Evaluation Activity 3 I would try and get IPC media to distribute my music magazine because it is one of the most known company’s for distributing music magazines. I would like to advertise my music magazine on music channels such as kiss because this is one of the most popular music channels amongst teenagers so I feel my magazine would benefit from this. I would compare my magazine to NME as we are both trying to attract the same audience this could be considered as a draw back because NME’s audience is declining already my magazine might be seen as competition for it. There are lots of the same types of magazine as you can see from the side for example there are 3 magazines alone just on shooting this reflects the amount of money IPC publishes have. As for price and profit, When I asked my target audience ‘How much would you be willing to pay for a music magazine’ I gave 5 options ‘under 50p, 50p‐1, 1‐2, 3+’ my ‘£3.00+’ was the least popular Answer and I believe this may be the case because it was the most expensive price. My most popular answer was 50p‐£1 which was the second cheapest price I had as an option. This may have linked in with the fact that 11 out of the 22 people I asked didn’t have a job therefore £3 was too expensive and they thought that 1.50 was a fair price. If I was to do this task again I may aim to up my target audience to 20‐30 year olds as then I may be able to potentially try to attract a higher social classification for example rank C2 or C1 as this would be more beneficial as these people would be earning more money they would have more to spend on extras and this is when my magazine would benefit most. I would advertise my music magazine in shops such as HMV where they sell music CD’s, films and posters regarding certain bands. This is one of the most popular shops to buy music and films from and so I think that advertising my music magazine here would be a good place to choose. I am not currently familiar with them selling any other music magazines so this could be a risk seeing as they do not sell any currently but it would be a risk I was willing to take. If I decided that I would not go for selling my music magazine at HMV then I would sell it in supermarkets such as Tesco’s and Asda because they sell a range of different magazines.
