2012-13 Boise State Coaching Staff

Beck Roghaar Head Coach, Third Year Boise State Record: 25-20 Career Recor d: 25-20 Alma Mater : Boise State, 2005

Boise State Tenure (2010-Present) Beck Roghaar enters his third season at the helm of the Boise State women’s tennis program after being hired to lead the team at the start of the 2011 indoor season. Roghaar, who played for the men’s tennis team from 2001-05, had served the previous season as an assistant coach for the men. Roghaar wasted no time in putting his stamp on the women’s program as he guided the Broncos to a Western Athletic Conference runner-up finish in his first season. Boise State concluded the year with a 17-8 mark, which broke the program record for most wins by a first year head coach. Following the Broncos’ outstanding regular season Roghaar was named WAC Coach of the Year. Boise State fell just short of reaching the NCAA tournament, as the Broncos dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to Fresno State in the WAC championship match. Prior to taking over the women’s program Roghaar returned to Boise State in the spring of 2010 as an assistant men’s coach. Despite returning at the semester, Roghaar hit the ground running. He

helped men’s head coach Greg Patton lead the Broncos to the NCAA Championship Tournament behind a 19-12 overall record. Boise State finished the season with nine wins over nationally ranked opponents and a 4-2 record in WAC competition.

Prior to Boise State Before returning to Boise Roghaar began his collegiate coaching career at UNLV in 2007. He made an immediate impact at UNLV, as the Rebels won their first-ever Mountain West Conference tournament championship in his first season with the team. In between his collegiate career and his time at UNLV, Roghaar worked as the Tennis Director at the UC Santa Barbara Family Vacation Center in Santa Barbara, Calif. from 2006-2007. During that time he also was the teaching pro at the Knollwood Tennis Club in Santa Barbara.

Collegiate Playing Career at Boise State As a student-athlete, Roghaar was a team captain at Boise State from 2003-05. He helped lead the Broncos to WAC Championships in 2003 and 2005, as well as Region VII Team Titles in 2003 and 2004. For

his efforts on the court, Roghaar was voted by his teammates Boise State Men’s Tennis Most Inspirational Player of the Year twice (2004 and 2005). Roghaar concluded his career at Boise State with a 52-35 singles record, which included going 24-10 as a senior. He also compiled an 18-6 dual match record in the spring of his senior season. Roghaar excelled in the classroom at Boise State as well, becoming a three-time ITA Academic All-American 2003-05 and a WAC Scholar Athlete from 2001-05. He was named to the WAC All-Academic Team in 2004 and 2005. Roghaar also earned the prestigious Arthur Ashe Leadership Award and was president of Boise State’s Student Athlete Advisory Council.

Personal As a high school student-athlete, Roghaar played his way to the No. 1 ranking in the ITA’s Intermountain Section for U18’s in junior tennis, and was the No. 1 ranked player in Utah in both U16’s and U18’s. Roghaar also competed in the Jr. Davis Cup. Roghaar graduated from Boise State in December of 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. He went on to earn his master’s in new venture management at UNLV, graduating in December of 2009. Beck is married to Laura Mei Roghaar.

Catrina THOMPSON Assistant Coach

Boise State: Second Year Career : Two Years Alma Mater : Notre Dame, 2007

BOISE STATE TENURE (2011-present)

Catrina Thompson enters her second year as an assistant coach at Boise State. Thompson came to Boise State after a standout collegiate career at the University of Notre Dame and one year as a volunteer assistant at Yale University. Catrina’s responsibilities include assisting with the daily operations of the program, as well as recruiting, on court coaching and organizing camps.

Prior to Boise State

Thompson spent the 2010-11 season as a volunteer assistant coach with Yale University of the Ivy League. While with the Bulldogs she helped guide the team to the 2011 Ivy League championship, the second round of the NCAA Tournament, a No.1 ranking in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and a final national ranking of 31st. Other coaching experience includes serving as a tennis instructor at Sutton East Tennis Club in New York City 2008-11.

Collegiate Playing Career

Thompson graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2007 having played at the top singles and doubles positions. She participated in the NCAA championships all four years of her collegiate career. Catrina was a highly

decorated collegiate player for the Fighting Irish where she was a three-time All-American in doubles with her twin sister, Christian. The duo captured the Rivera All-American doubles title in 2005, placed second in 2004 and 2006, and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals as seniors in 2007. Other honors include: two-time Big East Conference MVP, five-time Big East AllTournament Team selection, Notre Dame co-record holder for overall doubles wins in program history, and represented the United States at the 2005 World University Games in Izmer, Turkey.

Personal

Following college Thompson and her sister won four professional tournaments in doubles at competitions in St. Joseph, Mo., Wichita, Kan., Tampico, Meixco, and Houston, Texas. Thompson was raised in Las Vegas, Nev. She earned All-America honors all four years at Bishop Gorman High School, going undefeated with her sister throughout her career. She also helped Bishop Gorman to the Nevada State Championship and won the state doubles title three times. During high school she was co-valedictorian and a silver scholar recipient. In national junior competition she and her sister won national doubles titles on all surfaces. Among the notable 18’s doubles titles were: the 2001 Super National Winter Championship, the 2001 National Clay Courts, 2002 National Grass Court Championship and the Easter Bowl.

Thomas schoeck Volunteer Coach

Thomas Schoeck enters his third year with the Boise State women’s tennis program as a volunteer coach.

Collegiate Playing Career at Boise State

Schoeck, a native of Renningen, Germany, enjoyed a highly decorated career playing for the Boise State men’s tennis team from 200206. Schoeck was a member of three Western Athletic Conference championship teams (2003, 2005 and 2006) while playing to All-WAC honors three times. He was named first-team All-WAC in both singles and doubles in 2005 and 2006, and second team All-WAC in singles and doubles in 2004. Schoeck qualified to compete in doubles at the NCAA National Championships with Luke Shields in 2005 and 2006. Schoeck and Shields played their way to All-America honors in 2005 with a trip to the round of 16 at the NCAA tournament.

Personal

Since concluding his collegiate career Schoeck competed on both the ITF and ATP tours from 2006 to 2008. Schoeck also worked as a hitting partner for Anastasia Myskina, who won the French Open and reached a No. 2 world ranking in 2004. Schoeck returned to Boise State in 2008 to work as a manager for the men’s tennis team until the fall of 2010. Schoeck graduated from Boise State in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, general business management. He is currently working on a master’s of business management.

Played in two tournaments going 4-3 in singles and 2-1 in doubles playing with Bobbi Oshiro .... participated in the Washington State Cougar Classic going 2-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles ... competed at Boise State’s Jack Taylor Classic advancing to the singles White Flight semifinals, finishing 2-1 at the event.

junior (2011-12)

Played in six matches going 1-5 in singles while completing at the number five and six positions ... joined team for the 2012 spring semester as a walk-on ... has been attending Boise State since her freshman year ... was recruited by head coach Beck Roghaar during the semester break.

Boise High School

Played her prep tennis at Boise High School under head coach Tommy Buford…four-time 5A Idaho State Champion in doubles…Finished first in districts as a freshman, junior and senior…was a member of National Honor Society and graduated with a 3.94 GPA.

JUnior (2011-12) Finished her first season as a member of the Bronco squad by teaming up with twin sister Marlena in doubles to earn All-MW Second Team honors ... recorded a 12-18 overall singles mark going 6-4 in the fall, went 6-14 in spring dual matches splitting time at the three, four and five positions ... as part of Boise State’s No. 1 doubles team with sister Marlena went 14-10 overall on the year ... final doubles record with four different partners was 17-13.

VCU (2009-2011) Played two seasons at VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) before transferring to Boise State…finished her career as a Ram with a 14-3 record…was also a member of the No. 3 doubles team, partnering with Dania Yakavleva to finish 16-6 during her sophomore year…played in only five matches as a freshman, going undefeated and winning all but one contest in straight sets.

OTHER Played for TC Hechingen under coach Daniel Pietzuch before coming to the United States…reached a peak German rating of 152nd.

JUnior (2011-12)

Teamed up with twin sister Manuela in doubles to earn All-MW Second Team honors ... named Mountain West Player of the Week on Feb. 15 ... recorded a team-high 10 singles wins during the fall and finished with a team secondbest 21-14 overall record on the year … went 11-9 during spring dual matches playing primarily at No. 2 singles with five appearances at No. 1 ... as part of Boise State’s No. 1 doubles team with sister Manuela went 14-10 overall on the year ... final 2011-12 doubles record playing with Sonia Klamcyznska (71) and sister Manuela was 21-11 ... finished second in the singles Blue Flight at the Jack Taylor Classic during the fall … won the Flight One doubles title at the WSU Cougar Classic with Klamczynska.

Sophomore (2010-11)

Enjoyed another outstanding season at Boise State as a sophomore, leading the Broncos in overall singles wins and also playing to first-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors in doubles…teamed up with Lauren Megale to go 14-9 at No. 1 doubles, including 5-1 against WAC opponents, en route to earning all-conference honors…finished the spring with a 24-13 overall

doubles record after going 10-4 in tournament action during the fall…finished the spring with a 31-10 overall singles record…played primarily at Nos. 4 and 5 singles…compiled a 10-1 record at No. 5 and an 8-4 record at No. 4 singles…concluded the season by going 13-1 in singles matches.

Freshman (2009-10)

Earned an immediate role for the Broncos during her freshman campaign, playing in 24 duals in both singles and doubles…played primarily at No. 6 singles and No. 2 doubles…earned a 32-8 overall singles record as well as a 26-12 record in doubles…was an outstanding 13-1 at No. 6 singles…teamed up with Stephanie Jasper to record a 15-6 dual doubles record…finished the season on an 11-match winning streak in singles…was also 7-3 in her last 10 doubles matches with Jasper…Pietzuch and Jasper scored a big win at No. 2 doubles in Boise State’s 4-1 win over No. 21 ranked Iowa in the NCAA Tournament...was voted to the WAC All-Tournament Team with Jasper in doubles.

Other

Played for tennis club Hechingen under coaches Matthias Martin and Marle Luigart…was a member of the Wuerttembergishe Team Championship in 2007 and 2009…helped her team to the Wuerttemberg League which was a league above what they started at…ranked 132 in the German Women’s rankings most recently…ranked as high as No. 123 in her career…came to Boise State because of the strength of the program and the team.

Played 34 singles matches during the year recording a team-best record of 21-13 ... went 8-6 in singles tournament action during the fall and 13-7 during the spring dual matches splitting time between the No. 4 and 5 positions … recorded an 18-11 doubles mark on the year going 4-5 in the fall playing with three different partners ... teamed up at No. 2 doubles in the spring with Sandy Vo going a team-best 14-6 in dual matches ... won the consolation singles final of the Blue Flight at the Jack Taylor Classic during the fall.

Freshman (2010-11)

Saw significant playing time during her freshman campaign, starting 13 duals at Nos. 5 and 6 singles and seven duals at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles…competed in 27 total singles matches, playing to a 17-10 overall record on the season…went 7-2 at No. 6 singles for the Broncos…also played to an 8-7 record in tournament singles matches during the fall…compiled a 7-8 overall doubles record including a 3-4 record in dual matches.

In Memory of STEVE APPLETON March 31, 1960 — Feb. 3, 2012 “Boise State lost one of its own today. A former Bronco tennis player who never forgot his alma mater, Steve graduated in business and went on to lead one of the nation’s premier companies and enrich in so many ways the community he called home. He played a critical role in transforming Boise State into a research university serving the tech economy of Idaho. I valued his friendship, his generous support, and especially the advice and counsel he provided me personally as we navigated our way through the recent recession. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dalynn, his children and his family as well as his colleagues at Micron.” -- President Bob Kustra, Boise State University Steve Appleton came to Boise State University in 1978 on a tennis scholarship. He was captain of the tennis team his senior year and won the Big Sky doubles championship. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management in 1982. In 2001, he received the university’s prestigious Silver Medallion award for his service to the university and in May 2007 was awarded an honorary doctorate. Appleton served as co-chair of the university’s most recent comprehensive fundraising campaign for scholarships, programs and buildings. He also was a Boise State University Foundation board member from 1995-2002 and was a lifetime Chaffee Guild member. He was instrumental in the development of Boise State’s College of Engineering, which offered its first classes in 1996, and construction of the Appleton Tennis Complex on the Boise State campus. His support has been invaluable to both the College of Business and Economics and the College of Engineering. In 1999, he established the Micron Foundation, which has led to several generous donations to Boise State programs and initiatives, including the Micron Business and Economics Building at the corner of University and Capitol, slated to open later this year, and doctoral programs in the departments of Materials Science and Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering.

ATHLETIC FACILITIES

BRONCO STADIUM & STUECKLE SKY CENTER

In an effort to continue the climb in competition, Boise State has outlined a plan to improve the infrastructure and financial position of its athletic department. The project is called the “Initiative for Athletic Excellence.” It is a detailed plan that lays out the direction for the department and its facilities to ensure the Broncos’ continued growth and success.

CAVEN-WILLIAMS SPORTS COMPLEX

In the last 14 years Boise State’s growth has led to the addition of women’s soccer in 1998, women’s swimming & diving in 2006-07 and softball in 2008-09. In recent years Boise State has built four competition facilities: the state-of-the-art Appleton Outdoor Tennis Center (2002), the Boas Soccer and Tennis Complex (2003), Jacksons Indoor Track (2003 - a joint effort with the city of Nampa) and the Dona Larsen Park which includes new track and softball stadiums (2012). In January of 2006 the Caven-Williams Sports Complex, a 97,000 square-foot indoor practice facility, was opened next to Bronco Stadium. The Boas Indoor Tennis Center also underwent significant renovation with the replacement of the bubbles, while the Stueckle Sky Center expansion to Bronco Stadium which was finished in 2008. The stadium project includes a new press box, luxury suites, banquet halls, new ticket office, a Bronco Shop, and much more. In the summer of 2011, the 10,000-square foot Arguinchona Basketball Complex, including locker rooms, a theater-style film room, lounges and study areas for men's and women's basektball, was completed. Seating capacity for football games increased to 37,000 in the summer of 2012, after phase one of the Boise State football complex and stadium expansion. The full project is expected to be finished by the 2013 football season.

The Mountain West has marked several achievements over its first 13 years of existence, most notably becoming the first to establish a sports television network dedicated solely to an intercollegiate athletic conference (The Mtn.). The Mountain West also was the first to experiment with the coaches’ challenge in the college football instant replay system, and was the first non-automatic-qualifying BCS conference to participate in four BCS bowl games, winning three. Additionally, the Mountain West was the first conference to have a member institution with No. 1 overall picks in both the NFL and NBA drafts in the same year (Utah’s Alex Smith and Andrew Bogut, respectively in 2005). With San Diego State’s Stephen Strasburg claiming the No. 1 pick in the 2009 MLB Draft, the Mountain West is one of two conferences to have the No. 1 selection in each of the NFL, NBA and MLB drafts since the MW was founded in 1999. In 2011-12, the Mountain West was among the first conferences to implement a league-wide state-of-the art basketball instant replay system. The Mountain West is noted for its geographic diversity. Some of the most beautiful terrain and landscapes in the nation can be found within Mountain West boundaries, including the majestic Rocky Mountain range, which borders four MW institutions (Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State and New Mexico). The high plains of Wyoming (elevation 7,220 feet – the highest Division I campus in the nation) contrast with the desert cities of Las Vegas and Reno, home to UNLV and Nevada, while Fresno State and San Diego State add a West coast influence with their locations in Central and Southern California. The inclusion of the Hawai‘i football program extends the Mountain West footprint to the beautiful islands in the Pacific Ocean.

The Mountain West was conceived on May 26, 1998, when the presidents of eight institutions — Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming — decided to form a new NCAA Division I-A intercollegiate athletic conference. The split from a former 16-team conference reestablished continuity and stability among the membership within the new league and signaled the continuation of its tradition-rich, long-standing athletic rivalries. Three of the MW’s eight original members have been conference rivals since the 1960s (New Mexico, Wyoming and Colorado State), while San Diego State (1978) and Air Force (1980) were longtime members as well. UNLV and TCU entered the fold in 1996 and the Rebels continued as one of the original eight institutions that formed the MW in 1999. TCU re-joined the group with its first year of competition in the Mountain West in 2005-06. With conference realignment sweeping the nation in recent years, the MW has been proactive in addressing membership changes. Boise State University joined the Mountain West in 2011-12, followed by Fresno State and the University of Nevada on July 1, 2012. Also on July 1, 2012, the University of Hawai‘i became a football-only member of the Conference. On May 4, 2012, the Mountain West announced the additions of San Jose State University and Utah State University as full-time members effective July 1, 2013. When the Mountain West officially began operations on July 1, 1999, the new league had in place a seven-year contract with ESPN, giving the broadcaster exclusive national television rights to MW football and men’s basketball, and three-year agreements to send the league’s football champion to the Liberty Bowl and a second team to the Las Vegas Bowl. Commissioner Craig Thompson also arranged a third bowl tie-in each of the first three seasons (1999 Motor City, 2000 Silicon Valley, 2001 New Orleans) before securing a four-year deal with the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco in 2002. Entering the 2012 season, the MW has four contracted bowl affiliations – the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas, San Diego Country Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl and Gildan New Mexico Bowl. An innovator in the postseason bowl structure, the MW engineered many “firsts,” as league teams have participated in five inaugural bowl games (2000 Silicon Valley, 2001 New Orleans, 2002 San Francisco (Emerald), 2005 Poinsettia, 2006 New Mexico), as well as placing the first non-automatic-qualifying BCS team into a BCS bowl game with Utah’s appearance in the 2005 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

GYMNASTICS The Mountain West Conference does not sponsor competition for the sport of gymnastics. As a result, the Bronco gymnastics program will re-enter the Western Athletic Conference as an affiliate for the 2012-13 season, making it the 10th overall season in the WAC for Bronco gymanstics.

CONFERENCE AFFILIATIONS CRAIG THOMPSON MOUNTAIN WEST COMMISSIONER ALMA MATER: MINNESOTA Craig Thompson was the Mountain West Conference’s first employee when he was named Commissioner on Oct. 15, 1998. Ever since, Thompson has navigated the newest NCAA Division I conference through the ever-changing landscape of intercollegiate athletics. As the league enters its 14th season of competition in 2011-12, Thompson continues to create and improve the opportunities for Mountain West institutions and student-athletes to be successful both academically and athletically. Since the Mountain West opened its doors on January 4, 1999, Thompson has been committed to excellence in intercollegiate athletics, while promoting the academic missions of its member institutions. Progressive in its approach, the MW has flourished under the guidance of Commissioner Thompson and continues to cultivate opportunities for student-athletes to compete at the highest level, while fostering academic achievement and sportsmanship. He has been instrumental in negotiating nearly $230 million in television revenue and has been an innovator in the postseason bowl structure as MW teams have participated in five inaugural bowl games. Thompson also has positioned the Mountain West for the future with the additions of Fresno State and the University of Nevada on July 1, 2012, and San Jose State University and Utah State University on July 1, 2013. The University of Hawai`i also joined the league as a football-only member on July 1, 2012. His leadership and vision have helped the conference enhance its television revenue and exposure through revolutionary agreements with CBS Sports Network and Comcast to become the first major collegiate athletic conference to launch a dedicated sports channel featuring exclusive programming around its athletic programs, as well as conference news. n the summer of 2006, the centerpiece of this historic relationship was realized with the launch of The Mtn. – MountainWest Sports Network - the first sports network dedicated to serving a single collegiate athletic conference. Thompson has been instrumental in strengthening the position of the Mountain West in the current Bowl Championship Series (BCS) structure. In 2006, he spearheaded an effort that resulted in better access for the MW and more than doubled the annual BCS revenue on an annual basis for nonautomatic-qualifying conferences. The MW has been steadfast in its efforts to find a way to make the BCS system fair for all universities. Through its first 13 years of competition, the Mountain West has participated in 51 bowl games, amassinga 31-20 (.608) all-time record in those contests. Over the last eight seasons, the MW has captured the Bowl Challenge Cup four times and owns the best win percentage in bowl games among the 11 FBS conferences with a 24-12 mark (.667). The MW claimed the 2010, 2009 and 2007 Challenge Cups after finishing each of the three postseasons with 4-1 (.800) records. The league earned its first Cup after registering a 2-1 mark in bowl competition during the 2004 season. The Mountain West is the only conference to win the Bowl Challenge Cup four times since the award’s inception in 2002.

Prior to his current role, Thompson served as the commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference for nearly eight years and as the only commissioner of the American South Conference prior to the merger of the two leagues in 1991. During his eight years at the Sun Belt, he spent the majority of his time addressing national trends and challenges in intercollegiate athletics, television exposure, issues relating to conference membership and promoting corporate involvement. In 1997-98, the Sun Belt instituted a comprehensive sportsmanship policy, which earned Thompson designation as a 1998 Sports Ethics Fellow by the Institute for International Sport. Under Thompson’s leadership, the Sun Belt was active in expansion as it continued to strengthen its posture nationally, adding Florida International University and the University of Denver. Thompson is an integral part of the national landscape in intercollegiate athletics, holding many prestigious NCAA posts. He is currently on the NCAA Football Board of Directors and a member of the BCS administration. Thompson also is a member of the College Football Officiating Board of Managers, LLC, and a consultant for the Task Force on Commercial Activity in Intercollegiate Athletics. He also has served on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee (1995-2000) and was appointed Chair of the committee in July 1999, completing his term September 1, 2000. Over the tenure of his career, Thompson has been a member of the Executive Committee and the Director’s Cup Committee of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), as well as the governing NCAA Council and various Council subcommittees. He has also played a prominent role in hosting numerous men’s and women’s NCAA postseason basketball tournaments in St. Louis, Atlanta, New Orleans and Denver. Prior to its merger with the Sun Belt, Thompson served as the first and only commissioner of the American South Conference, which boasted an NCAA national champion in women’s basketball during its first year. The American South also gained immediate national cable television exposure on ESPN and sent numerous teams into NCAA postseason play during the conference’s four-year history. Preceding his move to commissioner, Thompson served four years as the Director of Communications for the Metro Conference in Atlanta. While at the Metro, he directed the communications operations and administered conference championship events. Thompson originated the Metro Conference Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association, began a weekly radio program with over 300 affiliate stations, and originated a weekly satellite video program involving all Metro institutions. He also took on administrative duties such as coordination of officials, scheduling of tournament and regular-season play, and handling of legislative rules interpretations. Thompson graduated from the University of Minnesota with an undergraduate degree in journalism. Following graduation, he spent two years as assistant sports information director at Kansas State University, earning numerous CoSIDA publication awards. He then spent three years as director of public relations and promotions for the NBA’s Kansas City Kings. Thompson and his wife, Carla, have a son (Ted) and a daughter (Emma).

Head strength and conditioning coach Tim Socha’s philosophy is that student-athletes are not only going to train hard, but that they are going to do the correct exercises that help them excel in their sport. The staff uses variation in the training programs to enhance the student-athletes’ ability to adapt and improve. The variation involves both multi-joint and multi-plane training. Flexibility, core strength and proprioceptive training also is included in all programs. Through all of the training, sport specificity is emphasized, and the one thing that will never be forgotten is that hard work is what wins championships. All 19 Boise State varsity athletic teams utilize the strength and conditioning center. Each team has a sport-specific program designed to help each student-athlete increase his or her athletic potential and decrease the chance of injury. Boise State coaches take pride in the fact that their student-athletes are some of the best conditioned in the nation. The facility is fully equipped with many different machines, as well as various free weight equipment.

Boise State student-athletes receive top-quality care under the direction of six full-time certified athletic trainers and five graduate assistant athletic trainers who are also certified. In addition, there is a large number of student trainers serving all of the Broncos’ sports medicine needs. Boise State has three fully equipped training rooms at Bronco Stadium, the Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex, and at Taco Bell Arena for the convenience of its student-athletes. A fourth will be added for use in Fall 2013 with the completion of the football complex.

IDAHO SPORTS MEDICINE INSTITUTE Our teams’ doctors are conveniently located on the university campus. The Idaho Sports Medicine Institute (ISMI), established in 1979, is part of the Bronco Stadium complex. The ISMI staff is comprised of board-certified and fellowship trained orthopedic surgeons and family medicine physicians specializing in sports medicine, athletic trainers, physical therapists and an exercise physiologist. Drs. George Wade, Kirk Lewis, Scot Scheffel, Michael Gustavel and Jennifer Miller, along with their staff, provide specialized care to patients with active lifestyles. The Bronco Academic Support Program helps all studentathletes take advantage of the many personal and educational opportunities available at Boise State. BRONCOLIFE Boise State Athletics has more to brag about than its accomplishments on the field, in the gym, or on the court these days! The purpose of the BroncoLIFE program is to provide opportunities that will encourage personal investment and enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience at Boise State University. This program is based on the NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs program emphasizing a commitment to the following areas of excellence: ● Academic Excellence ● Athletic Excellence ● Leadership and Personal Development ● Career Development ● Community Service

The 2011-2012 academic year exemplified the commitment of student-athletes in each of these areas: Academic Excellence ● Highest cumulative athletic department GPA on record ● Athletic department has had 10 straight semesters of 3.0 + GPA ● 221 Broncos on the conference All-Academic Teams Athletic Excellence ● Men's Tennis Mountain West Champions ● Swimming and Diving Mountain West Champions ● 11 teams participated in postseason competition Leadership and Personal Development ● Each team was represented by two team members to serve on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to discuss topics related to the student-athlete experience, encourage support of other teams and plan events ● Campus and community consultants met with teams regarding nutrition, safety, and other topics ● Freshmen enrolled in University 101 to learn strategies for college success Career Development ● Student-athletes received valuable information and assistance regarding resume preparation, job search strategies, interview skills, and graduate school planning ● Programming was provided in collaboration with the BSU Career Center, Varsity B Club and Career Athletes ● Juniors and seniors participated in the course Transition from School and Sport to prepare themselves professionally and personally for life after Boise State Community Service ● Student-athletes volunteered over 1,500 hours to the community ● Events and partnering organizations included Boise and Meridian schools, Go On, Make-A-Wish, Operation School Bell and St. Luke's Children's Hospital

THE UNIVERSITY WHAT YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW ABOUT BOISE STATE Boise State University is Idahoâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s metropolitan research university, located in the stateâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s main population center and capital city, a hub of government, business, the arts, health care, industry and technology. The campus is the home of 11 Idaho Professor of the Year honorees since 1990, the national awardwinning Talking Broncos student debate and speech team and the two-time Tostitos Fiesta Bowl champion Bronco football team. More than one million visitors come to campus annually for Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning speakers, Bronco football, the Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Celebration and other events. Boise State is located less than an hour from skiing, whitewater rafting and a host of other outdoor recreational opportunities. Boise State generates $330 million in economic impact on the state in jobs, earnings and sales while educating the work force of tomorrow. UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT DR. ROBERT W. KUSTRA, Boise State President His administration has been marked by an emphasis on upgrading admissions standards, improving the undergraduate experience and creating a vibrant campus life, and increasing the number of graduate and doctoral programs, especially in science and engineering. In 2012-13, Boise State will offer three new doctoral programs.

Dr. Robert Kustra is in his tenth year as president of Boise State University, Idaho’s largest public university with an enrollment of nearly 20,000 students served by 2,800 faculty and staff. Early in his tenure, he established a strategic goal for Boise State as a metropolitan research university of distinction. The last decade has seen unparalleled growth that has redefined the university in academics, research and athletics, including a 20 percent increase in student enrollment, nearly a tripling of faculty awards and grants for research, and 17 major construction projects.

Dr. Kustra led the first comprehensive campaign in university history, Destination Distinction, reaching in 2011 its goal of $185 million in private support for faculty, student scholarships and campus infrastructure. He is also instrumental in the fundraising drive to expand Bronco Stadium and the launch of a new scholarship campaign. With a long and distinguished career in public service in Illinois, Dr. Kustra served two terms as lieutenant governor, following 10 years in the Illinois legislature, where he served in leadership. He also chaired the Illinois Board of Higher Education, responsible for funding and oversight of the state’s nine public universities. Prior to joining Boise State, Dr. Kustra served a term as president of the Midwestern Higher Education Commission, following his presidency

of Eastern Kentucky University. He has held faculty positions at Northwestern University, the University of IllinoisChicago, Loyola University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois-Springfield. Dr. Kustra was a member of the NCAA Division I board of directors and executive committee and served on the Presidential Task Force on the Future of Intercollegiate Athletics. He also served as a Commissioner of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. In 2007, he was inducted into the Idaho Hall of Fame and was named the Most Influential Person in the Treasure Valley by The Idaho Statesman. Dr. Kustra hosts a weekly radio show, Reader’s Corner, for the National Public Radio affiliate in Boise. Now in its 10th year, the show features conversations with some of the nation’s leading authors about issues and ideas that help shape our world. Dr. Kustra holds degrees from Benedictine College and Southern Illinois University, and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He and his wife, Kathy, have two grown children, three grandsons, and treasure the memory of their son, Steve.

BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS MARK COYLE, Executive Director of Athletics at Boise State Coyle joined the University of Kentucky from the University of Minnesota, where he served nearly four years in a number of capacities, most recently as Associate Athletics Director for External Relations. In this role, he oversaw the corporate sponsorship and suite sales of Gopher Sports Properties, marketing and promotions, athletics communications, video services, the ticket office, licensing and gophersports.com.

After being hired as Director of Athletics on December 1, 2011, Mark Coyle officially joined Boise State University to lead its 19-sport athletics department on January 5, 2012. Coyle came to Boise State from the University of Kentucky, where he served as the Deputy Director of Athletics. In this role, Coyle oversaw the day-to-day operations of an $83 million, self-sufficient, 22-sport athletics department. He served as the sport administrator for men's basketball and volleyball, and also handled the management of scheduling contracts for football and men's basketball.

As a member of Minnesota's executive management team, Coyle was responsible for assisting with the supervision of the day-to-day operations of the department, including creating and implementing the athletics budget, hiring coaches, administrators and staff.

In addition, Coyle gained valuable experience in ticket operations at Florida State University and the University of Miami (Fla.). Coyle (11/11/68) received his bachelor's degree in English from Drake University in 1991. He earned his master's degree in teaching from Drake University in 1992 and a master's degree in sports administration from Florida State University in 1993. He is married to Krystan, who is a doctor of physical therapy, and they have three children - Grace, Nicholas and Benjamin.

Prior to joining Minnesota, Coyle was the Vice President of the Collegiate Sports Division at Host Communications, Inc. Coyle helped manage multi-media marketing rights agreements with several Division I universities and conferences, including the University of Kentucky, the University of Texas, Florida State University, the University of Tennessee, the University of Notre Dame and the Southeastern Conference.

While at Kentucky, fundraising reached record levels in annual seat donations and capital pledges, improving facilities for multiple programs, including football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, men's and women's track and field, softball, baseball and rifle. During his time at Kentucky, the athletics department's operating budget increased $28 million. Additionally, Coyle oversaw the dayto-day management of the multi-media rights agreement with IMG College, valued at more than $78 million.
