Fur has made an entrance again this year, and it is bigger, better, and wilder than ever! This season it is all about comfortability, and oversized, layering and puffy are just a few keywords that will be used a lot to describe the trend for this FW 14/15. Would you wear one? Or you wouldn’t want anyone to find one in your closet? A fur coat or vest can complete your entire outfit. It is a real statement piece, and you know what? It’s the best way to keep you warm during those cold winter days that are ahead of us! Alexander McQueen, Pucci, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and Diane von Furstenberg are just a few among the many designers that have used fur in their collections. They took their inspiration from everywhere, combining bold with natural colors and pastels with darker ones. Patterns and textures were different everywhere, which means that there is enough choice for everyone! There is of course one question: Are you going for the real thing, or do you keep it with the fake ones? With society changing, and especially the perceptions of people, designers really need to think about how and if they would want to use real fur in their collections, and the effect this might have on their brand. Fortunately, many designers have decided (Stella McCartney being one of them) over the years to leave out the real fur from their collections due to animal cruelty. And just a tiny detail: fake fur also means lower pricing! It then becomes much more affordable for a broader audience to purchase it, and we are all so happy about that! Of course it is great to see all those beautiful coats on the runaway, but we would like to know how the trend is then being translated into the style of ordinary people.
