PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP EXPERIENCE THE IMPORTANCE OF PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS Truly visionary projects are opportunities to combine a city's built environment with the ingredients of complete communities. From economic and fiscal policy to social and cultural initiatives, merging public and private interests is a complex and challenging endeavor, but one that makes even the most ambitious projects achievable. A successful partnership is not just “the deal” or agreement on business terms. Of equal importance is a defined process by which collaboration either facilitates a shared vision, clear goals, and successful implementation or creates and adversarial environment where the net benefits are less for all.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED IN PRACTICE TODAY Brookfield’s experience in PublicPrivate Partnership (“P3”) projects offers cities and local leaders a level of certainty and credibility that is unique in the market. With constrained levels of public resources, increased pressure on community outcomes and greater accountability for financial investments, the credibility and the ability to deliver from a private sector partner are minimum requirements in today’s environment. Brookfield is well-positioned to deliver as a strategic partner for the Falcons and Metro Atlanta.

OUR
PEOPLE + CULTURE
IT STARTS WITH OUR PEOPLE FOSTERING DIVERSITY + INCLUSION Having a workforce encompassing and encouraging varied backgrounds and perspectives is critical for business success. Therefore, we are committed to embedding diversity and inclusion across our organization. Our focus begins at recruitment, continues in leadership training programs, is woven into our policies and procedures, and is emphasized on a daily basis as part of our culture. As a global firm, we know that the best ideas come from having people of different backgrounds, perspectives, experiences and skills across all businesses, levels of seniority and regions. We also believe that it is not enough to simply have a diverse employee base—we seek to leverage the benefits of diversity by upholding an inclusive environment that encourages contribution from all individuals and provides equal development and advancement opportunities. Our initiatives in this area include:
• Created and implemented a global positive work environment policy that sets a high global standard and makes it everyone’s responsibility to uphold a respectful environment.
• Introduced a leadership training program that sets clear expectations for our leaders in terms of their role in helping all team members achieve their potential in a positive work environment. The training emphasizes building trust with their teams and becoming aware of unconscious biases, and provides guidance on how to add rigor to decision-making— particularly in recruiting and performance feedback.
• Ongoing focus on diversity in our recruitment approach: — Actively seek a diverse slate of candidates — Have a diverse interview panel.
• Established internal groups and networks, including a global Brookfield Women’s Advisory Committee, to connect with female employees and provide insight to management.
• Formed Diversity & Inclusion Advisory groups in some sectors and launched unconscience bias in certain regions and sectors.
• Developing a speaker series focused on relevant social issues such as Holocaust survivors, Black Lives Matter, Immigration, LGBTQ+, Women’s Rights, etc.
• Creating a local Rotational Internship program in Chicago through our Retail team with with two paths – Operational (Leasing, Business Development, Development, Construction, Asset Management and Marketing) and Corporate (Finance, Accounting, Information Technology and Legal) and additionally, building an Apprenticeship program for entry level positions in the Property Management industry.

PROJECT DESTINED In 2018, Brookfield acquired two development sites in the Bronx neighborhood of Mott Haven, with plans to develop a large scale residential led project delivering over 1,300 apartments, almost 20,000 square feet of retail and community facility space, and the largest public waterfront park in the South Bronx. Given the project’s magnitude, Brookfield made a concerted effort to engage with the local community and ensure that current and future generations of Bronxites will benefit from the work we are undertaking. Project Destined is a real estate-based youth education program that promotes financial literacy, leadership development, and access to mentorship for urban youth. Scholars gain exposure to all aspects of the real estate investment life cycle while learning from real industry professionals, analyzing real opportunities, and helping to invest real capital within their own communities. Beyond Brookfield’s financial support, Brookfield employees leveraged their real estate expertise and engaged with the program via mentorship, teaching opportunities, and event based volunteering.
