on how to make predictions about the future. They have also written some excellent book reviews!
Junior 4 (Margaret) Junior 4 have been learning vocabulary about travel and transport, health and feelings and global issues. They have also been writing letters, stories and essays. Junior 5 (Margaret) Junior 5 have been bringing all their grammar together through topics such as emotions, celebrities and cities. They have learnt a lot of phrasal verbs to make their English sound more natural.
Senior 6 (Natalia/ZoĂŤ) Senior 6 have been looking at how to tackle different parts of the FCE exam and have had some interesting topics to discuss such as fashion, the effects of stress and other public health issues.
Senior 7 (Natalia) Senior 7 have been looking at how to manipulate sentences to express subtle differences in meaning. They have studied lots of vocabulary related to life stages, memory and consumerism.

And finally, we would like to wish you a very merry Christmas. We had some excellent card designs from Claret students this year so we would like to share this one of Santa and his sleigh by Juan Reglero (Junior 2). Well done to everyone who took part.

Parent Meetings You can meet the teachers and discuss your child’s progress with them on 22nd December 2016 between 13.05h and 14.30h. Meetings will take place in the primary classrooms that we use for our lessons. You will receive a message from us with details of which rooms to go to. Reports can be viewed online via the portal.
