Choo-Choo History If you are going to Chattanooga, you must go to the Chattanooga Choo Choo. The Chattanooga Choo Choo used to be a train station in Chattanooga. Its historic terminal was opened in 1909 for 1.5 million dollars. It was designed by Donn Barber, an architectural student in New York. Iconic glass domes and beautiful gardens were incorporated into the architecture. Every train heading to the south would pass through when it was open. Over 50 passenger trains would pass through every day. Presidents Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Franklin Roosevelt all passed through. It was originally named Terminal Station. This was until Glenn Miller wrote and sang his song “Chattanooga Choo Choo”. The station was soon renamed after the song. Due to increasing popularity in faster modes of travel and decreasing popularity in travel by oldfashioned trains, the terminal was shut down in 1970. The Hotel

Since its closing, the Chattanooga Choo Choo has become a famous hotel and tourist attraction in downtown Chattanooga. Guests could either stay in one of the 363 guestrooms, or they could stay in one of the 48 original pullman train cars. The Tivoli

Cade M.

Watch a gut busting comedy, see a beautiful ballet, enjoy your favorite concert...all in a large, incredibly designed theater with comfortable seats, a state of the art sound system, and a large balcony. All this can be enjoyed at the Chattanooga Tivoli theater. Located downtown, the theater has enjoyed lots of business for about 90 years now. In that time, it has seen stars of the screen, the horn, and the dance preform on its stage. From movies to concerts, the Tivoli has shown nearly everything. The Tivoli truly brings plays and shows to life. If you’re in Chattanooga, you cannot miss this historic site.

The Tivoli was built from 1919-1921. It opened on March 19, 1921. The cost of building the Tivoli was about $750,000 It was one of the first buildings in the South to have air conditioning, making it an instant success. It was originally a movie theater. However, when more modern theaters began being built, it stopped showing movies. The last movie it showed, Snow White and the Three Stooges, played on August 17, 1961. the Tivoli closed on that same year, and reopened about 3 years later as a theater. Many concerts were shown at this time, and stars of the day like Luis Armstrong, Helen Hayes, and Mae Murray were playing, singing, and acting at the Tivoli. In 1973, Congress declared the Tivoli a National Historic Site. On June 3, 1987, the Tivoli closed for renovations. It reopened on March 29, 1989, and has been showing plays, concerts, and ballets ever since. So, why should you visit the Tivoli? It shows plays, ballets, and concerts that you might be interested in. the Renaissance– type design of the Tivoli is certainly worth seeing, and the seats are comfortable. There isn’t a bad seat in the house, and the sound sys-

tem is incredible. Despite the fact that movies are the more popular choice these days, the Tivoli is still a fun and unforgettable destination! In conclusion, if you’re in Chattanooga and are looking for a good time and a memory, visit the Tivoli. The tech is state of the art, the design is beautiful, and the plays, concerts, and ballets are all excellent. My sister and I have both been to the Tivoli quite a few times, and I enjoyed it every time I went. We have also been on the backstage side of things, providing ballets and concerts, and the dressing rooms are great too. The Tivoli is definitely one of the best destinations in Chattanooga!

Chickamauga Battlefield It is the late summer of 1863, General Braxton Bragg of the Tennessee Confederate Army and General William Rosecrans of the Union Army of the Cumberland are waiting and planning their strategy. On September 18th, the Confederates attempted to cross Chickamauga Creek, and were stopped by the Union, and fighting broke out. By the morning of September 19th, the little skirmish had grown into a full-blown war. The battle raged on until September 20th, when General George Thomas gathered the Union troops and withdrew from the battlefield, and the Confederates reigned victorious. By the time the battle was over, over 35,000 people had been killed, injured or captured. The National Park was founded on August 19th, 1890. From that point, it’s gathered several people that want to learn more about the Civil War, or just want to enjoy the scenery. The Chickamauga Battlefield is a great attraction to visit, with several nice trails for walking and biking with beautiful scenery. The attraction also has a lot of educational value, teaching visitors about the great Civil War battle that took place there. There is a visitor’s center with all you need to know about the battle, showing you facts such as what they used in the battle, what supplies they carried with them, and a full map showing the strategies that the two sides took as the grueling battle carried on. The center contains a movie theater that shows a short 26 minute film called “The Campaign of Chattanooga: Death Knell for the Confederacy” shown throughout the day. There is a bookstore that contains several books about the Civil War, and a gun collection showing guns used from the Revolutionary War all the way to World War 1. The center also contains maps visitors may want to grab if they plan on taking the trails. Along the trails there are several monuments and signs describing the different fights, units, and people during the battle. There is also a tall stone tower that was built shortly after the end of the Civil War. Several leftover cannons and cannonballs can be found around the park, and if one’s lucky enough they might just find a bullet or a water canister used by the soldiers. The visitor center is located at 3370 Lafayette Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. It is open every day from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

CHATTANOOGA: BEST CITY EVER Olivia K.

Chattanooga, Tennessee was founded in 1816 . When people hear the name, they may be unaware of the beauty of the city. September edition of Outside Magazine voted Chattanooga “Best City Ever” according to the votes of the magazine’s poll. Chattanooga won in both 2011 and 2015. Graham Averill, the author of the article on Chattanooga, said, “Two days in the city should be enough to convince you to make the move.”

There

are many things to do in Chattanooga area, both indoors and outside. Graham Averill visited many of the outdoor attractions and scenic sites. Because of its close proximity to both mountains and lakes, Chattanooga offers a variety of outdoor activities such as biking, hiking, climbing, swimming, paddle boarding, and skiing...and these activities draw visitors from all over the globe. Much of the Chattanooga Riverfront has been developed with these activities in mind. There are many places to rent and launch paddle boards and bikes mixed in with upscale shops and restaurants. In addition, the lakes and mountains provide excellent views of our city. Tourism has grown because there is so much to do and see. There are many places to go climbing or bouldering in Chattanooga, also. There are indoor gyms and natural rock beside the river and in the mountains. Gear (helmets, crash pads, ropes. Harnesses, etc.) can be easily rented and/or bought at local outdoor and climbing shops. The views and activities are two reasons that Chattanooga got voted “Best City Ever” for the Outside magazine both years that Chattanooga was entered and surveyed. The Pumpkin Patch

Jack S.

I have been going to the Pumpkin Patch playground on Signal Mountain since I was a toddler. It was such a big part of my childhood and even today, nothing has changed. Giant slides, fun play areas, climbing walls, swings, tires, ziplines...it is tons of fun for kids of all ages. It is one of the biggest play area for kids in the region. It is free to enter and it is tons of fun. History: The Signal Mountain Community knew they wanted a community playground. They realized they needed more money to complete this project, so with the help of many people they raised enough to money. From April 24-28, 1996 people came from everywhere to work on this project and with this help it was finished. For 19 years kids have come to this location to have fun and with updating and repairs the pumpkin patch will live on. The Pumpkin Patch represents community because everyone came together to create it and everyone comes together to enjoy it. Visit this playground to see what true community means on your visit to Chattanooga.

The TVRM is also great for people from the previous generation because they are often interested in vintage things such as the train equipment you can find at this museum. The admission is relatively cheap, with an adult ticket coming in at $17 and a child ticket at $11. Rail lines in Chattanooga first showed up in 1850 when the Western and Atlantic Railroads arrive there. Through the next few decades, Chattanooga quickly became a vital railroad hub to the United States. Chattanooga was a very strategic point in the Civil War because of its locomotive presence. The Tennessee Railroad Museum was created in 1961 by a small preservation group who began to preserve, restore, and operate vintage railway equipment from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Over time, a museum was formed by these local residents. The Southern Railway became a very generous donator by providing vintage train cars, tracks for the trains to operate on, and more. This has led to the modern day version of the TVRM. Everybody should come to the TVRM for many exciting reasons when you are in Chattanooga. Teens and young adults should experience this museum to learn about Chattanooga history and how important trains were to it. This museum also makes learning this very fun and easy because of the exciting train ride and interactive structure of it. People of the older generation will also love the fascinating information they can discover at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. Sources: MRS WILLIAMSBURG, 8 Feb. 2013. Web. 15 Sept. 2016. Chickamauga Battlefield Nash

I will never forget my fifth grade field trip to the Chickamauga Battlefield. When we got there, we watched a thirty minute video about the battle of Chickamauga. Although the video was kind of gruesome and bloody, it stuck in my mind forever. . We took the busses around the battlefield and stopped at famous people’s graves and markers. Then, we went to this HUGE tower and climbed to the top. It was exciting to learn about history that took place so close to Chattanooga and influenced the Civil War . No trip to Chattanooga would be complete without a trip to learn some of the history of this area.

The history of this place is incredible. As the name states, Chickamauga Battlefield is a battlefield. It is the site of the worst Union loss in the Civil War. After the Tullahoma Campaign, Major General Rosecrans of the Union army pushed General Bragg and his Confederate troops out of the city of Chattanooga and into Georgia. Bragg was determined to retake Chattanooga as his own, Bragg followed the Union troops north. He brushed with Rosecrans’ army on September 18th and it resulted in a skirmish that turned into a battle. Bragg assaulted the Union soldiers heavily, but their line held. After the fighting resumed the next morning, eight brigades from the Army of North Virginia led by General Longstreet exploited a hole in the Union defense and drove off a third of the Northern soldiers including Maj. Gen. Rosecrans. Disaster was kept at bay by General George Thomas by holding Horseshoe Ridge against the Confederates. The battle field became a site to honor “not to honor one army, but both” on September 19, 1895. Before that, two men who had fought in the battle, Boynton and Van Deveer, met a local family and pur-

chased Minié-balls from their daughter and scouted the land with thoughts of preserving it. In 1888 the site mapping had started. In 1890 the charter was granted, and the association was organized. On August 19, the president signed the bill establishing the battlefield as a park. Two reasons why you should go to the Chickamauga Battlefield are that it has so much history behind it and you can learn a lot just by visiting. It is also a great open place to take your children to run around and play. No visit to Chattanooga would be complete without a visit to one of the local places that is full of history. THE READ HOUSE

Sara Jane

The Read House, a lovely hotel located in Chattanooga, is a very popular tourist attraction in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Read House is very close, within walking distance, of some of Chattanooga’s top attractions. Inside the Read House is their award-winning steakhouse, Porters, and a very popular Starbucks. Ever since I was little, my father would take me inside the Starbucks to get a hot chocolate. The Read House appears nice on the outside and on the inside the Read House is magnificently beautiful. Right when you walk through the doors, there are comfortable sofas and chairs, two beautiful chandeliers, a grand piano, and more. There is also a shop inside the Read House that features wedding dresses. While walking around downtown, I would love to stop in front of the window, and see the season’s wedding dresses. There are many reasons you might want to visit the Read House. The Read House is located in the heart of downtown Chattanooga and is within walking distance of most of Chattanooga’s top tourist attractions. Some of these attractions are the Tennessee Riverwalk, Chattanooga Convention Center, AT&T Ballpark, Tennessee Aquarium and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The Read House hotel has also hosted several cultural icons such as Winston Churchill, Oprah Winfrey, Gary Cooper, and Al Capone. The hotel represents modern design and comfort of today but also includes classic Chattanooga charm. The Read House is also within a mile of great restaurants, shops, theaters, and museums. If you are interested in haunted locations, it is said that Room 311 is haunted by Annalisa Netherly. The Read House was designed by Holabird and Roche, an architectural firm from Chicago, and was originally built by George A. Fuller and the Company of Washington D.C.. John T. Read opened the original Read House in 1872, but sold the lease and furniture to his son Samuel R. Read in 1879. Much of the building was demolished in 1926, and the current building was built. The historical hotel was most recently renovated in 2004. The Read House is a tenstory red-brick building that features a one-story limestone base with storefront windows and terracotta detailing on the outside. The building was used as a Union soldier hospital during the Civil War in 1863. The hotel was one of the grand hotels built for the railroad-travelers of the 1920’s. Bibliography: "Amenities." Ruby Falls

Kaitlee R

Ruby Falls’ History The history of Ruby Falls dates back all the way to 1905. The Southern Railroad Company was forced to build a tunnel along the face of Lookout Mountain for one of its railroad lines. While doing so, they accidentally sealed off the natural entrance to the cave. At the time the cave was already being excavated by adventurers. After it got sealed off it became completely untouchable by the public. Leo Lambert was a local cave enthusiast who knew about the caves interesting history and devised a plan to open it back up to the public. He planned to build an elevator shaft and enter the cave from above. While drilling with a jackhammer, one worker felt a burst of air and called everyone over. Upon hours of investigation and exploration, they came across a 1,120 foot deep 145 foot underground waterfall. During his next exploration, Lambert took along his wife, Ruby Lambert. While his wife was looking at the waterfall Lambert declared he would name it Ruby Falls. Since then, cave tours have been given. Over the years more attractions were added.

Reasons to visit Ruby Falls Ruby Falls was named one of the ten most incredible cave waterfalls on Earth. It is America's deepest commercial cave and its largest underground waterfall. Ruby Falls offers guided tours throughout its mystical and fascinating caverns and natural rock structures. Once out of the cave, you can walk to up to the Lookout Mountain Tower and get a beautiful panoramic view. Not only does Ruby Falls provide beautiful family fun, but it also helps you explore one of the amazing natural mysteries this earth holds. No visit to Chattanooga is complete without a visit to Ruby Falls.

The Hunter Museum Of Art

Riley

*Admission and hours are posted on the official website, at www.huntermuseum.org*

Reasons To Visit The Hunter Museum is a history-rich art museum that offers a gorgeous view of the Tennessee River off of a ninety foot bluff. It connects the beauty of the water to the urban skyline of downtown Chattanooga. However stunning the scenery is, the real centerpieces are the mansion’s contents: a collection of various types of art-- including paintings, photography, mixed media, sculptures, and contemporary studio glass-that are recognized as the best in the Southeast. The art portrays what has made Americans the people they are today, and showcases art from the Colonial period to today. The interactive and educational exhibits allow it to be perfect for those who tend to wonder about how their past affects their future.

History The history behind the museum is almost as amazing as the view. The bluff was originally known as the sacred home of the Cherokee giant Tia-Numa, but after being claimed by foreigners, an iron-smelting furnace called Bluff Furnace was erected. It was used as a lookout and garrison during the Civil War. It was promptly destroyed because of the action it was in the center of, but is still used as an archaeological research site. A Cincinnati architectural firm was commissioned by Ross Faxon, a wealthy insurance broker, to design a new home for him and his family. The end-product was a well-built mansion. His family lived there for years, then, after housing many people, it was eventually sold in 1920 to Anne Taylor Thomas, who was the widow of

Benjamin F. Thomas, one of the founders of the first Coca -Cola bottling company. Her nephew, who was originally from Kentucky, moved to Chattanooga in order to inherit the bottling company’s empire. At age 17, he became a clerk. He quickly moved through the ranks and became chairman of the board of the company. Hunter was a highly respected philanthropist, and created Benwood, a foundation that is still alive today. After Hunter's death in 1951, the Chattanooga Art Association asked the Benwood Foundation to donate the Faxon-Hunter mansion in order to found an art museum, to which they complied. Chattanooga’s first art museum, then named the George Thomas Hunter Gallery Of Art, was opened to the public July 12, 1952. It remained in its original state, save for a few additions, until 1975, when architects Derthick, Henley, and Wilkerson created a concrete building that won several architectural awards. The new building opened to the public in September of 1975, called the Hunter Museum Of Art. The Benwood Foundation donated 40 paintings with a value of over $1,000,000. After its grand reopening, it got continuous funding from different corporations, which has allowed it to remain open until today, where it stands tall with hundreds of visitors every week. Tennessee Aquarium Attraction Of the many amazing places to go in Chattanooga, The Tennessee Aquarium is a great place for families and tourists to visit. There are many amenities and shops to check out in the downtown area around The Aquarium.

Harlee M.

On May first 1992, the Tennessee Aquarium was founded on the outer banks of the Tennessee River as a non-profit aquarium that was open to the public. Over twenty million people have visited the establishment since it reopened after renovation in 2005. In 2015, the Tennessee Aquarium was named the fourth best aquarium in the country by Trip Advisor. The Tennessee Aquarium's exhibits are located in two structures, the original “River Journey” building which opened in 1992, and the “Ocean Journey” expansion, which was added in 2005. The aquarium has a bunch of exhibits like the river giants in the River Journey Expansion, and the Stingray Bay, in the Ocean Journey Expansion.

The aquarium was a gateway to many new attractions such as the IMax theater that opened in 1996 and Coolidge Park in 1999. Private enterprises were also renovated, with at least 100 restaurants, shops, and businesses popping up to support the huge increase of downtown visitors. “What began as a discussion about improving a marina grew to include expansions of the Tennessee Aquarium and the Hunter Museum of American Art, improvements to the Creative Discovery Museum, public art installations, and the complete overhaul of the riverfront at Chattanooga’s birthplace, Ross’s Land-

ing.” says http://www.tnaqua.org/. These are some great reasons why you should check out Tennessee Aquarium while you’re in town.

Rainbow Lake Audrey

Rainbow Lake is one of the best kept secrets on Signal Mountain. It is on Ohio Avenue and is a popular hiking destination. Its dam was built in 1916 by Charles E. James. Initially it was close to the Signal Mountain Hotel, which has now been converted into a nursing home and assisted living facility. The hotel had 250 rooms and opened in 1913. This was built after Mr. James purchased 4,400 acres of land. Along with the hotel and dam, 12 miles of trolley car rails were installed. At the hotel, the lake was basically used as a pool before there was such a thing as air conditioning. Many people fled the 1878 yellow fever epidemic, and came to signal mountain. At some point the main hotel building was destroyed in a fire, but soon afterwards was rebuilt. In 1930 the lake was cleaned up and opened to the public. Rainbow Lake now has free parking and there is no entrance fee, so this is a great place to go if someone wants to go somewhere without spending any money. Many locals also come to Rainbow Lake to cool off on a hot summer’s day, or walk along the 100 foot long suspension bridge. This is also a good hiking spot. It was even featured in Get Out Chattanooga magazine, and was featured in the August 2016 edition. Works Cited Ad, By. "Rainbow Lake Trail - Hiking." RootsRated. N.p., 13 Sept. 2016. Rainbow Lake has features that everyone can enjoy. It has a shallow area, and next to that is a small rocky area that is home to many macroinvertebrates. Close by a deeper pool right next to the dam can be found. This deeper pool has a rock that can be used as a slide, although, children, especially those that can not swim, should wear a life jacket in this deep area. This is an ideal place to swim, but it is recommended to wear a life jacket, be able to tread water, or both. There are many marked hiking trails for visitors to enjoy. There is also a suspension bridge that is 100 feet long nearby and part of the Cumberland Trail that is also very close to this area. Pack a picnic and enjoy a day of hiking and swimming at one of Chattanooga’s best kept secrets.

The Walnut Street Bridge The Walnut Street Bridge is one of Chattanooga’s most visited attractions. It is 2,376 feet long, and one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world. It is located on 200 Frazier Ave. Chattanooga, Tennessee 37405. The bridge was built in 1891. It is a truss bridge created to link the North Shore across the Tennessee River. The bridge is landmark and a contribution to the tourism and prosperity to the city. Local residents use the bridge for entertainment and recreation such as walking, running, biking, skating, or special events and weddings. The Walnut Street Bridge is free and open to the public all hours of the day, any day of the year. The bridge was designed by inventor and engineer, Edwin Tacher. It was used for transportation, but after over 100 years the bridge was closed due to safety issues. Local groups that were involved with the riverfront and the downtown area fought hard so the bridge would not be demolished. In 1990, the Walnut Street Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places and saved from deconstruction. In 1993,the Walnut Street Bridge reopened as a walking bridge and welcomed citizens and city visitors. As mentioned, there are many things to do there. Finley Stadium:

Benjamin

Chattanooga, TN Go Mocs! Many fans cheer on their hometown team in Finley Stadium. Chattanooga is a great environment for college football, professional soccer, and musical concerts. I have personally been to Finley Stadium multiple times. I have been to a couple of Chattanooga Football Club games, a few University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football events, and one United States Women’s National Team World Cup tour. It is a great place to watch sports and have fun!

Chattanooga opened Finley Stadium in 1997 on Carter Street downtown. It is in a great location for residents all around to attend. It cost 42 million in 2016 dollars to construct. The stadium is named after W. Max Finley who was an alumnus and active supporter of the University of Tennessee system. The field is named in honor of Gordon Lee Davenport who helped fund the construction. The stadium is finally finished on October 18, 1997. Sources: "Finley Stadium -." Finley Stadium. N.p., n.d. Web. 15 S ept. 2016. Location:, By. "Members." Members. N.p., n.d. Web. 15 S ept. 2016

Finley Stadium has a capacity of 20,668 people. This is a good size for an FCS school. It held 10 straight national championship games for FCS schools. Finley Stadium is a great environment for college football. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga plays all their home games on Davenport Field. It also is used for soccer. The Chattanooga football club, or CFC, plays their professional soccer games at Finley Stadium. The United States Women's National Team, who also won the World Cup, came to Chattanooga last August and played at Finley Stadium. There have also been various artists that have performed at Finley Stadium. If a tourist travels to Chattanooga, they should visit Finley Stadium. It is a great attraction in the middle of a beautiful city and college.

Chattanooga, Tennessee is home to many tourist attractions in and around the city. Some of these attractions include The Tennessee Aquarium, Ruby Falls , and The Chattanooga Zoo. One of the most popular of these is Rock City. Rock City is named this from the battles in the Civil War and the “City of Rocks” known as the large boulders in the area. It was officially available to the public as of May 21, 1932. Visitors have been attending Rock City since The Great Depression when Farmers would paint “See Rock City” on their roofs. It was too expensive to advertise, but these “barn billboards” served as great billboards. This tradition continues even today although as interstates become more popular these roadside attractions are disappearing. Just like the advertisement, Rock City’s history is interesting as Native American tribes used to call it home. In 1823 Daniel S. Butrick and William Chamberlain came as missionaries to preach to them. An entry in the journal of Reverend Butrick dated August 28,1823. tells about “a citadel of rocks” on the mountain, describing their enormity and that the way they were arranged was seemingly “ as to afford streets and lanes”. During the Civil War, at the foot of Lookout Mountain a Union officer and Confederate nurse both recorded that a view of seven states could be viewed from the summit during the infamous battle of Lookout Mountain. Even afterward, Lookout Mountain’s Rock City still kept its fame as people love its geographical wonders.

Garnet Carter: Founder of Rock City Garnet Carter was the man who finally brought fame to Rock City. He was an ambitious man and had succeeded at many business ideas before having the idea of founding a neighborhoodup on Lookout Mountain. Carter was born and bred in Tennessee. He was born in Sweetwater, Tennessee in 1883 but at 11 years of age his family packed up and moved to Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga. The project began in 1924 and the community was originally called Fairyland. There was going to be a golf course but delays, maddening townspeople thirsting for a golf course, enticed Carter to create America’s first miniature golf course.

Reasons to Visit Rock City There are many reasons to visit Rock City. It is great for people who appreciate nature as there are many breathtaking views. Many high quality activities are offered such as wonderful views of 7 states. This is the only spot in the United States where you can see into 7 states from one location. Lover’s Leap, an overhang with a waterfall and café atop it, is one of the many wonders of Rock City. This café is called Café 7 and it provides a breath taking view and yummy Southern cuisine. Only the best for Rock City’s customers! Rock City’s botanical gardens is one of the biggest attractions- especially for nature lovers with over 400 plant species. The 4100ft. Enchanted Trail is a sight to behold where you see geological formations. At 1400 Patten Road, you too can experience this world of fun for all ages. From hikes and trails to plays and Cafés, everyone has fun at See Rock City where people can connect with nature. In addition, Rock City aims to bring visitors closer to nature and does its best to be environmentally conscious. The Dwell Hotel

Trey B.

Looking for a nice place to stay in Chattanooga? Come to the Dwell Hotel! The dwell hotel is a locally owned retro themed hotel located on the corner of east 10th street and Columbia. If you like the 1950’s, then this is the hotel for you. When they reopened the place earlier this year , the owner wanted to make the hotel to have rooms that are based off of the 1950’s. Although it has changed names many times throughout its long history it still remains one of the front runners of places to stay here in Chattanooga. It has a variety of retro themed rooms that you can stay in such as the executive suite, the mod (in picture) and many more ranging in prices anywhere from $200-400 per night. While there are also many great things about this hotel that we see today there is also a great history to this hotel. During the Civil War this place was not home to a hotel, but to fort James, a great stone fort built to protect the people of Chattanooga during this hard time. It helped give shelter to people who did not have it in Chattanooga and it helped to save some lives. Decades later it was turned into the hotel that we know and love today by a German immigrant L.A. Hirtzfield in the year of 1909. He named his hotel the Stone Fort Inn in remembrance of the fort that was once there before. Now it is named the Dwell Hotel. The Dwell Hotel is a great place to stay when here in Chattanooga. This 4.6 star hotel comes with room service daily, free Wi-Fi, free breakfast and a whole lot more. Just recently the hotel has added in a new bar called the Matilda Midnight inside of the hotel, this bar is open from 10am to midnight everyday excluding holidays. The hotel also has a restaurant inside called Terra Mae, this restaurant has a large variety of foods to choose from made by their award winning chef Hardin Cowan. It is open from 5pm-9pm Mondays through Thursdays, until 10pm on Saturday's and from 11am-3pm on Sundays. This hotel has a great environment and is welcome to all. "A Rich History of Hospitality."
