DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS

Get ready for Goodman Goodman offers a mentoring program open to all incoming first-year students. A round table discussion will focus on the transition to university, including the successes and challenges often faced by students. A time management workshop led by a Goodman professor will help you manage coursework and extracurriculars. You’ll meet some of your fellow classmates, Goodman faculty and staff, and become more familiar with the Brock campus.

Presentation Etiquette Workshop At Goodman, we teach students how to take their presentation skills to the next level. A workshop focusing on proper presentation etiquette will teach students about team dynamics, presentation flow and style, roles and responsibilities. It will build your confidence and equip you with oral communication skills you can apply inside and outside the classroom.

Case Interview Skills Session In this skills session, students learn what employers are looking for in a case-based interview. You will learn how to best prepare, how to stand out and what areas to focus on during an interview.

Competitor Development Program Business competitions are a great way to get involved with Goodman student life. They also help you apply the knowledge you learn in the classroom to real-life scenarios. Goodman’s case competition training session will teach you how to approach cases and present your ideas effectively. The skills you gain can be used when you’re presenting in class, representing Goodman at a case competition or interviewing for a job or co-op position.

THE GOODMAN EXPERIENCE.

Drew MacNeil (BBA ’19 Co-op) Co-Founder and COO, XpertVR Inc. “ I had an amazing experience throughout my five years at Goodman, which I attribute to getting increasingly involved with the school and local community. Whether you join a club through the Business Students’ Association, get involved in case competition teams, participate in networking events, or even take the lead on class projects that involve working with local businesses, the more real-world experience you can gain throughout your time at Goodman, the easier you may grasp your course work and be prepared for your career after graduation. Goodman provided me with personal growth opportunities, business knowledge and practical experience beyond my expectations.”

34

Seema Iver Founder, Sat Yuga Life “ I had the pleasure of being a part of the 2020 JDC business case competition, in which the winning team was comprised of Goodman students. I was incredibly impressed with their aptitude, creativity and presentation skills. The recommendations they offered my company were practical, well thought out and tailored specifically towards the roadblocks I was facing. I’m proud to say I have implemented many of their suggestions into my business. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Goodman School of Business to any employer: These high-calibre students would be an asset to any business or organization globally.”

Kai-Yu Wang Professor and Chair, Department of Marketing, International Business and Strategy “ What differentiates Goodman from other business schools is its unique offering of experiential education opportunities that benefits students as well as local businesses and not-for-profit organizations. For the past nine years, I’ve used service-learning projects collaborating with the local communities in all of my courses because I want students to know that the knowledge, concepts and theories they learn can be applied to the real business world. The quality of teaching and research at Goodman is outstanding because of its strong and productive faculty members, many of whom have been recognized nationally and internationally.”

Kellie Williamson (BBA ’20 Co-op) BBA Co-op International Double Degree student with Dublin City University 2019 Goodman Ambassador

Manvir Brar (BAcc ’20 Co-op) 2019/20 President of Goodman Business Students’ Association

“ What initially drove me to choose Goodman was the idea of taking on a program that would give me a story to share for the rest of my life.

“ I initially chose the Goodman School of Business for its strong co-op program. My work terms allowed me to apply knowledge learned in class to real-world scenarios and gave me a new perspective on the career I was choosing.

Studying and working in Ireland at Dublin City University opened my eyes to the diverse experiences of others and grew my professional network on an international level. At Brock, I worked as a Residence Don, which allowed me to support first-year students and hone my transferable skills, which I still speak to today in interviews.

Goodman prides itself on providing students with the opportunity to develop their skills outside the confines of a classroom. As President of the Business Students’ Association, I was able to grow as an individual and develop a large network with the amazing staff, faculty, and student leaders that Goodman houses.

My degree experience has shaped my confidence in being a businesswoman and has fueled my ability to enter the workforce upon graduation.”

Goodman has provided me with the tools to succeed and an undergraduate experience that I will look back on with pride.”

Jayna Sutaria Fifth-year BBA Co-op student 2020/21 President of Goodman Brock Women in Business “ The Goodman School of Business is filled with opportunities to develop personally and professionally. Goodman supported my passion for technology and business through courses focused on information systems; leadership opportunities with student clubs and case competitions that strengthened my problem-solving and communication skills; and co-op work terms that helped me develop a deep understanding of the rigor and complexity required to operate a global organization.”
