OBJECTIVE : Design a furniture piece that is suitable for a hospitality seng. Submit for Flexsteel Furniture Competition for 2018 Spring Hospitality Furniture line. CONCEP T: Deconstructivism - ‘an architectural movement or style influenced by deconstruction that encourages radical freedom of form and the open manifestation of complexity in a building rather than strict aention to functional concerns and conventional design elements (such as right angles or grids)’ D ESI G N DESCRIPTION: The sofa created for the competition encompasses a traditional shape with modern fabric detail. Using the idea of deconstructivism in fashion replicating the folds of an elegant dress on a piece of furniture was the main goal in the project. Covering the sides and back with 2” pleats creates interest inside the design and can be placed in a variety of sengs.

O BJE CTIVE : Create a piece of furniture from recycled and reclaimed materials. The piece can be produced from any materials, but students are encouraged to use found objects. Design a new product out of old ones. CONC EPT: The idea of a magazine table has been around for years,
as has dresser drawers and bookshelves. But what if one put those things together? With this question, the Magazine Shelf was born – a timeless hodge podge of items, literally modge podged together with pages from magazines. This is furniture for the ages, immortalizing fleeting moments in time, providing useful storage, making use of discarded bedroom furniture, and easily sparking conversations at dull dinner parties.
F I NAL PRODUCT: The end result reflects a lile different from the initial conceptual sketch. Instead of tiny rolled up pages, the sides are covered in pictures modge podged together. Instead of a shelf made from rolled up magazines, the center of the drawer sports a stained piece of wood that matches the drawer front.
