The third collaboration of Keira Knightley with acclaimed director Joe Wright, following the award-winning box office successes Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, is a bold, theatrical new vision of the epic love story, adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s timeless novel by Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love). The story powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart. As Anna (Knightley) questions her happiness and marriage, change comes to surround her. Toronto
Remarkable directing-screenwriting duo John Hillcoat and Nick Cave (The Proposition) are back with a gangster movie set in the prohibition era. The film tells the tale of the famous Bondurant brothers, whose uneventful bootlegging trade in a remote corner of Virginia one day comes up against the dogged resistance of special agent Rakes. No explosions! No threat to humanity! And no superheroes, unless you count Meryl Streep. She reteams with The Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel for a comedy about mildmannered Kay (Streep) and buttoned-up Arnold (Tommy Lee Jones), who try to recharge their 30-year marriage via couples counselling with therapist Steve Carell. Time Magazine
Paris was midnight. Now we are roaming the sun-dappled streets of Trastevere and climbing the Spanish Steps, where Woody Allen composes his hilarious and star-studded love letter to Rome. Alec Baldwin is a writer revisiting the scenes of an old love; Jesse Eisenberg is a young man torn between his girlfriend and femme fatale Ellen Page and Woody himself is an eccentric opera director who finds an unlikely new star to promote. To Rome with Love finds Woody Allen in a merry mood: it’s a breezy, kaleidoscopic comedy about amore, infidelity, the fickleness of fame and the strange consequences of singing in the shower.
Adapted from George V. Higgins's novel, this is a gangster film with guns, bloodshed, a heist and consequences, but it also serves as a metaphor for the whole of America - from the top down. Directed by Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), it sees Brad Pitt play a no-nonsense enforcer (i.e. hitman) on the case of poker heist gone wrong. Darkly funny and savagely violent (often both at the same time), it's been wowing the critics wherever it’s played.
Starring: Francois Cluzet, Omar Sy
An intricately structured tale from Brick director Rian Johnson that's a must for fans of smart-yet-thrilling sci-fi. It takes place in a future where the mob uses outlawed time travel technology to send targets into the past, where specialized hitmen known as “Loopers” do their work. The twist comes when Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who plays one of said loopers) attempts to carry out a hit on a target he quickly realizes is his future self (played by Bruce Willis)...
In a film that according to many should have won the Palme d’Or this year at Cannes, Denis Lavant plays mysterious Mr. Oscar who, during the course of the day, takes on various identities in a bizarre show captured by an unseen camera. Bad boy of French film Leos Carax triumphs after a 13-year break with a delightful and provocative spectacle that betrays a sense of awe for Paris, for classic films, and perhaps even for Kylie Minogue’s vocals.
Pensioners from across the planet compete in the World over 80s Table Tennis Championships in Inner Mongolia. Eight players with 703 years between them guide us through the world of Veteran sports. An exploration of the hope, regret and immediacy of growing old.
Starring: Toby Jones
In the 1970s, a British sound technician is brought to Italy to work on the sound effects for a gruesome horror film. His nightmarish task slowly takes over his psyche, driving him to confront his own past. Berberian Sound Studio is many things: an anti-horror film, a stylistic tour de force, and a dream of cinema. As such, it offers a kind of pleasure that is rare in films, while recreating in a highly original way the pleasures of Italian horror cinema.

Aurora likes to frequent the casino, while Pilar spends her day doing good deeds. But turning back the clock fifty years unexpectedly brings the women together in an era when Portugal was still a major colonizer. At the 2012 Berlinale, this playful, original, subtly romantic picture took the Alfred Bauer Prize for most innovative work. Karlovy
A massive box-office hit in its home country, shattering all the records, Untouchable tells the story of the unlikely friendship between stuffy, wheelchair-bound millionaire Philippe and his newly-hired, streetwise Senegalese caretaker Driss, who applied for the job with the hopes of being rejected so he could stay on welfare. These two men from opposite ends of the social spectrum grow close as they begin to see the world through each other’s eyes. With a great chemistry between the two leads, this heart-warming crowd-pleaser is a winning, feel-good comedy.
