Performance Cubes Light, Air, Structure Semester One

The performance cubes were designed with three core questions, how air moves about the cube, how light diffuses and bounces around the cube, and how much structural loads could a cube take. I designed the air cube with a repeatable ribbon like element made out of basswood that interlocked into each other. The light cube held colored liquids which scattered light and trapped light in the spheres. The structural cube was made with ranging sizes of plaster discs which interlocked with each other. The disc were movable which made for a interchangeable column.

Super Cube Semester One

The super cube was a combination of two of the previous performance cubes, the air and light cube. I took the concept of the repeatable ribbon elements of the air cube which allowed air to move through and combined it with the spheres of the light cube. The spheres were attached to the interior of the ribbons and allowed for a staircases to be formed on the interior. Some of the spheres were also hollow allowing for another layer of interior spaces.

Domestic Cube Semester One

The domestic cube was designed to interact with my peer’s projects on the site. I was also designing for the hypothetical occupants of a meteorologist and astrologist. I wanted the rockite core of the building to move the occupants to constructed moments which was the neighbors and the sky around them. As the occupants move up through the building they come to windows on the attached facade that are directed towards these views.

Red Tide A Recycling Center Semester Two

Red Tide - Diagram

7

The Red Tide recycling center is a folded structure that only touches the ground on the perimeter of the structure. The folded plate roof folds down to create barriers for the sorting areas of the different materials and also folds down to create the office space which hovers about 10’ off the ground which allows for easy flow for people and vehicles.

Jareth Dome Chicago Art Department

9

10

The Jareth Dome was created for a Chicago Art Department fundraiser, The Crystal Ball. It was made out of newspaper fortune tellers, glue, spray paint, and hung with string about a foot off the ground. It served as quiet space for party goers to get away from the festivities for a short period. The dome received a great reaction from the crowd.

The Jareth Dome was a collaborative effort between myself, Alex Giesler, Caroline Schlosser, Collin Tanner, Bridget Owen, Andres Santos, Bryant Kimball.
