CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS We recognize that life is full of surprises, but we also have obligations to our staff and suppliers. Camps fees can be refunded less a $20 administration fee up until June 1. Between June 1 and 2 weeks prior to your child’s camp the administration fee will rise to $50.

CLIMBING AND ROCK CHALLENGE COURSE Youth University and senior sports school campers will have the opportunity to climb at our Outdoor Rock Climbing Tower and Challenge Course once during their camp week. Although our trained ropes course facilitators will encourage campers to question their perceptions of what they believe they can accomplish, we would never push them too far where learning is replaced by fear. We encourage everyone to find a challenge that is right for them. Not applicable to camps downtown.

REGISTRATION
Youth University and Sports School campers will receive a t-shirt to be worn each day of camp. Additional shirts can be purchased for $10 during registration.

Select camps will swim at the Brock University pool. Certified lifeguards are on duty and monitor our swim time. As well, our camp instructors will be in the water to monitor campers and play. Campers who are 9 years old and under who wish to swim in the middle or deep end of the pool (this includes the diving boards and tarzan rope) must complete a swim test administered by the lifeguards. Please note that there will be no swimming in week 8 as the Brock pool will be closed for annual maintenance.

ROBOTICS
For youth finished grades 4 to 8 All robotics programs use EV3 Mindstorms kits. Campers will have their own desktop or tablet workstation and work collaboratively in small groups on their robotics project. All sessions include instruction on building and computer programming concepts, while offering appropriate challenge for both beginners and those with advanced robotics experience.
Battle Bots
July 3-6 or July 30-Aug 3 A YU favourite! Use virtual LEGO software to create a robot and then take initiative in building it. Push your design to its limits in the week’s ultimate battle of the bots. Compete to have the fastest, most agile or perhaps the most clever bot!

July 16-20, Aug 7-10 or Aug 20-24 There is a lot that goes into the videogames you love. Using specialized software, campers fast-track the exciting video game design process and get straight to creating. As you create your own game and storyline, you will learn how to control characters, objects, and outcomes. Increase the difficulty level and add more features. Game on!
Simple Machines
July 9-13 or Aug 7-10 Design a robot with moving parts that can perform tasks such as lifting, grabbing, or launching. Campers will be predicting outcomes, running trials, recording results, and exploring the basic mechanical principles of gears, levers, pulleys, wheels, and axles.
Vehicles
July 16-20 or Aug 13-17 Ever wonder how to design an autonomous car that is safe for the road? Explore how to build and program vehicles with line detection, cruise control, object detection, or how to cross an intersection safely. Then consider how you can unlock or start your car from the living room!

July 3-6, July 23-27 or Aug 13-17 Dive into the world of coding. You will be surprised how much we depend on code everyday. We invite you to learn basic coding skills with devices such as BB8, Sphero, Ollie, Dash and Dot. As you get more comfortable with the technology you may advance to designing, building, and creating your own video game using programs such as Scratch and Tynker.

July 9-13 or July 30-Aug 3 Combine storytelling, technology, and artistic expression in this creative program. Exciting daily challenges will help campers learn about a variety of film and video editing techniques. We will explore how to capture movement, and the impact of lighting. Earth and Environmental Sciences
July 3-6 or Aug 7-10 Brock is a natural laboratory to study the Earth. Activities will include explorations of minerals and how they are used in our daily lives, how fossils and footprints are made, and what they can tell us. We will explore the processes behind volcanoes, earthquakes, other natural hazards, and the earth processes that shape our landscape. You may even explore ways to reduce our carbon footprint.
Mini-Med
July 9-13 or Aug 13-17 Campers will have the chance to discover the fascinating world of health and medical science, as they explore the wonders of the human body and modern science. We will investigate different systems and performance through sport and daily activities. Amazing Race: Pirates, Jurassic Park or Ancient Times
July 23-27 or Aug 20-24 Ever heard the saying you are what you eat? Explore reactions and various experiments with everyday ingredients you see in the kitchen! Through hands-on activities, you will use different scientific methods to understand chemical reactions and how food science is shaping how and what we eat. While most of this camp will be spent in the lab, you will spend one day in the kitchen to discover important principles of culinary science and enjoy some tasty creations. Please discuss any dietary restrictions prior to camp.

We will work on acting and voice techniques as we take part in theatre and improv activities. Outdoor Survivors July 3-6, July 16-20, July 30-Aug 3 or Aug 13-17 Are you looking for adventure? Join our Outdoor Survivors to work in a team to complete challenges and learn more about your natural world. You will spend most of the time exploring Brock’s unique eco-system along the Niagara escarpment. You will build shelters, campfires and learn about principles such as “leave no trace”.
As a Leader In Training you will: • tap into your personal leadership skills • develop effective interpersonal communication skills • gain the confidence to overcome obstacles and accomplish goals • work alongside a YU mentor in creating exciting adventures for youth • receive a certificate for 30 hours of volunteer service

Work on acting and voice techniques, what it means to be “on stage”, and how to leave a lasting impression with your audience. Take part in theatre and improv activities like acting out a video game or choreographing a chase, and work toward a final production by the end of the week.
Arts Media July 23-27 This is the camp for young artists interested in developing their visual art practice. Campers will create a variety of works using mediums that may include charcoal, splatter painting, clay, mixed media and paper making. Youth University is excited to bring our popular summer camp programming to the downtown St. Catharines campus. Campers will be immersed in the world of creativity, as they watch as artists stretch their own canvas, visit the nearby Performing Arts Centre and enjoy the grounds of this stimulating location.

SPORTS & AQUATICS CAMPS Brock Sports School is the longest running camp in the Niagara peninsula. Started by Bob Davis, Sports School is designed to provide fun, age appropriate activities that promote sportsmanship, fair play and skill development. Campers will be exposed to a variety of new and familiar sports, develop skills and have fun in a safe environment. Possible activities include archery, basketball, cricket, fencing, co-op games, flag football, flag rugby, swimming, indoor rowing, soccer, racket sports, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, tchoukball, wallyball, outdoor water games and many others! Join the aquatic staff for small group aquatic camps, ranging from Junior Lifeguard, to synchronized swimming to springboard diving, and AquaSport (where you will try a variety of water activities).

Synchronized Swimming
8 sessions Finished grades 1 to 8 Sports school campers will participate in at least 10 sports during their camp week! Sports school aims to expose youth to a variety of new and familiar sports to build lifelong sport participation skills. From traditional sports such as baseball and volleyball to new activities such as tchoukball and kinball, we will develop skills and have fun in a safe environment. Utilizing our unique facilities here at Brock U campers will also have opportunities for indoor rowing and fencing! Sports School is a week packed with active, fair play and new experiences.
July 16-20 or Aug 7-10 Finished grades 1 to 10 Synchronized swimmers have the strength of a gymnast, the endurance of a swimmer, and the grace of a dancer. Campers will build their flexibility, endurance and overall comfort in the water. Campers will learn a short routine for a Friday performance. Campers should be comfortable in deep water, able to submerge while holding their breath and tread water for 20 seconds.
Canoe and Kayak July 9-13, July 16-20 or Aug 13-17 Finished grades 4 to 8 Sports School and the South Niagara Canoe Club are partnering again in 2018 for this unique opportunity for our campers. Campers spend the morning participating in Sports School sessions of sport development, and will then be transported by bus to the South Niagara Canoe Club in Welland for an afternoon of canoeing and kayaking with the certified instructors. Basic skills such as launching, landing, boat handling and paddle technique are covered in this camp.
Junior Lifeguard July 3-6, July 9-13, July 16-20, July 23-27, July 30-Aug 3 or Aug 7-10 Finished grades 3 to 10 An introduction to the world of lifesaving and lifeguard competitions. This camp was designed for a serious purpose, but the process is pure fun. The club stresses skill development based on personal best achievements. This program includes swimming, cooperative games, competitive games, diving, shadow guarding, lifesaving skills, rescues, first aid, and crafts!
AquaSport July 3-6 or July 23-27 Finished grades 1 to 10 AquaSport provides an opportunity for campers to try out various water sports in a fair and safe aquatic environment. Activities include water polo, synchronized swimming, springboard diving, lifeguard skills and more. AquaSport emphasizes fitness, skill development, fair play and cooperation.
Lifesaving Sport FUNdamentals July 9-13 or July 30-Aug 3 Finished grades 1 to 10 Improve your strokes with 25 m swims of front crawl, back crawl and whip kick. With 100 m workouts and 25 m sprints, fitness levels should increase. Touch and go turns will also be introduced. Hitting a target with a rope, movement with flippers, swimming underneath an obstacle, securing a rescue tube to a manikin and treading water while supporting an object, are some of the sport skills to be enjoyed. Prerequisite: Participants should be comfortable in the deep end, able to swim 25 meters and tread water for 45 seconds. Swimmer 3.

Springboard Diving July 3-6 or Aug 7-10 Finished grades 1 to 8 Learn the latest in diving techniques in a relaxing, funfilled setting that concentrates on technical improvement in 1m and 3m springboard diving. This camp teaches the importance of stretching, strength and conditioning and the techniques for somersaults, twists and the hurdle. Prerequisite: Swimmer 3.

Girls Development Basketball Aug 20-24 Finished grades 3 to 8 A place for players of all skill levels and abilities to feel included, make friends, and have a great time playing a sport they love. We practice drills, play games, and teach a game that we love in a team environment that builds friendships and basketball abilities, in a setting where kids of all abilities can thrive and feel welcome. Whether you are an experienced player looking to challenge yourself and improve your skills or a new player who wants to give the sport a try, Brock’s Girls Basketball Camp is the place to do it. July 3-6 Finished grades 1 to 8 Time to swing for the fences! Designed for baseball players of all skill levels and experience, campers will learn position specific skills, fundamentals, game strategies, and mental and physical preparation for competitive baseball.
July 9-13, July 23-27 or August 20-27 (full day) Aug 13-17 (half day) Finished grades 2 to 8 Designed for the dedicated golfer looking to take their game to the next level as well as those just learning to play. It is designed to teach the fundamental skills of golf building confidence, lowering scores and celebrating success. Activities, drills and modified games will all be used to develop and teach skills. Campers will take part in both team and individual contests throughout the week. All campers will spend an equal amount of time on the practice grounds and the golf course; giving them a chance to lower their scores. Campers will need to bring their own golf clubs to camp. Golf camp takes place at the Brock Golf Course located at 2745 Merrittville Highway in Fonthill. Please note that before and after care is not provided for this camp.

Hosted by our Brock Badger varsity teams and lead by our professional coaching staff, these camps are designed to inspire and train young athletes to compete and rise up to their next level. Campers not only improve their technical skills, they are introduced to a variety of physical activities and skills for life long sport participation and healthy life styles.

Cheerleading Aug 13-17 Finished grades SK to 8 Come join our popular Cheerleading camp at Brock U! No previous experience is necessary as campers will be evaluated during the first half of the day on Monday and placed into groups accordingly. Our cheerleading camp is designed to teach the fundamental skills of cheerleading including stunts, pyramids, dance, tumbling, jumps, and of course cheer! The goal of this camp is to build confidence, learn teamwork, build trust, develop skills and celebrate success.
Aug 17-19 Ages 8-17 This three day camp is designed to prepare athletes for competitive cheer either in all-star, high school or University/ College. Overnight program athletes will stay in residence on campus and enjoy meals in the dining hall. Nutritious meals and snacks will be served to all overnight campers. Camp is open to both males and females. In addition to stunting skills athletes will also learn about strength and conditioning, nutrition, sport performance, and injury prevention.
Introduction to Fencing (half day) July 9-13 or July 16-20 Finished grades 2 to 5 from 9 am-12 pm Finished grades 6 to 12 from 1-4 pm A unique experience for new and returning fencers! Campers will learn fencing skills through fun games and fencing specific activities. Campers will learn the basic fencing movements, techniques, and rules. Age appropriate equipment will be provided.
July 23-27 Finished grades 2 to 5 from 9 am-12 pm Finished grades 6 to 12 from 1-4 pm Designed for campers who have previously participated in an introductory fencing program or camp and are looking to learn more or improve their skill. Campers will focus more intensely on advanced defensive techniques, reaction speed improvement, whole-body fitness, and combat psychology improvements such as developing self-confidence under pressure.

July 2-6, July 9-13, July 16-20, July 23-27, July 30-Aug 3 or Aug 13-17 Finished grades 8 to 12 Brock will once again be hosting rowers at our popular five day Youth Rowing School. Participants will get a chance to improve their sculling (each person has two oars) skills in a wide variety of boats before the fall high school season begins. 8:30-12:30. Soccer July 9-13 Finished grades 2 to 10 Designed with a focus on skill development in a fun and safe environment. Skill development in this camp will focus on dribbling, passing, defending, and teamwork.
Volleyball July 3-6 or July 23-27 Finished grades 3 to 12 Youth are invited to learn the fundamentals of volleyball including serving, volleying, passing, blocking, and spiking. The goal of this camp is to develop skills, build confidence, nurture teamwork and celebrate success. Athletes will take part in individual skills contests and tournaments.

CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS We recognize that life is full of surprises, but we also have obligations to our staff and suppliers. Camps fees can be refunded less a $20 administration fee up until June 1. Between June 1 and 2 weeks prior to your child’s camp the administration fee will rise to $50. Camps fee become non-refundable 2 weeks prior to the camp start date. Missed camp days cannot be made up.
