In 1981, a KGB agent decides to leak damaging documents to the West. He opts not to exploit the usual channels. Pierre is an engineer drawn into the intrigue as a go-between. The intelligence is discussed at the highest levels, but it’s the agent and the engineer - and their families - that feel its true effect.
The setting is 1844, and though the era of the samurai is fading, an honest government official covertly enlists 13 swordsmen to assassinate a sadistic young lord before he can seize more power. With the clock ticking, the assassins lay a deadly trap for the lord and his army of bodyguards, culminating in a climactic battle scene that lasts a breathless 45 minutes - one of the bloodiest, most magnificent swordfights ever put to film. With echoes of every samurai classic imaginable, Miike steals the show through sheer spectacle and old-fashioned samurai action of the highest order. Florida Film Festival
The rise and fall of the legendary indie label is a classic tale of rock’n’roll excess in which founder Alan McGee was the leading party animal. McGee is one of those interviewed at length in a definitive documentary that salutes the insanity and the lasting influence of a label behind some of the most unforgettable music of our time from Oasis, Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub and My Bloody Valentine. Fresh interviews are mixed with concert footage that includes the legendary Oasis concert at Knebworth.

With The Station Agent and The Visitor writer-director Tom McCarthy has established himself as a filmmaker with a real knack for creating beautifully fleshed-out characters, full of humour and believable flaws. He continues to impress here with this story of a smalltown attorney who thinks he can make some easy money by taking on the guardianship of an elderly client but doesn't count on the arrival of the client's wayward grandson.
A gang of hooded teenage tearaways get more than they bargain for when an ETlike creature plummets through the roof of a car and turns out to be the opening salvo of a fully-fledged alien invasion! A sparkling directing debut from Joe Cornish of Channel 4 TV’s Adam and Joe fame.

Francis and Marie are young, hip Montreal natives; he is sensitive, intellectual and gay, while she is witty and stylish. They are good friends - but all that changes as soon as the gorgeous Nicolas arrives on the scene, and sparks a fierce contest for his affections. Precocious 21-year-old auteur Xavier Dolan writes, directs and stars in this stylish French-Canadian love-triangle, brimming with sexual tension.
Coppola’s hallucinatory masterpiece has been painstakingly restored by his own Zoetrope studios under his close supervision. This iconic film about the hell of war has captivated audiences for decades, so let your senses be assaulted by the power of its unforgettable sequences.
A hundred years ago the British Antarctic Expedition led by Captain Scott set out on its ill-fated race to the South Pole. Joining Scott on board the Terra Nova was official photographer and cinematographer Herbert Ponting. Ponting filmed almost every aspect of the expedition: the scientific work, life in camp, the local wildlife - including the characterful Adélie penguins and most importantly, the preparations for the assault on the Pole. In 1924 Ponting reedited his film into this remarkable feature and this film has been magnificently restored by the BFI National Archive.

Joe Dunthorne's delightful novel "Submarine," in which an eccentrically gifted 15-year-old muses about school, girls, movies and life in general, is the kind of book that almost never is made into a film of matching quality. This movie is a sublime exception. The Hollywood Reporter
What could a remake of an old John Wayne western have to offer? Two words: Coen Brothers. In their fresh take on the 1968 novel that inspired the earlier film, Hailee Steinfeld stars as a 14-year-old girl who enlists an alcoholic U.S. marshal to help her avenge her father’s murder.
Guillermo del Toro, producer of The Orphanage, presents yet another spinechilling frightfest, this time about twin sisters who both suffer from a degenerative eye disease. Laced with atmosphere and spiked with sublime moments of shock, Julia's Eyes proves that the Spaniards continue to make the most stylish thrillers around.

Four films from a key figure in post-war documentary, John Krish. The Elephant Will Never Forget (1953, 10min) bids farewell to a way of life represented by London’s trams; They Took Us to the Sea (1961, 26min) and Our School (1962, 28min) look at the opportunities offered to youngsters by a nation slowly emerging from years of austerity; while I Think They Call Him John (1964, 28min) is a deeply affecting account of the decidedly un-swinging life of an elderly widower.
Nathaniel discovers that hiding among the books he inherits from his Aunt are famous characters like Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Little Red Riding Hood. But if they leave the library, they will disappear forever! When his parents start selling them, Nate must battle a witch and a greedy bookseller to save his new friends.

Set in a remote village in the Serre mountains of Calabria, this almost silent film feels at first like a documentary that has been edited to create a story. It is a poetic vision of the revolving cycles of life and nature and the unbroken traditions of a timeless place. Its story has no one hero or focus, but instead passes the baton from an elderly shepherd, to a baby goat to a tree. It makes for a compelling and cinematic narrative. Sight and Sound
