COOK COUNTY SOUTHLAND JUVENILE JUSTICE COUNCIL The Mission of the Cook County Southland Juvenile Justice Council (CCSJJ) of South Suburban Cook County Illinois is to decrease juvenile delinquency in: establishing partnerships; strengthening resources; implementing diversion opportunities Brookwood has partnered with the CCSJJ to provide group counseling sessions with the Midwest Family & Community Resources for up to 30 students per building. Also Mr. Alexander of WiseWorks, LLC will provide training to staff on restorative practices.

YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a program designed for adults to help adolescents who are experiencing mental health or addiction challenges or is in crisis. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

MENTAL HEALTH AND SEL RESOURCES

MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORTS Our district uses the a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) framework which incorporates aspects of RTI. MTSS is a holistic system ultimately designed to remove academic, behavioral, and socialemotional barriers, and to meet the needs of all learners to become college and career ready.

Whereas RTI focuses on identifying individual student needs, MTSS focuses on creating systemic conditions of support, ensuring that the educational environment allows students to succeed.

SECOND STEP

Second Step® programs help students build social-emotional skills—like nurturing positive relationships, managing emotions, and setting goals—so they can thrive in school and in life.

SEL time is provided at the beginning and end of the day daily. Teachers lead the classroom sessions. Social workers support SEL lessons with weekly push-in sessions.

UNIVERSAL SOCIAL WORK SERVICES Two Social Workers at each school to provide push in and pull out services to all students.

Social Work support can include ongoing support sessions for anxiety, executive functioning skills, conflict resolution, bullying, etc.

Social Workers provide support throughout the day and assist with crisis, DCFS, and SASS calls.

PANORAMA Panorama's research-backed socialemotional learning assessment meet the needs of the district by selecting 4-7 CASEL aligned areas of focus. Review and analyze data by school, demographic, grade level, or other subgroups to find opportunities for growth, celebrate student successes, and set goals at the district, school, or individual student level.

POSITIVE BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS

PBIS

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day.

Districtwide expectations: Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful Tier 1 supports include: Cool Tools, monthly celebrations, and PBIS store Tier 2 supports include: Check-in Check-out and small group supports Tier 3 supports include: Individualized intensive interventions to meet the students needs.

ANTI-BULLYING MONTHLY ACTIVITIES

Bullying is a pattern of behavior, rather than an isolated incident.

Children who bully usually come from a perceived higher social status or position of power, such as children who are bigger, stronger, or perceived to be popular.

Monthly activities will be created by the social workers to present to each school community.

ERIN'S LAW CURRICULUM: BE SEEN BE HEARD “Erin’s Law” requires that all public schools in each state implement a preventionoriented child sexual abuse program. The Be Seen and Heard© sexual abuse prevention curriculum is evidence-based, researchbased and proven to be effective. It meets Erin’s Law mandate requirements and CDC guidelines for recommended solutions to reducing the mental and physical health consequences stemming from child sexual abuse and physical abuse.

Brookwood provides the program four times a year to all students.

Parents may opt their student out of the program.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION TRAINING Conflict Resolution Education teaches students how to analyze conflicts they are involved in and approaches they can take to handle them, as well as communication skills and processes for resolving them.

Social Workers will provide a weekly session with small groups throughout the year.

RAINBOWS FOR ALL CHILDREN Small groups provide a safe environment that encourages communication while identifying, navigating and discussing difficult feelings that accompany loss.

All social workers are trained in the program and will provide a secondary group based on need.
