Good afternoon and welcome for the second time this season to our friends from Beckenham. That FA Cup meeting in September was a cracker, and we might have edged it but had to settle for a 22 draw. Beckenham had an outstanding run to the fourth qualifying round and will fancy their chances of being in the play-off battle this season, so another tough afternoon is in prospect. But after picking up seven points from our last three games we’re in good shape ourselves. Following last Saturday’s game at VCD was a real rollercoaster – I was convinced they would get a lastgasp goal after making it 4-3. But we held on and when I bumped into Drew outside Sainsbury’s on Sunday morning he assured me that we were worthy winners and the score made it sound as if the game was more fraught than it was. We also had to play Harrison Parker in goal, which makes it an even more impressive win. Last time out at home to Sevenoaks we produced our best home display of the season, a repeat today would be very well received.
Enjoy the game and see you in a fortnight against Hythe Town.

MANAGER’S NOTES
We welcome everyone back for today's league match against Beckenham Town.
The lads have been in good spirits this week after last week's terrific away win at VCD Athletic.
It looked like it was going to be one of those days even before kick off. Some paperwork confusion meant we were without a goalkeeper before a ball had been kicked and this meant we had to play the game with Harrison Parker in goal and have a shuffle outfield to make us as solid as we could.
Deano Perana replaced Harrison alongside Glenn Wilson at centre half and was terrific. Special mention must also go to new signing Junior Savane, who we have dual-signed from Dulwich Hamlet.
I thought he was superb and for a 19year-old to come in on his first appearance and play the way he did was a positive sign for us and I believe he will only get better! Thanks to Barnsey at Dulwich for his help with getting the loan agreement sorted.
Today will be a tough game but as we proved in the FA Cup game against them earlier in the season we are more than a match for Beckenham and indeed for any team in this league.
What I now want from the lads is for them to show a bit of consistency and to start putting a nice little run together. We have picked up seven points from our last
DREW COONEY
three league games and I have no doubt we can have a really good Christmas period if we can get a good result today.
Thanks again for all the support and I look forward to seeing you at the game.
Good luck to us - Drew

CHAIRMAN’S NOTES
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to The OHOB Community Stadium for today’s Isthmian League South-East Division match against Beckenham Town.
We extend a warm welcome to Jason Huntley, his players and staff, the Beckenham Town officials and supporters as well as to today’s referee Joel Lamping and his assistants Darren Eaton and Ian Lane. We trust you all enjoy your short stay and our hospitality.
This will be the third time the two teams have played each other this season. The previous two encounters were in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, the first here at East Court finishing 22. Beckenham Town won the replay 3-1 and went on to beat Dartford and then Binfield before losing to Dagenham and Redbridge of the Vanarama National League in the Fourth Qualifying Round at home in front of a 1,661 crowd.
Our visitors’ squad this afternoon could feature three ex-Wasps in top scorer Louie Theophanous (13 goals), captain Danny Waldren and Stefan Cox. Last Saturday, Beckenham beat Burgess Hill 2-1 with Waldren clinching victory in the final minute after Jamarie Brissett had put them ahead in the second minute and the Hillians equalising within a minute.
Their scheduled match at home against Chatham Town on Wednesday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and they currently occupy sixth spot with 26 points from 14 matches, four places above Wasps who have played 15 and are on 20 points, a tally that we didn’t reach until midJanuary last season in our 21st match.
Wasps had a superb and well deserved 4-3 win on Saturday against VCD Athletic after trailing 2-0 at half-time. Samuel Williams (Benga) scored very early in the second half and captain Glenn Wilson’s powerful header from a corner levelled the score on 57 minutes. Wasps then took the lead, Max Walsh scoring the third with 14 minutes left, and Omar Folkes effectively clinched the match converting his spot kick in the 87th-minute after Tariq Straker was brought down in the box. Anthony Adesite then saw red for VCD, who still
managed a late goal during the eight minutes of added time.
We travel to Sittingbourne next Saturday (kick off time still to be confirmed) and then host Hythe Town on Saturday 17th. Over Christmas we will be away at Haywards Heath on Boxing Day (Monday 26th - 3pm kick off) and start the New Year off with a home match against Chichester City on Monday 2nd January, kick off 3pm.
Jay De Vito’s Under 18s are in action here in the Isthmian Youth League next Thursday 8th December against Kingstonian (ko 7.30pm) and Andy Willis’ and Grant Hearn’s Under 23s then host Faversham Town here the following Thursday in the Isthmian Development League.
I would like to thank you all for coming along this afternoon and whatever the outcome of the match, I trust everyone enjoys their visit to The OHOB Community Stadium and I wish you all a safe journey home.
Enjoy the match

PROGRAMMES FROM THE PAST
As we enter December 2022 I’ve got a couple of programmes to share with you for games played in the past in the first few days of December.
First up we have East Grinstead v Hailsham Town on Saturday 1 December 2007. It was a quarter final match in the Sussex County League Cup.
Hailsham were in division one of the County League and were having a good season in sixth place. We were in division two of the County League but, under manager Steve Norris, we were having a great season – so far we’d played 13 league matches and had won them all. Though we had not been quite as successful in our Cup matches – this quarterfinal being our last chance to reach a cup final.
Lee Quinn put our programme together in those days – with help from Bruce Talbot of course – and, with Christmas approaching, he spoke about the East Grinstead Monopoly game. We were part of it and editions were now available in various shops in the town –however it was proving popular, and supplies were getting a bit low with new deliveries probably not arriving until the New Year.
We had a full match report of our most recent game at home to Mile Oak. Tom Saunders scored two first-half goals and Ben Burns scored a third early in the second half.
Our tempo dropped after that and Steve Norris was disappointed that we conceded a goal a couple of minutes from the end, though there was still time for Michael Belli to score his first ever goal for the first team to give us a 4-1 win.
Steve Norris also pointed out that we had some “tricky fixtures coming up in December with four successive away games”. These games would of course test us.
And we did make progress in the match
against Hailsham with Tom Saunders scoring both goals in our 2-0 win. Winter weather got in the way of those tricky December away matches – only two of the four were played, one of which we lost.

Second up and just six years ago we have an Isthmian League match East Grinstead v Hythe Town on Saturday 3 December 2016.
Bruce Talbot’s notes start by telling us that this is the first of three successive home matches, though not if our pitch was frozen solid as it had been earlier in the week. Indeed, we had played an away match against Corinthian Casuals on the Tuesday evening which had to be abandoned after 60 minutes because the pitch had got too icy.
Match reports included a last-minute loss at Sittingbourne and a long trip to Guernsey for a 2-1 defeat – Marcus Elliott scoring for us late in the first half though Guernsey scored some 30 seconds later before the referee blew his half-time whistle, a goal which proved to be the winner! Our keeper Chris Haigh saved a second-half penalty.
The programme’s league table shows us in 19th place (24 teams in the league then) with Hythe going well in sixth place. So how did the game go? There is a familiar tale to tell. After just seven minutes we took the lead through Tashi Kwayie and a few minutes before halftime it got even better when Jerome Roseje’s header looped over the Hythe keeper.
However early in the second half Hythe pulled a goal back and they were back in the game. With 20 minutes left they made it 2-2 and then guess what? Right at the end Hythe scored again to take the points back to the Kent coast.
If you’ve had your memory jogged by this article then I’d be happy to hear from you at lestermedcalf@btinternet.com.
Six years since we let slip a 2-0 lead and lost 3-2 to Hythe
