Coaching Staff Jason Mangone HEAD COACH Jason Mangone is entering his fourth season as head coach of the Brockport Football team. Mangone joined the coaching staff in 1999, and was promoted to head coach in 2013 after serving as offensive coordinator since 2004. During the 2015 season, the Golden Eagles posted a 5-5 record under Mangone. Throughout the season, 12 Golden Eagles brought home 29 awards including d3football.com’s National Team of the Week, Empire 8’s Defensive and Offense Player of the Year. Brockport earned seven spots on the All-Empire 8 team plus two to the d3football.com All-East Region Team. Dan Andrews and Tarik Bennett were each named All-Americans by d3football.com. Andrews broke several school records and was the national scoring leader with a 15.6 points per game average, earning him the award for Brockport’s Athlete of the Year. Bennett ranked 13th in the nation in tackles for loss with a 1.9 average and set a new Brockport record in career sacks with 25.5. In 2014, Mangone coached Brockport to a 5-5 record including a three game winning streak midway through the season. Under Magone, 17 Golden Eagles tallied 22 awards ranging from East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Week to the offensive line earning a spot on d3football. com’s National Team of the Week. Brockport also earned a handful of postseason awards as six Golden Eagles were named to the Empire 8 AllConference team and one player was named to the d3football.com All-East Region Second-Team. Mangone also led the football team to earning one of Brockport Athletic’s highest awards as Richie Welch was named Brockport’s Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. Mangone had a memorable 2013 season, his first as head coach. He led the Golden Eagles to an 8-3 overall record, as well as the first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Conference Champion Title in school history and an East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northwest Bowl victory. The eight wins are the highest by a head coach in his first season and the fourth most wins in a season in school history. Mangone’s team broke the total yards in a season record with 4,793, as well as rushing yards in a season with 2,354. The Golden Eagles also captured the first shutout since 2005 and the first NJAC shutout in program history with a 24-0 win over Montclair St. on Nov. 9. Nationally, out of 242 teams, the Golden Eagles finished ninth in sacks against, 20th in team pass efficiency defense and 29th in total offense. Under Mangone, Dan Andrews earned the 2013 NJAC Rookie of the Year honors. 13 players finished the season on the All-Conference Squad. Andrews, Ben Woolston, Bruce Doyle, Cortland Haines and Colby Morabito were all selected first-team. Andrews and Haines were the only two freshmen in the conference to make the first-team selection. In 2012, the Golden Eagles offense was ranked 16th in the country in total offense with 475.7 yards per game. Quarterback Joe Scibilia and wide receivers Jake Spalik and Andrew Mrozek broke several school records in the process while running back Tyrone Nichols became the sixth 1,000yard rusher in school history. Scibilia became the school’s first 3,000-yard passer and finished seventh in the country in total offense. Mangone has coached the top three passers in school history with Scibilia, Jake Graci and Zack Luke. In 2011, the Golden Eagles led the entire New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in total offense with 435.8 yards per game. The offense also boasted the most passing yards per game, with Scibilia throwing for 250.9 yards per game in eight contests. In 2010, Brockport averaged 24.7 points per game, including scoring a season-best 45 points vs. Buffalo State. Under Mangone, the Golden Eagles ranked second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in total offense (375.2 yards per game), second in rushing offense 196.2 yards per game), third in passing offense (179 yards per game) and fifth in scoring average. The 2009 team broke 20 school records with the offensive unit earning the title of the highest scoring and most prolific passing teams in school history. The unit finished eighth in the country in total offense averaging 466.5 yards per contest and set the school record for points per game with 36.7. In 2008, the Brockport offense shattered several records for scoring as well as individual records for TDs in a game, season and career. Garet Lynch broke several of the offensive records and was ranked fifth in the country in scoring with 14.26 points per game and was seventh in the nation in rushing with an average of 151.36 yards per contest. In 2007, the Golden Eagles boasted the top running back in the ACFC. In 2005, Brockport had the conference rookie-of-the-year in Zack Luke. Mangone is the recruiting coordinator for the Brockport Athletics Department and acts as home event manager for several sports. He also works a variety of camps during the summer months. Mangone played two years at Alfred before transferring to Brockport in 1997. He became the starting quarterback in 1997 and also started in 1998, setting season records for completion percentage and efficiency rating in his first season at Brockport. He received the Offensive Player of the Year Award in 1998, and Rookie of the Year honors in 1997 with Brockport. He was also the rookie of the year at Alfred in 1995. Mangone received his B.S. in Physical Education from Brockport in 2000 and also earned a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration at the College in 2012. Mangone is a native of Lancaster, NY, and currently resides in Henrietta with his wife, Janine and sons Brendan and Evan.
Coaching Staff Steve Potter OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR Steve Potter was hired as the offensive line coach, run game coordinator and recruiting coordinator in the spring of 2013 and after one season, was promoted to offensive coordinator and will continue to coordinate recruiting. Potter comes to Brockport after three seasons as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Cortland. Prior to Cortland, he was an assistant coach with Bethany College in West Virginia. In 2015, Potter’s offensive unit combined to run and pass for 398 yards per game. The team led the Empire 8 Conference in scoring, averaging 33.6 points per game, which is their highest total since the 2009 season. The running game led the offensive charge, as junior Dan Andrews ran for 139 yards per game, leading the Empire 8 and ranking 14th in the nation. He also ranked first nationally in scoring, accounting for 15.6 points per game. The Golden Eagles brought home four Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week awards under Potter, and also led the league in fewest sacks allowed with 14. During the 2014 campaign, Potter helped lead the Golden Eagles to a five win season. Under his direction, Brockport was ranked No. 14 in the country in the sacks allowed category. In week two, the Golden Eagle offensive line was named as the D3football.com National Offensive Line of the Week, with 193 rushing yards, 485 total yards and zero sacks on 53 attempts. Center Mark Sanchez was also named to the All-Empire 8 honorable mention list as a freshman. In 2013 Potter helped the Golden Eagles to an 8-3 overall record, the NJAC Championship and the ECAC Northwest Bowl Championship. The offense set the school record for rushing yards in a season with 2,354 as the Golden Eagles led the NJAC conference in total rushing yards. Brockport was also ranked No. 29 in the country for total offense and ninth in the nation and first in the NJAC in sacks allowed only surrendering seven in the 11game season. Led by First-Team All-NJAC linemen Bruce Doyle, Ben Woolston and Sean O¹Mara, the Golden Eagles earned the national D3Football. com Offensive Line of the Week twice. With Cortland, Potter helped the team to two NCAA Division III Playoff appearances and an ECAC Southwest Bowl Championship in 2011. In his three seasons as part of the offensive staff at Cortland, the Red Dragons were ranked either first or second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in scoring offense. At Bethany, Potter held the roles of running backs coach, defensive line coach and offensive line coach. He coached three Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) All-Conference selections on the offensive and defensive lines. Prior to his collegiate experience, he was the assistant offensive and defensive line coach for George Washington High School in Charleston, WV. The Charleston, WV native played football for West Virginia Tech before finishing his college playing career at West Virginia State where he graduated with a degree in Political Science in 2007.
Mike Fox DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR Mike Fox joins the Brockport Football coaching staff for the 2016 season as the Defensive Coordinator. Fox joins the Golden Eagles after a 12-year stint at St. John Fisher College, where he served as the Defensive Coordinator for eight seasons. While with the Cardinals, Fox saw six Conference Championships, six ECAC Championships and five NCAA National Playoff appearances including three quarterfinal finishes and a semi-final appearance. Fox oversaw a defense that crushed eight school and national records. His unit set the single game record with 11 sacks against Hartwick College in 2013. That same defense also caused a school record 18 forced fumbles and were ranked second in the country in interceptions. Over his career, Fox has mentored over 50 All-Conference players, two All-American linebackers, an Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year and a d3football.com All-Decade selection. Fox, a 2005 graduate of Fisher, was a four-year starter at Fisher and two-time All-American inside linebacker. He set the Fisher single-season record with 151 tackles as a junior and tallied 135 tackles, while helping guide the Cardinals to their first Empire 8 Conference title and the program¹s first trip to the NCAA Division III Championship. For his career, Fox, a former All-Greater Rochester selection out of Caledonia Mumford, ranks not only first at Fisher in career tackles, but his 478 career tackles rank third all-time in NCAA Division III. Fox graduated with a degree in Communication/Journalism.
Coaching Staff Bob Ellis DEFENSIVE LINE Bob Ellis rejoined the Golden Eagles in 2009 after a three-season hiatus. He coached linebackers and the special teams units for 13 years at Brockport. He served as head coach at Brockport High School from 1982-91. In 2015, the defensive line played a pivotal role in the success of the unit, recording 32 sacks for 226 yards. He was selected as the linebackers coach for the 1985 Eddie Meath All-Star Game. Ellis also coached at high schools in Sidney (1977-81), South Berlin (1976) and New Berlin (1975). In addition, he coached the semi-pro Chenango Storm (1977) and Oneonta Indians (1975-76). He began his career as a graduate assistant at Ithaca College in 1974. While he was a head coach at Brockport High School, he was named the Monroe County West Coach of the Year in 1985. Ellis earned his Bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College in 1974, while playing tight end and outside linebacker for the Bombers from 1970 to 1973. He also earned a Master’s degree from Ithaca College in 1975.
Dan Geiger DEFENSIVE LINE Dan Geiger joined The College at Brockport football coaching staff prior to the start of the 2012 season. Geiger brings an extensive coaching career along with him. A graduate of Cortland, Geiger will assist with the defensive backs. In 2015, the defensive line played a pivotal role in the success of the unit, recording 32 sacks for 226 yards. Geiger’s most previous experience came at the highest level as he served as a High School Player Development Director for the National Football League since 2008. Geiger has been familiar with the Rochester area for a number of years now after serving as the defensive coordinator and strength coach at Churchville-Chili High School from 1995-2006. Following the 2006 season, Geiger became the head coach of the Batavia varsity football program until 2011. A former football player at Alfred University, Geiger received bachelor’s degrees in Secondary Education and Mathematics from Cortland and went on to complete his masters in liberal arts from The College at Brockport.
Jake Spalik WIDE RECEIVERS Jake Spalik joined the Brockport Athletics staff in the Fall of 2014 after graduating from The College at Brockport Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education Teacher Certification. He is currently enrolled in the Physical Education Athletic Administration graduate program. Spalik, a three-time All-NJAC selection, will work with the receivers. In his second season coaching at Brockport, Spalik was able to get production from a multitude of receivers. As a whole, the team averaged 216.70 receiving yards per game, which included five different players averaging over ten yards per catch, and 20 yards per game. In 2013, Spalik finished his Golden Eagles career as the all-time leader in receptions in a game (12), season (73) and career (220). He also has the school record for career reception yardage racking up 2,585 yards in four seasons.
Coaching Staff Ross Ragonesi DEFENSIVE BACKS Ross Ragonesi joined the Brockport Athletics staff in the Fall of 2014 after completing his playing career for the Golden Eagles as a starting defensive back. His coaching duties will include work with the defensive backs. Ragonesi is currently enrolled in the Physical Education Athletic Administration graduate program. In the 2015 season, Ragonesi coached a defensive back unit that accounted for 14 interceptions, which ranked in the top half of the Empire 8 conference. In four seasons, the East Northport native made 185 total tackles including 109 solo stops while intercepting eight passes and breaking up another 23. He was an All-NJAC selection as a sophomore as he led the team and was tied for second in the conference with four interceptions.
Kevin Mc Donough DEFENSIVE BACKS Kevin McDonough joined the Brockport Athletics staff in the Fall of 2015 after graduating from SUNY Cortland with a degree in Physical Education. McDonough will work with the defensive backs. In the 2015 season, McDonough coached a defensive back unit that accounted for 14 interceptions, which ranked in the top half of the Empire 8 conference. While at Cortland, McDonough spent two summers as an equipment intern for the New York Jets at their training camp in Cortland. The Staten Island native also spent time as a video manager, equipment manager and quality control coach with the Cortland football team.
Justin Dueppengiesser RUNNING BACKS Justin Dueppengiesser joined the Brockport Athletics staff in the Fall of 2015 as the runningback’s coach. In the 2015 season, Dueppengiesser improved the quarterback play, as the starting signal caller saw an increase in efficiency (125.91), completetion percentage (57.84%), and total pass yards (2022). Dueppengiesser has a wealth of coaching experience, serving as the Avon Central School Assistant Varsity Coach from 2005-2015. He oversaw the offensive opperations for five years, was the special teams coordinator for five years and was the quarterbacks and defensive backs coach for 10 seasons. While with the Braves, Dueppengiesser helped lead Avon to four Sectional Championships and saw four quarterbacks and two running backs named as Class D or DD Offensive Player of the Year.
Coaching Staff Tyrone Nichols RUNNING BACKS Tyrone Nichols joined the Brockport Athletics staff in the Fall of 2015. Nichols will work with the running backs. In his first season as a coach, Nichols helped running back Dan Andrews earn All-America status after breaking the Brockport career rushing touchdowns record in his Junior season (44). During his four year playing career, the linebacker earned Conference Player of the Week honors twice, was an All-Conference Selection as well as NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week. The Troy native played in 35 games for the Golden Eagles, recording over 2,200 rushing yards including 23 touchdowns. In 2012 Nichols led the team with over 1,000 rushing yards (1,022) on 198 carries and scored a team-leading nine touchdowns.
Steve Milne KICKERS & PUNTERS Steve Milne was a member of the Brockport coaching staff from 1995-2013, making a return for the 2016 season, to assist with the kickers and punters. He also coached at the University of Rochester in the 2002 season. He played three years as a kicker at Brockport and was the second First Team All-American in school history (1993). Milne led the nation in field goals made per game in 1993. Milne still holds Brockport records for field goals in a season (13) and points scored by a kicker in a season (58). He also works full-time at the University of Rochester and was inducted into the Golden Eagle Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. Milne received his B.S. in Criminal Justice from The College at Brockport in 1993.
David Blahowicz DEFENSIVE BACKS David Blahowicz joined the Brockport staff in the fall of 2016 after completing a ten year stint at St. John Fisher College. His coaching responsibilities will include working with defensive backs. As a player, Blahowicz was a quarterback and defensive back for St. John Fisher between 2000 and 03, recording 55 tackles, two sacks, four interceptions, and a forced fumble. He then went on to earn a graduate degree from Fisher in 2007. In 2009, Blahowicz served as the defensive coordinator at Penfield High School before eventually returning to the Cardinals the following year.

In 2015, Jason transitioned to the defensive side of the ball making a strong impact with 40 tackles, including 27 unassisted stops. He also finished with one pass defended.

Franklin Dan is a graduate of Franklin High School. He is the son of Romelis and Laurie Andrews, and has two siblings, Romelis and Brandon. Dan is obtaining a degree in Sport Management. In 2013, Dan was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Offensive Rookie of the Year, earned All-NJAC honors as a First-Team selection, and was a five-time NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week selection. He set school records for most rushing yards by a freshman in a game (282 against William Paterson) and in a season with 1,276 yards, and recorded three games with at least 200 rushing yards (282 vs. William Paterson, 244 vs. Morrisville and 230 vs. Montclair). Dan had four rushing TDs and one receiving TD in the victory over William Paterson. He was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his breakout performance against William Paterson, and also had four kickoff returns for 85 yards before moving into the starting running back position. In his sophomore campaign, Dan continued to shine, starting in all 10 games, rushing for an average of 110.60 yards a game to lead the league, and added a season total of 1,106 yards, surpassing the 1,000-yard rushing milestone for the second consecutive year. Andrews picked up nine rushing touchdowns, and one receiving score. He also made 31 catches on the season for 225 yard s and an average of 22.5 receiving yards per game. Dan earned Empire 8 All-Conference honors, as a First-Team selection. Dan’s dominance continued in his junior season, where the Rochester, NY native broke several Brockport records and set national marks. He earned the title of Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year, and finished the season as the national scoring leader with a 15.6 points per game average. The junior rushed for 1,390 yard in 2015, and picked up an impressive 24 rushing touchdowns, the second best mark in Division III, in addition to two receiving scores. He had seven games with 100 or more rushing yards including his season best 225 yards against Utica College. Dan shattered several Brockport records along the way, including career rushing touchdowns with 44, season touchdowns at 26, and moved to second on the career rushing list with 3,732 total yards. He was named to the D3Football.com 2015 First Team All-East Region, D3football.com All-American Honorable Mention, and the ECAC Football All-Stars First-Team.

Northport Alex is a graduate of Northport High School, where he was named to the All-Division and All-County team and played in the All-Star game. He is the son of Michael and Marie Egglinger, and has one sibling, Scott. Alex is seeking a degree in Exercise Physiology. In his freshman campaign, Alex earned SUNYAC All-Academic honors, and saw action in every game as a reserve and on special teams units, accounting for nine tackles with five solo stops. His role increased over time, as in 2014, Alex saw action in all 10 games for the Golden Eagles. The linebacker picked up 24 tackles, including 12 unassisted tackles. He also added 3.5 tackles for a loss of eight-yards. In his junior season, Egglinger led the Golden Eagles in tackles, with 110 over the course of the season, including 40 solo tackles. Alex added 12 tackles for a loss of 37-yards, including three sacks for a loss of 22 yards. He also snagged an interception, which he returned 31-yards for a touchdown, a broken up pass and a forced fumble. Egglinger was named to the Empire 8 All-Conference Second-Team and earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

He is obtaining a degree in History with minors in Political Science and Business Administration. Ed saw limited action for the Golden Eagles on the defensive line his freshman season, but worked his way into the lineup his sophomore year. He played in seven contests in 2014, with four tackles, including a tackle for a loss of one yard. In his junior campaign, Ed played in nine games, with 18 tackles, including 11 solo tackles. He accounted for six tackles for a loss of 33-yards, and had two forced fumbles, one of which he returned for a touchdown against St. John Fisher College. He also had five sacks in 2015, for a total loss of 27-yards.

As a sophomore, he saw time in five contests, with two receptions for a total of six-yards, picked up a tackle, and had one kick return for 28 yards.

His longest boot of the season was a 57 yard punt, with a 37.5 average.

In his freshman season, Rashad had a strong impact for the Golden Eagles, playing in seven contests. The defensive back accounted for a total of 11 tackles, including seven unassisted tackles. He also picked up a tackle for a loss of eight yards, picked up a punt deflection, a forced fumble and a fumble return. Rashad earned the Brockport Player of the Week and a spot on the D3Football.com Team of the Week for his performance. The first-year player grabbed his first two interceptions at the collegiate level in a 49-42 win over Morrisville State. The first interception came in the third quarter and was returned 30 yards for a touchdown. In the final minutes of the game, with Brockport clinging to a seven point lead, Baker came up big with an interception and returned it 41 yards to seal the victory for the Golden Eagles.

Record Book Since football began at The College at Brockport in 1947, 44 individuals have been honored 74 times as All-Americans by a variety of organizations and publications. Included in this group are eight Little All-Americans, which today comprises all levels below Division I (in the ’50s, Little All-Americans were players in the “College” division), and seven first-team Division III All-Americans—Ed Smart in 1990, Steve Milne in 1993, Tom Massey in 1997, Josh Warner in 2000, Jay Johnson in 2001, Mike Condello in 2002 and Cuyler Groth in 2007. Massey also was named a first-team Academic All-American by GTE and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).Warner was the first Golden Eagle to be named to the American Football Coaches Association All-American team (started in 1945) and was also the first to be named to the USAfootball.com first team (started in 1995). Warner and Condello are the only Brockport players to earn all five All-America honors in one season. There are 14 members of this elite group have been elected into the Golden Eagle Athletic Hall of Fame. They are indicated by the (*) symbol in the list below.

Support Staff Lee Cohen HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER Lee Cohen is Brockport’s Head Athletic Trainer, and Cohen has worked at Brockport since 1986. Cohen received his B.S. in Sports Medicine from Marietta College (Ohio) in 1982, and his M.S. in Physical Education/Athletic Training from the University of Arizona in 1983. As Brockport’s Head Athletic Trainer, Cohen supervises the College’s Athletic Training Services, and also teaches courses in the Athletic Training and Physical Education Teacher Education majors at Brockport. Before coming to Brockport, Cohen served as the Head Athletic Trainer/Instructor at Phoenix College in Phoenix, Ariz, as a Faculty Associate at Arizona State University and as an Associate Athletic Trainer at Grand Canyon College from 1983-86. Cohen also was the Head Athletic Trainer at Pueblo High School in Tucson, Ariz. From 1982-83.
Ed Jaskulski STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING The College at Brockport not only boasts 23 outstanding varsity sports teams, it also features a state-ofthe art strength and conditioning program, which is directed by former Brockport football and track & field athlete Ed Jaskulski. Jaskulski is assisted by Nate Bull with the programs specially designed for football. Using a recentley renovated student-athlete strength and conditioning facility just steps away form the team lockerroom, Jaskulski and his staff design and implement training programs for each individual position group. The strength and conditioning center is outfitted with collegiate power racks provided by EliteFTS.com, high-speed treadmills, inlaid Olympic platforms, a free-motion functional trainer, VertiMax platforms and much more, athletes will be able to push their bodies to maximize their athletic talents, all while under the watch of experienced instructors. Jaskulski was a starting offensive lineman from 1999-2002, was captain of the 2001 squad as well as the 2002 Lambert Cup Championship team.

Situated along the parking lots adjacent to the Tuttle North Physical Education facility, the Special Events Recreation Center (SERC) is a $44 million, 156,000 square-foot, multi-use complex with a seating capacity of 5,500. The state-of-the-art, three-story facility features an indoor track, a brand-new fitness center and weight room, and indoor training and practice areas for softball, baseball and tennis.
