Term 3 Newsletter Dear Parents and Students, Welcome to our spring edition of the Newsletter! With the end of term already looming we hope our students have enjoyed the academic year and learned a lot of English! May we take this opportunity to remind you that the summer term ends on Wednesday 13th June, 2013 and, as always, parents will have the opportunity to meet with their children’s teachers to comment on their progress and get their final results. We will be sending out a more detailed letter in due course. You should have received information about the coming academic year’s Calendar and Folder competitions. As we outlined in our previous Newsletter, SEK students have been particularly successful in the competitions in the past, so we hope our students will be inspired to enter and hopefully we will have some more winners! Here are a few SEK hopefuls for the 2013/14 calendar! We wish them the best of luck!
You should also have received a letter about access to the British Council Portal and other interesting sites. If you are reading this e-publication for the first time, then it is a good sign! Please contact us if you have any difficulty accessing the sites. Similarly, If you need to speak to a teacher or to myself, do not hesitate to contact me on 660 467 459. Teacher-parent interviews can be arranged either at SEK or at the Martínez Campos site. You can also contact your child’s teacher directly through the Portal. I am available to speak to you on Mondays, Wednesdays from 12.00 p.m. - 15.00 p.m. and on Friday’s from 12.00 p.m.—15.00 p.m. and 18.00 p.m.—21.00 p.m. Jo Kay, SEK Co-ordinator joanne.kay@britishcouncil.es 660 467 459
June 2013 What’s On in the Classroom Most of our classes have had the opportunity to read some authentic children’s English literature throughout this academic year and have worked on various projects in relation to the book they have read. Finola’s Junior 2 class have really enjoyed the classic “Billy Elliot” by Melvin Burgess and they have participated in some thought-provoking class debates and produced some great written work. Cassie’s Junior 1 class have read “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl and the Yellows have been reading another Dahl classic: “Fantastic Mr Fox.” Jan’s Yellow class have also read Michael Morpugo`s “Red Eyes at Night”. The Red classes have been looking at some classic, traditional fairy tales. “Mixed Up Fairy Tales” by Hilary Robinson and Nick Sharratt…..is an unusual collection of traditional fairy tales that are quite literally all mixed up! The children have been able to read the original tale but also mix the stories up with different beginnings, middles and endings, and as an extension have also concocted some rather silly tales of their own! The Pink classes have been reading “Down by the Cool of the Pool” by Tony Mitton and Guy Parker-Rees. and the Tigers have enjoyed “Walking Through the Jungle” by Debbie Harter. We have included some examples of the children’s work for your enjoyment overleaf!

As we mentioned in our last news-letter, Jan’s Yellow students have collaborated in the making of a “Big Book”. The Book Binder has been to collect the different entries and will be putting the book together over the coming weeks. It will be available for parents and students to view on the last day of this term.
