Most drums have been constructed based on tradition and appearance, with some attention to the resulting sound through trial and error. Now, Mapex has reversed the process, utilizing the “Concept Hybrid” formula to start with the desired sound in mind. Leveraging their 30 years of drum making experience, the DESIGN LAB was created to develop the innovations required to bring these sonic concepts to life. Our ultimate goal is to strengthen the position of Mapex as a foremost authority on drum design. Using one of a kind sound inspirations and conceived by a revolutionary â&#x20AC;&#x153;Concept Hybridâ&#x20AC;? formula. The Design Lab creates unique voices, each with a combination of the artistry of instrument making and the modern science of drum design.

what is concept hybrid? Definition: The process by which multiple sound concepts are combined into a single instrument, resulting in the creation of a new, unique voice. The “Concept Hybrid” approach uses the specific blending of different woods, bearing edge profiles, hoop styles, reinforcement rings, lug casings, snare wires, drumheads and even shell finishes to affect the performance and character of a drum. Using this “Sound First” approach, a multiple-tone, sonic concept is chosen and then brought to life by the Mapex Design Lab team of Artists, Engineers and Designers.

Now, with a revolutionary approach to instrument design, the NEW Black Panther Design Lab system of drums brings a no holds barred approach to take the Mapex legacy to the next level. Drawing upon the culmination of 30 years of engineering, innovation, artistry and drum craftsmanship, these new drums represent a BREAKTHROUGH in the evolution of acoustic drum science. Relying upon the expertise and experience of renowned artists, each new instrument utilizes the Concept Hybrid approach to begin with a specific sound clearly in mind. Rather than allowing readily available materials and processes to dictate the sonic properties of the instrument, the Design Lab team uses their extensive knowledge of drumbuilding to make the desired sound a reality, doing whatever it takes to bring that concept to life. the logo The new BPDL logo merges core elements of a sound wave and drumstick, representing sound as the central focus of all BPDL designs. The scientific and technological look reflects the concept of “modern Science”. The “Gold” color brings prestige and high-end texture, while the “Silver” reflects the engineering, innovation, artistry and drum craftsmanship that lend to this BREAKTHROUGH in the evolution of acoustic drum science. A specific gradient effect has been added to both the “Gold” and Silver” versions, creating the impression of a metallic sheen. The design and color of the Black Panther Design Lab logo should not be changed, not should the “Gold” or Silver” coloration or gradient effect be revised.

color application To successfully achieve series consistency, use the color palette pie charts shown on the right to help balance the primary and supporting colors across all BPDL branded assets. Color proportions and transparencies can adjusted to suit any application need as long as the pie chart on the right is followed to achieve an overall balance and harmony between all elements on the layout.
