NCAA Appearance
His teams have participated in the NCAA West Regionals six times, a feat no other basketball coach has accomplished at SSU. A true student of the game, Rigby’s squads emphasize teamwork, defense, and hustle. In 1997-98, Rigby led SSU to their first-ever conference championship and what was at the time a school record 20 wins. In addition, the team enjoyed their first trip to the NCAA tournament. He capped off the season by being named NCAC Coach of the Year. Rigby was also honored as CCAA Co-Coach of the Year after guiding his 2001-02 team to a 21-8 record and the second round of the NCAA tourney. One of the most successful high school coaches in the area, Rigby was the head coach at Ursuline High School in Santa Rosa for ten seasons. At Ursuline, he compiled an oustanding 253-54 record while capturing nine North Bay League championships and the 1992 CIF Division IV State Championship. After his stint at Ursuline, Rigby joined the staff at Santa Rosa Junior College for two years prior to his arrival at Sonoma State.

COACHING STAFF
AMANDA HANNEMAN
ASSISTANT Coach
Amanda Hanneman, who played NCAA Division I basketball at the University of Missouri, will enter her second season as the head assistant coach for the Sonoma State women’s basketball program in 2012-13. Hanneman, a native of Blue Springs, Missouri, comes to Rohnert Park after spending the 2010-11 season as a volunteer coach at Avila University in Kansas City, an NAIA Division I program. Before that, she played four seasons for the Missouri Tigers, a member of the Big 12 Conference. “I feel very fortunate to have Amanda join our program,” Rigby said. “All of the folks back in Missouri at Avila University and at the University of Missouri could not say enough good things about Amanda’s character, basketball knowledge and work ethic . Having played successfully in the Big 12 will be a tremendous resource for our student-athletes. I’m really looking forward to working with Amanda.” She helped the Avila University women’s basketball team to its first-ever NAIA Division I National Tournament last season after the Eagles won the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Tournament. The team ended the season at 20-13. In addition to her one-year coaching stint, Hanneman brings a wealth of knowledge for the game from her highly-decorated careers at the high school and college level. At Mizzou, she was a four-year letterwinner (2006-10) and two-year starter for the Tigers. Hanneman ranks sixth in school history for most career three-point field goals (113), most three-point field goals in a single-season (58 in 2009-10) and best three-point field goal percentage in a single-season (.414 in 2009-10). She also served as a member of Missouri’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). A two-sport athlete at Blue Springs South High School in Blue Springs, Missouri, Hanneman excelled in both basketball and golf. On the hardwood, she was an All-State performer as a senior and was a Suburban Big-Seven AllConference, Examiner’s All-Area selection as a sophomore, junior and senior. She also added Metro Sports TV AllMetro honors her final two years at Blue Springs South. She was the Jaguars’ scoring leader in each of her final three seasons and eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau, finishing with 1,290 career points, the third-best mark in school history. On the golf course, Hanneman was also an All-State selection, helping Blue Springs South to four consecutive conference championships and four consecutive state tournament appearances. She was also the individual conference champion in 2003 and 2005 while being named as The Examiner’s Player of the Year in 2003. In 2004, Hanneman earned the Harry C. Devine Award for outstanding performance, leadership and sportsmanship from the Kansas City Golf Association.

THE CCAA The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) has been one of the nation’s most successful intercollegiate athletic conferences since its establishment in December 1938. The 12-member league is home to some of the nation’s finest NCAA Division II athletic programs in Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay, Cal State L.A., Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Stanislaus, Chico State, Humboldt State, UC San Diego, San Francisco State and Sonoma State. These institutions compete in seven women’s and six men’s CCAA-sponsored sports. Fall sports include men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. Men’s and women’s basketball are contested in the winter, and women’s tennis, men’s golf, men’s and women’s outdoor track & field, softball and baseball comprise spring competition. CCAA members have won 151 NCAA Championships (100 men, 48 women) which is far and away the most of any Division II conference. The CCAA has undergone several changes in conference membership since charter members UC Santa Barbara, Fresno State, San Diego State and San Jose State came together to form the league in 1938. Over the past 68 years, a number of institutions have been members of the CCAA, including Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Chapman, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, Pacific, Pepperdine, UC Riverside, UC Davis and Grand Canyon University. Sonoma State University is an NCAA Division II member and part of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and Western Water Polo Association (WWPA). Ten of SSU’s sports are in the CCAA, water polo is in the WWPA, and men’s and women’s tennis is a Division II independent. Sonoma State athletics got its start in 1964 with the school’s first men’s basketball team. Through the years, the Seawolves have had much success including national championships in 1990 (women’s soccer), 2002 (men’s soccer) and 2009 (men’s golf). MISSION STATEMENT: “The goal of the Sonoma State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is to provide a positive, equitable, and diverse environment for the student-athletes and staff. All athletic staff members are responsible for fostering these priorities via role modeling and mentoring student-athletes while upholding a competitive spirit that stresses amateurism, ethical conduct, good sportsmanship, and rules compliance. Priorities for all student-athletes include: academic excellence, competitive success, and community outreach.”
