Meridian Technology Center broke ground on its Stillwater campus in 1973. Since then, our board of education and employees have been committed to creating a highly trained workforce that meets the business and industry needs of the district. We’ve done that through our full-time career training programs, short courses that focus on personal and professional development, customized workforce and economic development programs, and entrepreneurial support. For nearly half of a century the location for these efforts was at 1312 S. Sangre Road in Stillwater. This year marks a new era for Meridian and you as the individuals we serve. Residents of our 10 partner communities now have a second location to learn – our new South Campus located in Guthrie at 3025 S. Division Street. Our South Campus will initially focus on workforce and economic development efforts. It includes meeting space dedicated to our personal and professional development courses offered during the day and in the evening. The new facility includes classrooms and labs that district residents can use for computer training, health care education, industrial training, leadership and staff development programs, and safety training. In addition, the South Campus will also be home to our upcoming film crew training initiative and law enforcement continuing education courses. Our second business incubator, The Peak, includes co-working space for local residents and light manufacturing space for entrepreneurs to grow their businesses. The campus also features a 7,000-square-foot exhibit hall that can host events both large and small. While we now have two campus locations, we still have one mission – to educate, enrich lives and secure economic futures. Our team takes great pride in providing an extraordinary experience for learning and being a passionate partner for success. We hope that regardless of where you live in the district, you consider our South Campus your campus too. Additionally, if there’s something that you’d like to see us offer at either location, please let us know.

Email replies that show up a week later. Video chats full of “oops, sorry, no you go.” Ambiguous text messages. Weird punctuation you can’t make heads or tails of. How did we lose our innate capacity to understand each other? Humans rely on body language to connect and build trust, but with most of our communication happening from behind a screen, traditional body language signals are no longer visible. In her book Digital Body Language, author Erica Dhawan combines cutting-edge research with engaging storytelling to decode the new cues that have replaced traditional body language across genders, generations and culture. In this fast-paced session, facilitator Anna Irwin will provide strategies from Dhawan’s book to turn your daily misunderstandings into a set of collectively understood laws that foster connection insights and build trust and clarity in our ever-changing world. 3/08

“Yes, AND.” Creating Community Through Collaboration

So often women feel as though we need to climb and push against one another to go far and be the best. When the dust settles, we often pick up our accolades and look around to realize we are standing on a metaphorical island, exhausted and alone. What if it didn’t have to be this way? What if instead of looking across the table and wishing we had what someone else has in the ways of natural gifts and abilities, we honored them? What if instead of closing ourselves off, we create space by sliding our chairs over to make room for more? What if we say “yes” to the talents I bring to that table, AND “yes” to yours? 4/28

An A.A.S. is a technical workforce degree and is a great path for someone who plans on entering the workforce immediately after earning the degree. College credit is specific to the technical workforce degree and usually does not transfer to a bachelor’s degree.
