letter from the editor W
ow! This past semester has been a complete whirlwind but I wouldn’t have had it any other way! I know every past Editor-In-Chief starts with “I can’t believe I am sitting here writing this” but I truly can’t believe I am... It was my dream to work on CLUTCH before I even came to Florida State, so saying thank you to my amazing team of directors for creating the best issue we have ever seen! I am absolutely honored to be the Editor-In-Chief of such an amazing team of directors. From our early morning photo-shoots, to our late Monday night meetings, I wouldn’t have wanted to spend my semester with anyone else! To our readers, we hope that you will enjoy CLUTCH Magazine’s revival! Our idea behind this issue’s creative process was to bring back all the best This idea also translated over to our photo-shoots when we picked our favorite trends from decades of the past! This letter wouldn’t have been complete without a special shout out to my right hand man and Creative Director – Mia Lepp – from random roommates in Ragans Hall, to not only my best friend but also the Grace Coddington to my Anna Wintour, I can’t image having embarked on this journey with anyone besides you. We hope you come to love this issue of CLUTCH as much as we do –

Spring 2015: ready to wear Simple, elegant silhouettes are this spring’s must have look by Hannah Ross
W
hat is more chic than
Imagine waking up in the morning and stepping into an Clare Waight Keller, the creative director of the designer label Chloé, transforms the modern woman into a romantic, French daydream with her Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear collection. Keller struck gold by sticking to simple silhouettes that bodices. Her modest designs show that less really is more. The whimsical lace dresses are balanced by nononsense denim work wear. Slightly wedged gladiator sandals, paired with minimal makeup, and well-kept
hair top off each look. Since most people can’t just pop into Saks and walk out with a $2,000 Chloé dress, Keller’s collection provides inspiration forhow to shop this spring season. Shopping for pieces that are minimal with clean cuts and neutral colors is the best way to achieve the Chloé look. This collection makes it possible to look free flowing while still being put together. With a hint of 70’s style, the Chloé spring collection dresses women in a style that is practical while remaining beautiful.

A Little brown Bag An Interview with Handbag Designer, Ceri Hoover By Pierce Gillette
Last
April, in Thomasville, Georgia my mother and I found a beautiful brown bag. Made with raw leather and impeccable out who created this beautiful purse. The bag was the Cooper Satchel and the designer is Ceri Hoover. Ceri is a designer based out of Nashville, whose company, Ceri Hoover Bags, has exploded since its birth in 2013. Originally an interior designer, Ceri had the idea to make a clutch after sewing a raw leather pillow and the rest has been history. With many readers who are interested in starting their own business ventures, I contacted Ceri for an interview and she was more than happy to oblige.
PG: You were an interior designer before venturing into handbags. What inspired you to
CH: I was manufacturing home decor products and obsessing over interior design (still do). I realized one day when making a cowhide pillow that if I folded it over, it would make a clutch. I wore it out and people seemed to like it. I knew I wanted a handbags organically made their way into my world.
PG: CH: Mostly through interior picks, but really, inspiration is everywhere. I try to keep my eyes open at all times hoping to come across a new design or color based on something that grabs my attention, whether it be an outdoor landscape or a vase design at an antique shop.
PG: What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as an

you have for the Ceri Hoover the most rewarding experience
CH: The most challenging for me has been keeping up. The year because we had no systems in place to manage production. Luckily, my customers were willing to wait, but sometimes
CH: I’ve always been an entrepreneur so I knew I wanted to grow. I have my sights set on the Nordstroms and Steven Alans of the world, and I’m thrilled to be selling to 7 For All Mankind already!
“It is a huge compliment when someone you admire chooses to carry something you created.” backorders and production issues can kill the success of a small business. The most rewarding by far is having fellow designers carry my designs. It is a huge compliment when someone you admire chooses to carry something you created.
PG: Were you scared starting
PG: Many of our readers are interested in starting their own business ventures. Do you have
CH: Hire a business consultant point enough. I would have dodged a lot of curve balls if I had the direction needed from the beginning.

bye-bye black wardrobe (why it's time to break up)
by Isabella Bravo
Oh, monochrome; the most reliable, timeless trend to grace the fashion industry. It’s truly a wardrobe’s best versatile pieces. But it’s springtime blooming and life is teeming with color and change. Celebrate it with the transformative decision to add promise you’ll feel happier (and maybe even hotter) if you take my advice. I’m not going to act like my wardrobe hasn’t been all types of Fifty Shades of Grey, because it totally has. It’s my safety net when I’m at a loss for time and I always know the chances of picking a
piece that won’t match the other is slim. Some people make their monochrome wardrobe ‘a fashion crutch.’ If you want to celebrate a ‘new year, new you’ (forgive the cliché), or rather, the amazing individual you’ve always been, unique beyond comprehension, peach that make you smile. Try for a powder blue cardigan that makes you feel at ease when you shrug it on. Then, if you want to feel powerful and tailored, those edgy neutral ensembles will be there. Wear them with pride. That being said, you are not neutral, nor should your wardrobe be. Stand out. Celebrate! Dance in periwinkle pants!

a must read for the ambitious woman by Laura Durkalec You wake up every morning is as black as your fur, leather, and denim-clad wardrobe. You are a GIRLBOSS and you know it. One particular girl, among many of the fashionforward go-getters of this world can relate. Her name is Sophia Amoruso. She is the founder and CEO of NastyGal clothing and author of #GIRLBOSS. NastyGal is a $100 million with and
clothing, accessories, shoes for women.
In her book, Amoruso separates her advice into chapters titled, “So You Want to Be a #GIRLBOSS,” “Shitty Jobs Saved My Life,” “Money Looks Better in the Bank Than on Your Feet,” and many more. Her wit, straightforward blunt
advice and conversational tone will make it seem like you are talking to your best friend. Her tangible advice is something that will stick and is not easily forgettable. An important point that Amoruso makes is that success is not based on how well you did in high school or college. Which is something that is easily engrained in most of our generation’s brain. Through her novel, you’ll understand when she says it is more about “trusting your instincts and following your gut, knowing which rules to follow and which rules to break.” Throughout the book, there are also additional mini-bios at the end of some chapters from other GIRLBOSS’s alike. When reaching the end of the novel, you will have absorbed a bountiful amount of advice from many gals that have proved themselves to be very successful.

today’s lesson: 3 DIY Face Masks! by Natalie Campion
I
love to pamper my skin and doing it in the comfort of my own home is an added bonus. These 3 masks are my personal favorites due to how easy all of the ingredients in your pantry right now, which helps maintain your college budget. Also, there are many substitutes for each of the products so you can mix and match according to your own preference. Get creative!
The Aspirin mask: Best for acne-prone skin Ingredients: 1-3 Aspirin 1 Tablespoon of natural coconut oil 1 Tablespoon of warm honey Steps: 1. Crush the aspirin and mix in a few drops of water to form a paste 2.Add the honey & coconut oil into the paste as well 3. Apply to the face and allow to dry for 10 minutes 4. Rinse with lukewarm water
The Juice Mask: best for oily skin Ingredients 1 Tablespoon of lemon juice 2 egg whites 2 Tablespoons of honey 1 Cup of strawberries Steps: 1 .Combine all ingredients into a blender 2. Blend until the consistency of the ingredients is a thick paste 3. Apply to the face and allow to dry for 15-20 minutes 4. Rinse with cold water
The sugar exfoliator: for all skin types Ingredients 2 Tablespoons of sugar 3 Tablespoons of warm water Steps: 1.Stir the sugar into warm water until it melts. This is essential because if the sugar does not completely melt it will tear your skin. 2.Apply to the face in a circular motion rubbing away from the face 3.Rinse with warm water

The main idea behind contouring this shape is to add the appearance of angles to an otherwise soft face. To do this, start by sweeping your bronzer of choice under your cheekbones straight back towards the ear, then curve upward along your hairline. Elegance is not Dead by Natalia Cabrera
T
he chillier seasons shouldn’t be the only reason to show less skin. Women often choose clothing to try and make them what we strive for. The problem is that many women build their wardrobes to appeal to others, not themselves. Before choosing what clothes to wear or buy, women should recognize how beautiful and sexy they already are. The clothes don’t make the woman, the woman makes the clothes. The clothes don’t complement the woman, the woman complements the clothes. I’m not asking you to burn your favorite slinky LBD,
but rather I’m convincing you to show others how sexy you are, not how sexy your clothes are. For example, pairing a pleated and your favorite strappy nude heels is equally as sexy as highwasted, cheeky, pleather shorts with a crop top and wedges. right and complements you, it’ll give you one less thing to worry about. Instead of having to religiously tug on your shorts in because your crop top is the best possible you.

“MURSE NO MORE” A MEN’S GUIDE TO TOTES
I know, I know, you’re probably thinking, “A tote bag for men? That’s totally a murse.” That’s where you’re wrong – tote bags are not only convenient accessories for men in our contemporary society, but have become a complete staple in menswear for everyday life. With their growth in popularity, these bags have been gracing
SHOULDER BAGS
by Michael Perberdy
For some, this bag will push you out of your comfort zone – it’s a bit on the “murse” side. I’ve said before, we’re living in a contemporary society and it’s time to set aside those insecurities and accept menswear for all that it is. The shoulder bag goes great with a casual blazer and button up – make sure to play with some fun color pallets – and throw that bag on your shoulder!
CASUAL BAGS
The tote for all men in every society. Wear this with whatever you want, whenever you want. Dress it up, or dress it down. Casual totes come in materials of all kinds, and come in designs and colors. Find a trendy camo bag with some accent colors, a bright eye-catching bag, or even a solid black bag to carry around all of your essentials
TRAVEL BAGS This is where I find myself the most – a good travel bag proves to be a guy’s best friend.
