Within Covid 19 yet again causing disruption to all our club’s main annual activities, it was lovely that, despite all of the headaches it has caused, we were able to restart some of our club’s activities again.
With a return of just the odd show, our congratulations must go to David & Lesley Sapsed on winning the Championship at The Great Yorkshire Show with Heathbrow Koko Star who, a month later, followed that with the Championship at Edenbridge Show, the only summer show to actually take place within our club area.
The Society’s ‘Virtual Show’ has proved a big hit during these times and some of our club’s breeders have done particularly well with the Bailey family from Mixbury Hall having fantastic success for the second year in a row. This year they won Male & Reserve Overall Champion with stock bull Tilbrook Frank and Reserve Female Champion with their heifer calf Mixbury Hall Millie, no mean feat at all with the overwhelming number of entries.
In September we were indebted to the time given by Vicki and Jimmy Woods of the Popes Herd to come and judge our Herd competition and it was lovely to see a good entry from across our area. We would very much thank Vicki for doing the judging over 4 days early in September.

October saw us come together for the first time in two years and it was a pleasure to host the Herd competition awards presentation here at Sacombe. After a walk around the herd, we were treated to a fabulous lunch ably cooked by my mother Judy and Neil Hamp before the presentation of the awards.
Congratulations to one of our members Simon Key from the Key herd in Norfolk on the honour of judging October’s Stirling Bull sales. By all accounts you did a great job Simon, and your father would of been very proud of you.
Melton Mowbray Market hosted a multi breed calf show and despite not having sole breed classes Simmentals were well represented by our club with the club’s Calf Show trophies being presented here. Well done to Paul & Sharrie Cade, David & Lesley Sapsed and James & Rachael Griffin.
Heading to the close of the year the Society held its first Next Gen sale at Carlisle market. Special mention must go to our members James & Rachael Griffin who made the incredibly generous gesture of donating the entire sale proceeds of one of their entries to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Charity. The heifer, Hemingford Lancome went on to sell for 3000gns adding further to the money already raised by the family for this incredible charity. The Griffin’s also sold Hemingford L’Oreal for 4800gns making it a very memorable and emotional trip to Carlisle for them.
I look forward to more club events and a slightly fuller calendar come 2022 but for now keep enjoying your Simmentals.
