EVERYONE is invited to remember their loved ones during the 2019 Lights of Love campaign, organised by Primrose Hospice. Lights of Love provides a unique and special opportunity for people to come together at services in Bromsgrove, Redditch and Rubery, in November and December. People will be given the chance to dedicate a light to a loved one on special Christmas trees in the town as well as have their names included in special remembrance books which can be viewed at various locations. Emma Williams, fundraising manager at Primrose Hospice, said: “Lights of Love is a very special
campaign as it gives everyone an opportunity to remember a loved one. “In return, we ask for a donation to Primrose Hospice, allowing the hospice to continue its vital work supporting patients with life-limiting illnesses, and their families. “Last year we were thrilled to raise over £37,000 which helped us to continue to offer our outstanding care and support free of charge to those that need it.”
This year, people are also invited to attend Carols by Candlelight at Primrose Hospice on Thursday, December 19 from 6pm. Dedications can be made online:primrosehospice.org /supportus/fundraising/lights -of-love. The can also be sent by post or made in person at Primrose Hospice, St Godwalds Road, Bromsgrove, B60 3BW. Restaurant News Best Mediterranean Restaurant Award A spokesperson for The Restaurant Awards Midlands Edition 2019 said: “We would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for contributing to making the Midlands a region well known for its great food, creating an ideal destination for those who seek time to relax.”
On a mission to gain recognition for their dedicated team, husband and wife team Mark and Catherine Houghton put their restaurant Casa Med up for nomination in this year’s Restaurant Awards. The small but perfectly formed restaurant is housed in a beautiful 300year-old building located just off Bromsgrove High Street. Since opening in 2015 Mark and Catherine have been serving authentic tapas with exceptional service in a relaxed and casual environment.
Casa Med was handed its award at The Holiday Inn Hotel in Birmingham, on September 9.
The awards also provided the opportunity to fundraise for a worthwhile cause and helped to raise money for the official charity partner, Make A Wish Foundation UK, a charity that grants wishes to children and young people fighting lifethreatening conditions.
Going head to head with 8 other restaurants in the ʻMediterranean Restaurant of the Yearʼ category, Casa Med proudly claimed its award for the Midlands. With a menu full of dishes inspired from across the Mediterranean, Casa is the ideal place to get together with friends and family and try new foods. Its quirky furnishings, rustic beams and cosy dining rooms set this place apart from the rest.

Is Your Garage Ready for Winter?
Bruce Grant, owner of Garage Doors Worcestershire Ltd
Preparing your garage for the winter months is an important task that can be overlooked. Here is some helpful advice from Bromsgrove-based Garage Doors Worcestershire Ltd. Winter has a chilly habit of creeping up on us! There are several reasons why you should ensure your garage is ready for the winter months. The garage often serves as storage space for many homeowners. You need to make sure your garage protects those items from extreme cold and damp during the winter months. If you spend time working in your garage you will also appreciate a slightly warmer environment.
If you have pipes running through your garage it is essential to keep the space warm to prevent burst pipes. A warmer garage will also help keep your home warmer if you have rooms which share a wall with an attached garage.
The business offers a comprehensive repair or replacement service which can help protect your garage from the harsher weather conditions during the colder months.
Finally, an automated garage door can offer significant benefits when itʼs cold, wet or snowy outside.
Owner Bruce Grant said: “Modern garage doors offer much better insulation features than older models, so it is worth considering a replacement if your door is over 10 years old. However, we appreciate not everyone is in a position to buy a new door, so we are happy to visit to quote for any necessary repairs that will help protect your garage this winter.”
Family-run business Garage Doors Worcestershire Ltd has been operating across Worcestershire for almost 20 years.
Contact Garage Doors Worcestershire Ltd on: 01527 870322 www.gdoor.co.uk
An unsecured or broken garage door is more vulnerable to break-ins during the darker winter nights.

On Friday November 22, Bromsgrove Concerts presents Mark Bebbington (piano) with Jenny Wood and Richard Tattam - for all those who wish you’d carried on with those piano lessons! A prolific recording artist, Mark is appearing at Artrix for the sixth time. The event takes place at 8pm on November 22. Internationally acclaimed for his performances and recordings he has recently toured Europe with the Czech National Orchestra

In May 2019 BBC Music Magazine said: “... the lava tumbles out with astonishing force from Mark Bebbington, who plays with tremendous authority, supported by a vivid recording with an appropriately wide dynamic range.” The concert at Artrix brings a lovely programme of Chopin and also Faure, Franck including Pouleneʼs
piano and wind trio with Jenny Wood and Richard Tattam, superb wind players. Why not have a meal at the Premier Inn and walk across to Artrix for coffee and a brilliant classical concert? Bromsgrove Cricket Club Update We were honoured to be asked to stage matches in the Physical Disability Cricket World Championship, hosting Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, India and Pakistan, and we staged also an International Police T20 Tournament, with police forces from all round the world taking part.
The Birmingham and District Premier League encompasses the best teams from Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire - thus to compete in the League is an accolade in itself and the Clubʼs 1st XI performed very creditably in finishing fifth in Premier 2. Jayden Levitt scored 792 runs, Ash Newfield 759 and Alex Milton 718, whilst Gareth Williams took 44 wickets. The Saturday 2nd, 3rd and 4th XIʼs played in various divisions of the expanded and highly competitive Worcestershire Cricket League and finished 5th, 5th and 6th respectively.
Womenʼs and Girls Cricket continued to grow and flourish, and a number of our Girls represented Worcestershire, whilst several played in our Senior Teams alongside the men. Our Junior Section, providing cricket from the age of 5 upwards, thrived and many youngsters progressed into playing for our Senior Teams.
Finally, to raise funds for the Club and The Primrose Hospice and Cancer Research, we held our inaugural Music Festival – “ #Hello Bromsgrove”. It was a sellout, the day was perfect, we had great feedback and hopefully it will be an event thatʼs here to stay! Wave Goodbye to your Dad Bod Or do you just want to be a bit fitter, a bit stronger, a bit healthier with a bit less fat around the middle so that you can keep up with and stay on top of the demands of work, home, kids and life in general? Once youʼve decided what ʻin shapeʻ looks like to you, then itʼs simply case of what I like to call reverse engineering the process and getting clear on the steps you need to take in order to get to where you want to go.
Matt Smith is a health and fitness coach at Perpetual Wellbeing Health & Fitness in Bromsgrove. For those intimidated by traditional gyms and stereo typical personal trainers.
OK, where do you start?
So you want to get back into shape, or at least youʼre thinking of getting back into shape?
Do you want to be be the next Usain Bolt and win more Golds than youʼve had girls?
First of all you need to make a decision on what getting into shape actually looks like for you. Do you want to be be the next Incredible Hulk with muscles on top of muscles
Finally, (this is the bit most people leave out and why so many never reach their goals), you must make a decision and a commitment to yourself to do whatever it takes to make the changes necessary; so that you can get back into shape. Then you can do more as a Dad, so you can be more of a Dad and so you can struggle a lot less as a Dad. Be Prepared A power cut can present significant challenges. Be prepared by having torches upstairs and downstairs that can easily be found in the dark and stock up on batteries. Keep your mobile phone fully charged so itʼs available if you need to contact someone urgently. Avoid Fire Hazards Only use candles if you have to and be very careful about where you position them. Always extinguish before going to bed. If using portable heaters make sure they are safe and donʼt present a risk of fire or burning. Check your smoke and CO2 alarms regularly.
Electric Blanket Check Check for fraying fabric, scorch marks, exposed elements, soiling, damp patches, worn flex or loose connections. Does it have an old BEAB safety mark? The new sign is white capital letters on a black background. If in any doubt replace your blanket. Ice and Snow Slips and falls can cause nasty injuries; as well as a loss of confidence that can last longer than the physical injuries. Only go out if you have to. Use salt to remove ice and snow from steps and paths. Wear appropriate footwear with a good grip and support around the foot and ankle. Loneliness Winter can be lonely for elderly people on their own. A care worker can provide company and support. For more information contact Care Force Ltd on: 01527 577247 www.care-force.co.uk
