ISSUE: 010 / JUNE YEAR: 2022
HICKORY BEND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL It’s not enough to say that we’ve had a good school year. This year was incredibly challenging on many levels. We were persistent, driven, and determined to be successful. We leaned on each other, supported one another, and realized that there is so much more to school than just “books.” We accepted the challenge of establishing a “new normal” and triumphed over any hurdle that stood in the way of our goals. We have had so much more than just a good year: We’ve had a victorious year! As we end this school year and look forward to the next, please allow me to extend my gratitude to our School Board for their support and tenacity. Without their hardworking faithfulness we would not have been able to run programs, purchase supplies, or obtain needed human resources. Our Superintendent, Ms. Bethany Lindsay, was a true Champion for our children, fighting for their rights and needs, taking only “Yes” for an answer when it came to deciding on what we can do to make education in our district the best for children. The support and dedication of our School Board and Superintendent was crucial to our success. A heartfelt thank you goes out to them. Ronisha Dubose | Principal

ANTI-BULLY PLEDGE...
We will treat others with RESPECT and KINDNESS. We will have the COMPASSION to not be a bully. We will have the COURAGE to not be a bystander. It is our RESPONSIBILITY to help others and to report bullying.

THE SENSATIONAL SINGERS What A Glorious Year! The Hickory Bend Sensational Singers had their final performances of the year on May 12th at the Fine Arts Night and on June 2nd and 3rd for the Hickory Bend 4th Grade Step-Up and Kindergarten Graduation ceremonies…. and you guessed it - they were Sensational!!! The students received awards and had a fun time at their pizza party following their Fine Arts show. To celebrate the end of a fantastic year, they enjoyed a skating trip to Lynwood Roller Rink. They sing well and they party hard! Great job Sensational Singers!

DADDY/DAUGHTER DANCE The dads were “suited and booted” to dance with their precious little girl! It was indeed a memorable night as Dad’s and Father-Proxies held the limbo stick, danced to the music, and even got a little silly at the photobooth. Special thanks to Mr. Marvin Martin, Sr. (that’s Principal Dubose’s Dad) for reading a special Daddy-Daughter poem… and for sharing the special moment with our Principal.

Congratulations to Tyler Willimham, Justin Bryant, Nigel Albright, and Kailey Uhter for winning bicycles!!!! The other forty-four (44) students left with a happy consolation prize :)

VISITORS If you need to come into the school for any reason, for safety reasons, you will be required to wear a mask, and you will need to have a current Driver’s License that will be checked in our Raptor Security System. Raptor® provides a line of sight as to who is always in our school. The system provides school and districtwide reporting for all visitors, volunteers, and contractors that have signed in/out of our buildings.
This is
important for safety reasons.
HICKORY BEND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENT SAFETY VEHICLE TRAFFIC FLOW IN THE OVERFLOW PARKING LOT Thank you for the attention you have all given to ensuring safety in the parking lots. However, despite our best efforts, we have still suffered a number of “close calls” due to both speed and traffic flow. In order to increase safety, the following is being asked of all vehicular traffic. If you plan to park your vehicle… • Please use the overflow parking lot that is shared with the school and the church. • Please ENTER the shared parking lot from the NORTH (nearest the stoplight), and EXIT the shared parking lot from the SOUTH (near 192nd street). This will encourage one-way traffic in and out of the shared parking lot. If you plan to remain in your vehicle to dropoff/pick up your student… • Please enter and exit the parking area

through the north entrance (nearest the stoplight). Please adhere to the cone patterns and do not drive around a vehicle that is slightly delayed. Please do not drive between cones.
At All Times… • Please travel at slow speeds. • Please obey the direction of the staff.
Thank You for Your Cooperation!
