With so many avid readers in SEK, not surprisingly, many students have finished one or more of our library schemes and we have quite literally had to invent another scheme to keep up with the demand! Our new scheme is entitled “Books, books, books…”, and the students receive a bookmark with a quotation about reading for every 5 books that they read. We have also had to re-assess the books designated to each level as many students were not finding those available to them challenging enough. As a result, most of the books in our collection have now been moved down a level. This is fantastic and really reflects the high standard of SEK students. We have also been fortunate enough to receive a large donation of books from the Martínez Campos site, particularly novels for the Junior levels. May we remind you that each class has a designated library day once a week. Occasionally we are unable to provide the service if we have to cover classes, but if possible we try to give the students an opportunity to change their books later on in the week. Here are some examples of Reading Reviews from our youngest students, Pandas and Tigers.....

Gabriel’s Yellow class have taken on the Big Book Challenge for 2014. This year’s Theme is “Creepy House” and here they can be seen preparing to write a comic strip for the Big Book which will be printed and bound in June in time for students and parents to appreciate their hard work! Last year’s SEK entry was entitled “A Journey into the Imagination” and was written by students in Jan Byrne’s Yellow class. Jan’s Pandas have made some very amusing booklets in which you can change a person’s outfit!
