Science and resilience research at Jamaica Bay promotes the understanding of our urban ecosystem and its resilience and sustainability.
Our students receive funding from the National Institute of Science and the National Science Foundation.
Each year our faculty scientists are awarded millions of dollars from foundations and government funding sources to pursue medical, pharmaceutical, environmental and technological research. This means students are taught and mentored by professors who are actively involved in today’s most important scientific initiatives. Current projects include constructing robots and other kinds of artificial intelligence for civilian and military applications, developing green chemistry components for cancer treatments, and studying ways to protect New York City’s wetlands and coastlines. Best of all, students are given the opportunity to work across the school’s disciplines and encouraged to tap into the skills and knowledge found in other fields, which help develop distinctive insights and creative problem-solving abilities.
You will conduct the kind of research that leads to important scientific discoveries.
Students who graduate from our B.A.-M.D. program are guaranteed acceptance to SUNY Downstate College of Medicine.
“One of the most rewarding experiences was participating in the research of several faculty members and being given the opportunity to present the research at national conferences. It was exciting to be part of important research and speak about it outside the classroom.” — Isabel Rodriguez ’12, psychology; full scholarship to University of Rochester’s graduate program in clinical psychology

Student Life
College is not just about what you learn in the classroom. It’s also discovering things about yourself, engaging in different activities, and meeting interesting people. No matter what your academic, artistic, athletic, cultural, political, social or spiritual interests, you’ll find something at Brooklyn College you’ll want to do, with people who share your passion. Each Tuesday and Thursday, the campus bursts with activities. Our two quads are often taken over by one of our many registered clubs, Greek chapters or student gatherings. Meet up with friends at the Student Center to play video games or a round of pool, or just relax in the café. Head over to the West Quad Center to shoot a few hoops, pick up a game of volleyball, swim some laps in the pool, or work out in the fitness center.
Your world will expand beyond the classroom.
