From The Principal... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! This school year has been very enjoyable and productive through the first half of the year. Our students have encountered challenges and numerous successes in their classes thus far. Our staff continually strive to meet all of our students’ academic, social and emotional needs. We are very proud of the work our students have done up to this point in the school year. Thank you for your role as parents/guardians in ensuring that your children are ready to learn at school each day. We continually ask all students to Do their Best and to Do what is Right! We will all continue to

work hard to make the second half of the year as enjoyable and academically rewarding. As we enter the new year and have the long, cold stretch from January through February, please encourage your student to continue to put forth their best effort. We ask all parents to make sure that their child attends school each day. School attendance is extremely important for the success of the student. Please ensure that every effort is made to ensure that yourchild arrives to school on time and only misses when absolutely necessary. If your child is late to school or needs to miss due to an illness or appointment, please

If we cannot reach a parent or emergency contact by 10:00 a.m., by law, we are mandated to send the local police to do a well-being check.
Thank you for your continued support! You are an important part of the Brookwood Community! Sincerely.

Five (5) Essential Survey For Parents, Students & Teachers...
Parent Tips For Middle Schoolers... - Protect Sleep -
Pediatricians indicate that children in the middle school age range need nine to nine and a half hours of sleep per night. Try to make sure your child hits this mark most of the time.
- Create A Quiet Zone -
Establish a quiet workplace without noise or other distractions so children can complete homework undisturbed.
- Safeguard Weeknights -
Protect evening time during the week so children can be home, completing homework and studying for tests.
- Take Time For 25 -
Make sure your child has regular access to books, reading at least 25 per year.
- ID Intelligence -
Identify what your child is good at, and give him many chances to hone skills in this area.
JAN
The 5Essentials Survey provides school districts with detailed data on school culture and climate by inquiring into five (5) critical areas for school improvement. Parents were given the opportunity to participate in the survey during Parent Teacher Conferences. Students and Teachers will be completing the survey starting in January. Parents are still able to log on at home to complete the survey until February 15th. Here is the link: https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/ parent/login/

Conflict Resolution Training For 7th Graders! Research shows that when conflict occurs in middle school environments, students affected often lack the developmental maturity and interpersonal skills necessary to ensure healthy outcomes without adult guidance. Our hope that once trained, students will have the needed skills to help resolve any conflicts they might encounter throughout life.
