Charley Thompson is a 15-year-old who craves a home, food on the table and a regular school, but as the son of an affectionate, but undependable single father, such stability is hard to find. Charley takes a summer job with a horse trainer, and develops a strong attachment for an old racehorse named ‘Lean on Pete’. Through Charley’s journey, an escape that turns into a quest, director Haigh conveys the character of the Pacific Northwest – diners, trucks and vast, blinding vistas – while retaining the subtle observation and emotional weight of his previous films. Borderlines Film Festival

Broke, with nothing but her cat to her name, Paula is back in Paris after a long absence. She’s determined to make a new start and she’ll do it with style and panache. Set in the Parisian Left-Bank neighbourhood and made with an almost entirely female crew, this loose-limbed, character-focused film is a celebration of a red-haired free spirit that, however, doesn’t skimp on life’s darker sides. Belfast Film Festival

WOODFALL FILMS TRIBUTE
MAY 2018
In the spring of ’68, Jean Luc Godard is enjoying the early days of his marriage to actress Anne Wiazemsky, star of his new film, La Chinoise. But when the film is met with complete indifference, Godard sinks in profound self-examination, all the while getting caught in the political tension of the time, and slowly losing touch with both his audience and his wife. Filled with playful tributes to Godard’s own work, Redoubtable moves from light comedy to the anarchic swings of both Godard and May ’68.
