In Mumbai, a misdelivered lunchbox brings together two very different people - a neglected housewife and a grumpy, solitary widower on the verge of retirement - in this funny and touching comedy-drama from first-time writerdirector Ritesh Batra. Whether it’s the cooking of a meal, the reading of a letter, or the riding of a crowded train, the film’s small moments culminate in big impact. In a word: enchanting. TIFF

A STORY OF CHILDREN AND FILM (PG) Dir: Mark Cousins United Kingdom 2013 106m
A Story of Children and Film is a personal and poetic essay exploring what cinema tells us about childhood, and what childhood tells us about cinema, by reference to movies from all around the world. It is the world’s first movie about kids in global cinema. It’s a passionate and poetic portrait of the adventure of childhood: its surrealism, loneliness, fun, destructiveness and stroppiness - as seen through 53 great films from 25 countries. It includes classic movies like E.T. - the Extra-Terrestrial and The Red Balloon, as well as dozens of masterpieces (many directed by women) that are almost unknown.

With English Subtitles
Dir: Matt Wolf United States 2014 78m
Dir: Paul Grimault France 1980 84m
Starring: Tom Hardy
Dir: Lukas Moodysson Sweden 2013 102m
Based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen and written by Jacques Prévert, the Prix Louis Delluc-winning The King and The Mockingbird is regarded as a masterpiece of French animation. The hated king is in love with the painting of a beautiful shepherdess, but when she runs away with the chimney sweep from another painting, a wild chase across frames ensues… [In English] Tickets £3.50 for all shows
On the eve of a career-crowning moment, we follow Ivan’s journey driving from Wales to London, and see how one mistake has caused his hitherto firmly focused and controlled life to slowly and completely fall apart. Both Ivan’s brute determination to regain control over his life and his stubborn refusal to engage fully with the emotional reality, are combined perfectly in Hardy’s taut performance. Steven Knight’s direction, too, is as resolutely spartan as his central character. Shot in its entirety over eight days, and never leaving the interior of the car, Knight’s film nevertheless succeeds in creating a gripping atmosphere of tightly wound tension. BFI
Starring: Mira Barkhammar, Mira Grosin
Based on Jon Savage’s book ‘Teenage: The Creation of Youth’ and skillfully constructed from stunning black-andwhite footage from the beginning of the 20th century up to the end of the 1940s, Teenage captures milestones in youth culture from some of the brightest and darkest moments of recent history and reflecting on the concept of the ‘teenager’ which grew in post World War II America. From the ban of child labour, the roaring twenties and the flappers, to the bright young things in London, Hitler Youth, and the fever of jitterbug dancing in the US, the film’s teenagers find a thousand different ways to escape adult oppression and influence society, culture and politics.
A warm and moving drama comedy about young outsiders set in Stockholm 1982. Bobo, Klara and Hedvig are three 13 year old girls who roam the streets and form a punk band despite having no instruments and being told by everyone that punk is dead. With vibrant period detail and fantastic performances from the young girls, Swedish director Lukas Moodysson perfectly captures the feeling of being young and invincible in the early 80s. A joyous celebration of youth, friendship and rebellion. Rosanna Nordrup, Cnema Sweden
Starring: Thandie Newton, Chiwetel Ejiofor
Nigerian-born British playwright Biyi Bandele translates Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s powerful prize-winning novel of the same name into an emotional drama that gives voice to personal stories of the indignities and atrocities suffered during the Nigerian Civil War. Set in the late ’60s, the film’s main characters, Olanna, her sister Kainene and Olanna’s revolutionary boyfriend, Odenigbo, are forced to make bold choices in order to navigate the complex social terrain mapped out by Nigeria’s ethnic, political and religious divide, and survive.

CONTINUING INTO APRIL
“This imaginative and delightful film doesn’t think outside the box so much as operate on another astral plane.” The Guardian
Set against the magnificent Sligo landscape, John Michael McDonagh’s second feature shares a leading man and a similar dark sense of humour with his debut, the hugely successful The Guard. Father James Lavelle is the priest in a small rural parish. One day, while hearing confession, he is told that he is going to be murdered... in one week. It’s a week in which Father James struggles to understand his death sentence as the day draws near, searching for hope and faith amongst his motley collection of parishioners - a community of lost souls and, it seems, potential murder suspects. Calvary is a complex and challenging work, part philosophical treatise, part murder mystery, with a fiercely black vein of humour lacing all the elements together.
THE STRANGE COLOUR OF YOUR BODY’S TEARS
A sci-fi thriller about a medical engineer and an astronaut working frantically to save themselves after an accident leaves them spinning hopelessly adrift through space. A technical jaw-dropper and a breath-taking white-knuckle survival tale.
