Most influenced by & why: I have been influenced by a lot of different people throughout my life but there are a few people who have influenced me more so than others; those people being my grandparents and my Tia Emma. My grandparents have influenced my beliefs and how to be a Godly person to the best of my abilities. My Tia Emma has taught me that no matter what, something good is coming along as I keep my faith. God will bless those who do good to others even when they don’t deserve it. She is the type of woman I aspire to be because she is strong and loving. Most memorable moment: The day I officially became a sponsor parent was my most memorable moment. I was on a mission trip to Guatemala and I met this girl named Aylin. Parents: Monica and Jerry Curry Grandparents: Ben Trevino and Mary Tamez Extra-Curricular Activities with Honors & Achievements: Band 1-2; Art 4, VASE Area Qualifier 4 Hobbies: I enjoy fishing, spending any time with family and friends, drawing and painting, listening and producing music, and traveling. Most influenced by & why: Throughout my senior year I have been influenced by many people. Undergoing a state of depression and anxiety, it is hard to find my true and better state of mind. As a Senior, I can say I have been most influenced by a speaker who presented at WISD towards the end of 2019, Baylor Barbee. After his presentation to the high school, I was influenced enough, and intrigued by his message as it came across to me. So much so, that I decided to contact him for a little more influence in finding a better state of mind. This led to daily talks and now some might say we are pretty good friends. Following recent activities, he has helped me find the better me and has encouraged me to work harder for my future and continue doing what I love. Most memorable moment: My most memorable moment would include the 2020 Vase Art Competition. I have been considered an artist by my family and friends for many years but never once had the idea of presenting my artwork any further. Hearing so many compliments about some of my art, even over a piece of art I am normally not too fond of, was one of the most refreshing moments to me. I have always let my anxiety take control over whether or not to further explore and show off my skillset and to receive such amazing feedback following the 2020 Vase Competition has inspired me to continue on and continue doing what I love and to never be afraid to explore hidden parts of me. Future plans: Following graduation, I hope to attend college or any music-based school to further explore my skill in music production in hopes of taking part in the music industry one day. I hope to start a family one day of my own and to live in a nice house. I plan to take great all-around care of my family. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? In 10 years I see myself doing something I love with the work and willing effort put into it. I see myself with a home, an amazing woman and possibly even a kid of my own. I am unsure entirely of what the future may hold but in time, and effort included, I see myself being successful in what I love and accomplishing my hopes and dreams for the future.

Runnels County Graduation 11

Valedictorian - Seth Brown Seth Brown will not only graduate from Olfen High School with his high school diploma, he’ll also graduate with an Associate Degree in Art. Brown’s time at the small high school surrounded by west Texas cropland has been well spent. Brown was the first president and one of the founders of the school’s FFA chapter, helping to launch it alongside Ag teacher Mark Pittman in just one year. It typically takes 2 years to launch an FFA chapter. Brown was also the founding reporter for the FFA chapter and has worked on the yearbook. Brown, who lives 35 miles away in San Angelo, came to attend Olfen high school specifically to work on an Associate degree, “I was here in pre-k or kindergarten and we moved to San Angelo years ago. I ran into a friend of mine who was still going to high school out here and he told me about the dual credit courses. I decided that this is where I wanted to come for school because of that.” Brown is a prime example of how excellent time management, hard work and focus can pay dividends to students. Olfen ISD uses a 4-day school week and has “Option Day” On Fridays. On those “Option Days” the kids watch movies in a classroom, play in the gym, eat popcorn and work on various crafts in the cafeteria. In 2018 on a visit to the school I found Brown studiously at work while others were at play. On that day, as I walked the hallways, room to room, I saw kids enjoying the myriad of activities in rooms filled with laughter and light-hearted fun. Then I passed teacher Timothy Parks’ classroom. Parks is the math teacher and football coach. Brown was sitting in Parks’ classroom working on math course work on a computer. Parks was there beside Brown, helping him along. Everyone else in the school was involved in some extracurricular activity, except for Brown. He takes his education seriously. Brown has already been accepted to Angelo State University and will study for a Bachelor Degree in Engineering, “I’ll start taking pre-engineering classes in the fall and want to get my Bachelor’s degree, then get a job that will hopefully help pay for me to get my Master’s degree. Study groups will be my friends.”

Alexis Sanchez Alexis Sanchez was born in San Angelo, Texas to Jose and Rachelle Sanchez. Alexis began attending Olfen High School her Junior Year. While at Olfen, Alexis attended Western Texas College to earn 18 dual credit hours. Alexis Sanchez played volleyball, basketball, and track her Junior and Senior year. She was an active member of the Olfen FFA and enjoyed volunteering her time with various school activities. Alexis Sanchez has been accepted into Colorado Mountain College and plans to pursue a degree in Photography. Her goal is to gain an Internship with CNN news while attending CMC.
