At ISM a rigorous curriculum, coupled with highly qualified teaching professionals, form the foundations of our school. However, as our students approach adulthood and the allimportant final years at ISM, our sights are set on combining the joys of learning with a comprehensive activities programme that will provide exciting extra-curricular experiences. A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO EDUCATION Students are expected to work hard at their studies but to also develop their capabilities in all areas of school life. They will be presented with a wide range of opportunities to discover new talents, take part in individual and team based activities, explore travel opportunities, gain work experience and forge friendships with their peers. WHAT ARE A LEVELS? A Level or Advanced Level qualifications are highly valued by both universities and employers alike, and are amongst the most sought after and accepted secondary school certifications in the world. The majority of top private schools in the UK deliver the A Level programme as part of the UK government approved English National Curriculum. A Levels are a two year programme, undertaken in Years 12 and 13 (16 to 18 year old students). As opposed to other types of qualifications, A Level students choose the subjects they are most interested in and may likely excel in (typically choosing between 4 and 5 subjects during the first year of A Levels, and then narrowing it down to 3 to 4 subjects during the final year of the course). The A Level programme is academically challenging, exposing students to a wide breadth and depth of subject knowledge that is expected from university undergraduates. The programme is assessed on a mixture of coursework delivered throughout the two years and final examinations.

EXTRA CURRICULAR A Level students take part in a rich extra-curricular programme, aiming to develop their skills and enthusiasm for outdoor life. Activities such as golf, kayaking and climbing form part of an array of available options. In addition, top quality curriculumrelated residential trips are organised to complement the programme and enhance the knowledge of the world of our students.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S INTERNATIONAL AWARD Over 7 million young people worldwide have taken up this challenging award, enabling them to: - Make positive contributions to their communities - Meet and overcome a range of challenges UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE ISM recognises that the ultimate goal of our A Level students is to gain a university placement. The fact that A Level certification is unsurpassed in its worldwide recognition by universities is an obvious advantage. However, the path to a successful university application needs to start from the programme’s outset. Our school’s Sixth Form Coordinator and Careers Advisor will work with our students to develop a plan aimed at not only shaping the final decision on the degree course and choice of university, but also in identifying those areas of a student’s profile that need to be developed in order to impress university Admissions Officers at the top universities. Further information on different universities is provided to ensure both parents and students make the right choices in university applications. Support is available from the school in completing and following up the progress of all university applications.

- Develop a set of life skills University Admissions Officers do attach great value to this widely recognised award as it provides a measure of a student’s commitment and perseverance.

ONE-TO-ONE LAPTOP PROGRAMME Every A Level student will receive an Apple Laptop computer, which will serve as an important tool to be used during classroom studies and investigative work.
