ISSUE: 005 / JANUARY YEAR: 2022
LONGWOOD SCHOOL
On December 27th, 2021, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) updated its isolation and quarantine guidelines by moving from a ten (10) day isolation/ quarantine period to a five (5) day isolation/quarantine period. However, it is not yet clear what the recommendations are for K-12 schools, as those recommendations have not been updated by the CDC or Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). Therefore, we will continue to use the ten (10) day isolation/quarantine period. The school District will keep our families notified as information comes in. Dr. Reggie Patterson, Ed.D, PRINCIPAL

“THANK YOU SHEDD AQUARIUM ” On December 17th, 2021, our 1st grade students were excited about a field trip to the Shedd Aquarium. The Shedd Aquarium provides the greatest learning experience for students of all ages. Students, teachers, and parents were all ready for the first field trip of the school year. However, there was a mix-up in the scheduling of the bus service to the aquarium and the trip was canceled on the morning of the trip. The Shedd Aquarium was informed of the problems that occurred and offered an alternative for the day. They sent a live animal presentation to Longwood. An hour after we canceled, the Shedd Aquarium came to Longwood with a presentation of live reptiles for our students. Thank you for your kindness, Shedd Aquarium. The field trip has been rescheduled.

Parents did you know that if your child is absent, you can request a recorded version of their teacher’s lesson? We want to keep students on track, and this is a great way for ensuring students don’t fall behind if they miss a class. You can also request a recorded lesson if your child is struggling and they need to see the lesson again. Please reach out to your child’s teachers and take advantage of this great resource.
NWEA MAP TESTING During the period of January 10th - 19th, 2022, your child will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a computer or tablet. The specific date for each grade level is listed below. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students. MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level. Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly. MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject and have the same starting performance level. Each school year, students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade take the tests three (3) times a year.
