Clent Hills Vets, in Bromsgrove, has demonstrated its commitment to caring for cats, by introducing a wide variety of new facilities to make visits easier for cats and their owners. A visit to the vets can be extremely stressful for some feline pets, who like to be in control of their surroundings. The change in routine, environment and the strange smells and new people encountered all contribute to feelings of anxiety, which can be exacerbated if the cat then finds itself in an area frequented by dogs. Clent Hills Vets has been officially recognised as a Cat Friendly Clinic and holds Gold Standard

accreditation from the ISFM (International Society of Feline Medicine). The accreditation is awarded to practices which put in place a variety of measures to address the issues which can cause distress for cats. Following the introduction of a cat-only consultation room, on a trial basis last year, Clent Hills Vets has now made this a permanent feature at its Bromsgrove practice. This allows cats to be seen in a

Vet Ivelin Kumanov is Clent Hillsʼ cat champion and he is continuously looking at ways to improve services for cats and their owners. He said: “As a cat friendly accredited clinic we are committed to handling and treating cats with understanding, gentleness, and respect. Our aim is to make a visit to the vets the best experience it can be, which helps result in a higher quality of care.” Clent Hills also run a dedicated cat only clinic every Tuesday lunchtime. Dogs arenʼt booked in for appointments at this time, usually meaning there are no dogs in the waiting room. For more details call Clent Hills Vets on 01527 889810.

Business News Tax Deductible Team-Building Days! Mark & Tina Treverton

Holding a team-building event can be hugely beneficial for employees, encouraging staff to work more effectively together. The range of activities can help with communication, problem solving, conflict resolution etc.

Shooting 4 Fun, based in Hanbury, has been delivering corporate events for over 25 years and owner Mark Treverton has earned an enviable reputation for providing first class teambuilding activities with fun firmly on the agenda.

Corporate team-building activities can include: Real Clay Shooting Laser Clay Shooting Archery Rifle Shooting Indoor & Outdoor Laser Tag In addition, cerebral and physical games will truely challenge your team whilst being great fun.

A Unique Approach to Wedding Stationery David Chill, the owner of VIP, said: “In some cases we have had the Bride and Groom on the premises printing their own stationery because they wished to be involved in all aspects of making their day special. We are incredibly flexible in our approach and delighted to welcome couples who want to experience the entire the production process.”

Bromsgrove printing company VIP has been producing wedding stationery for over 30 years and has an established, enviable reputation for quality bespoke work using hand-crafted skills. Whilst the mainstream option is to choose wedding stationery from a wide variety of template collections, VIP offers couples a truly bespoke service.

Customers can select from a wide range of papers and boards from some of the UKʼs best paper merchants, with VIP offering over 300 varieties of paper stocks in 9 different thicknesses.

This starts with an informal meeting with Lisa, the in-house graphic designer. Couples can discuss the look, theme and style of their stationery – which is then created to their exact requirements. The proofing stage allows changes to be made before progression to production.

VIP will then hand-craft the wedding stationery using either digital printing technology and / or the more specialist hot-foiling technique, a traditional method of printing by hand which adds a touch of elegance with metallic colours such as gold and silver.

VIP receives orders for its wedding stationery from across the UK as well as Europe and beyond. David continued: “Weʼve produced stationery covering every style and theme from traditional to contemporary to the downright bizarre. This has included wedding stationery with an Aston Villa and Disney Princess theme.” New for 2020 is the addition of a Laser Engraver at VIP, for cutting and engraving into wood, perspex, acrylic and many other items. This has already brought to life the creation of some truly outstanding design concepts. For more details call VIP on 01527 871500 or visit www.vipprinters.co.uk

Bromsgrove Bromsgrove Rock Rock School School Needs Needs You!

Bromsgrove Rock School invites you to attend its FREE end of term gig at Stoke Prior Sports & Country Club on Sunday 29th March, at 6pm. Guests are promised a truly entertaining evening of live music, delivered by talented young musicians who will perform a mix of covers and original material - with something to appeal to everyone. Previous end of term concerts have wowed audiences with hugely professional renditions of well know songs such as ʻGalway Girlʼ (Ed Sheeran), ʻDonʼt Stop Believingʼ (Journey), ʻBoulevard of Broken Dreamsʼ (Green Day), and ʻHalf The World Awayʼ (Oasis). Original material presented by the talented teenage songwriters

Phoebe and Storm have impressed onlookers based on the maturity of their material, vocal skills and musical instrument accompaniment. This pair were among a group of Bromsgrove Rock School musicians who made it through to the final of Redditch Has Talent in 2019. Entry to the end of term gig on 29th March is free. However donations are welcome, which help fund future participation by the musicians in community events such as the Blackwell Festival and Primrose Hospice summer fete. Bromsgrove Rock School was established by Brian Hoggard in April 2017. It provides a safe and supportive environment where young musicians, aged 11 to 18 years, can

develop their skills with professional support and guidance from instrument and vocal coaches. The School is currently looking for new members to join, especially junior singers, drummers and bass guitarists - aged 8 to 13 years. Sessions take place on Saturday mornings during term time at St Peterʼs Catholic First School in Rock Hill, Bromsgrove. Juniors meet 10.30am to 11.30am, and seniors from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Tuition fees apply but anyone interested in joining can attend the first session free, to see what itʼs all about. For more information call 07720 211002. Boss to Serve in a Different Capacity Letting go is hard but it had to happen at some point and it will give me time to pursue the other interests I have.”

Martin Clark with Paul Cutter

Martin has been working for the business in a part-time capacity since December. However, as he moves towards full retirement he is looking forward to pursuing his passion for table tennis.

Local businessman Martin Clark has handed over control of his Bromsgrove-based accountancy firm after 40 years at the helm. Martin Clark set up Martin G Clark & Co in February 1980, originally working from home looking after a small client base. He moved the business to offices in Aston Fields in 1989 and with the support of his manager Pauline Griffin the firm developed to its current position, representing around 250 local businesses; providing an extensive range of accountancy services.

Turning 75 years of age in 2019, Martin felt the time was right to merge his business with a similarly aligned, well-established firm, ensuring the long-term continuity of services for existing clients and future new ones. On 1 December Martin G Clark & Co officially merged with Halesowenbased Cutter & Co Chartered Accountants. Directors Paul Cutter, Dave Hazlehurst and Kate Jones from Cutter & Co are heading up the merged firm. Martin Clark said: “Clients now benefit from access to the wider range of services the combined firms provide.

2003 – 2013 he was Director / Treasurer of the English Table Tennis Association. This led to him becoming the ʻfinancial expertʼ for the European Table Tennis Union and a member of the Veterans Committee of the International Table Tennis Federation, the worldʼs table tennis governing body. He was a member of the official anti-doping team at the 2012 London Olympics and subsequently invited to a Buckingham Palace garden party for a celebration of the Olympics. He remains an active player and will be competing in the World Veteranʼs Table Tennis Championships in Bordeaux in June this year.

Mayflower 400 Community Day Announced Mayflower in Plymouth Harbor by William Halsall

A free community event, the Mayflower 400 Community Day, will be taking place on 4th July across Droitwich Spa Town Centre and Lido Park, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower and Pilgrim Edward Winslow. Born in 1595 in Droitwich and baptised in St Peters Church, Edward Winslow was one of the first pilgrims to America, who sailed on the Mayflower in 1620. Mayflower 400 is a national commemoration, remembering the lives of the Mayflower Pilgrims, the Native American people they encountered and their legacy. Exploring themes of freedom, humanity and imagination the day will include something for all the family. Confirmed highlights include one of the UKs

leading street theatre and circus companies Acrojou with their show All At Sea, and Poetry Jukebox by artist and theatre maker Adie Mueller with poetry chosen for this event. Also confirmed to-date are regional companies including childrenʼs opera company BʼOpera with their especially devised A Mayflower Tale and Worcestershire based White Socks Theatre, presenting a childrenʼs show about Edward Winslow and the sailing of the ship.

Audiences will also be able to walk on the Mayflower ship itself with virtual reality experiences created by local resident Professor Robert Stone, Visiting Professor in XR & Telepresence, and his Human Interface Technologies Team at The University of Birmingham. The Mayflower 400 Day is funded by Droitwich Spa Town Council, Wychavon District Council, Worcestershire County Council and Arts Council England. The principal sponsor for this event is local company Churchfields, creators of Droitwich Salt. Supporting Primrose Hospice Over 200 people attended Primrose Hospice’s second Lantern Walk on Saturday 1st February, in memory of loved ones. The event raised over £2,500 for the hospice in St Godwalds Road, Bromsgrove.

People holding beautiful lanterns helped to light up the night sky over Ragley Hall and pretty fairylights and lanterns lit the 1.5 mile route through the stunning gardens, as families and supporters weaved their way through the trail. At the end of the route, heartfelt messages to lost loved ones were left on a memory tree while the Primrose Choir sang a medley of fitting songs. Emma Williams, Fundraising Manager at Primrose Hospice, said: “We couldnʼt have asked for a better evening or venue for our Lantern Walk. “As the sun began to set on the clear winter night, it was lovely to watch the trail of lanterns in the dusk. Ragley Hall has beautiful gardens but they were extra special with all the fairy lights lighting the way.

“Afterwards, it was really touching to read some of the messages left on the memory tree which really brought home what a special event this is to our community. “A big thank you to everyone who came along and helped to raise so much money which will help us continue to provide free care and support to people with life-limiting conditions and their families.” The Lantern Walk was kindly sponsored by Thomas Brothers Funeral Directors and Green Breeze Ambient.

The donated uniform will go on the preloved uniform rail and everything will be available to buy at just £3 an item or £5 for blazers. All proceeds from the sale of preloved uniform will go towards the hospice which provides free care and support to people with life-limiting conditions, their families as well as bereaved adults and children.

Parents can pick up preloved uniform in aid of Primrose Hospice A schoolwear shop is selling pre-loved uniform to support Primrose Hospice in Bromsgrove. Parents can buy or donate good quality, second-hand school clothing at S&H Schoolwear and Sports in Church Street. Shop owners Helen and Simon Greaves said their experience with hospice care following the death of Helenʼs father inspired them to launch the charity fundraiser. Mrs Greaves explained that her father had been cared for by a hospice for 13 weeks before his death and called hospice care an ʻabsolute lifelineʼ. “I lost my dear dad in 2015 so we know hospices are absolutely invaluable. Before dad died, we had absolutely no idea that hospices rely so heavily on fundraising to keep going. “Preloved Uniform is something weʼve been thinking about doing for a while. It started off as a little idea we had last year, weʼve given it a lot of thought and looked at various ways

Mrs Greaves added: “We know how quickly children grow, there must be hundreds of unwanted items stashed away in the wardrobes of Bromsgrove. When your child no longer needs their school uniform, please pop it back to our shop. “We always knew we wanted the proceeds of preloved uniform to go to a local charity and we felt that Primrose Hospice was the obvious charity of choice. The preloved uniform rail not only supports the hospice but also helps save parents a few pennies. It will also have an environmental impact by ensuring clothing isnʼt going to landfill unnecessarily. People can access Primrose Hospiceʼs services for free, however, the hospice costs around £1.75million to run annually. It must raise £1.5million of the total itself through events such as the Lantern Walk, its charity shops, donations from the community as well as trusts and grants. For more information about Primrose Hospice please visit: www.primrosehospice.org Twitter: @PrimroseHospice facebook.com/PrimroseHosp

Club News Bromsgrove & Droitwich Goes Nordic

Visitors to the area may also have noticed people walking with what look like ski poles! Weʼre reliably informed that they are Nordic walking and that it is the fastest growing fitness activity in the world with over 10 million enthusiasts now regularly taking part in what was originally used by super fit cross country skiers as a way to stay fit during the summer. “Itʼs suitable for all ages and fitness levels, simple to learn and really sociable” says Ian Northcott BEM, a local Nordic walking UK Instructor and wellness expert.

“By using the specially designed poles, you can use all the major muscles in the body and burn up to twice as many calories as ordinary walking but the best thing is that the poles actually propel you along so it feels easier! ” he adds. The poles also reduce the pressure on the knees and joints and the gentle upper body movement is great for easing back and neck pain too. Itʼs so effective that it is being used for weight loss, rehabilitation and sports specific training all the over the UK and those that have tried all agree that being outdoors was

energising and that they felt fantastic afterwards! However it is not simply a case of grabbing a pair of poles and walking with them! It requires the correct technique in order to get the whole body working and it is essential you learn this from a qualified Instructor who will ensure you get the full benefit and fastest possible results. Ian from Mercian Nordic Walking offers "come and try" sessions and 2 week technique courses in Bromsgrove. For more details: merciannordicwalking.co.uk

This year come and explore our new theme, Secret & Sacred, and discover the story of Coughton’s unusual collection of objects which the Throckmorton family gathered, kept, and treasured throughout their 600-year history at Coughton. Come and uncover why locks of hair and an old ribbon are just as treasured as grand portraits and precious ivory and discover their hidden stories and why we continue to care for them. With support from our volunteers, we’ve carried out lots of new research to discover more about the experiences of the family and other Catholics during the turbulent years after the creation of the Church of England in the 1530s. In addition to our exhibition throughout the house, you can also join us for our new exhibition-themed events, from talks on the English Reformation to sketching and embroidery workshops, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Our increasingly popular Jigsaw Festival will be helping us kick start our new season and will be returning from Saturday 7 March – Sun 15 March, 11am-5pm, on open days. If you have any jigsaws taking up precious space in your cupboards and you’d like to play a vital part in conserving this beautiful house and its contents for future generations, please call the property for more information.
