ISTHMIAN LEAGUE | SOUTH EAST DIVISION SATURDAY 15TH MARCH 2025 | KICK OFF 3PM

ISTHMIAN LEAGUE | SOUTH EAST DIVISION SATURDAY 15TH MARCH 2025 | KICK OFF 3PM
The Vistavis Community Stadium College Lane | East Grinstead | RH19 3LS
Tel: 01342 325885
Good afternoon and welcome back to the Vistavis Community Stadium, particularly to our visitors from Herne Bay and, of course, our match officials.
Both teams had good results on Tuesday. I thought we were excellent in our 2-1 win over Beckenham Town, especially in our defensive work. When the chances came we took them and we won't see too many better free-kicks all year than the one Charlie Gibson scored with to put us in front.
Meanwhile, Herne Bay were winning 5-1 at Erith Town and, like ourselves, can look upwards rather than over their shoulders. Hopefully it will make for an open and attractive game.
The March fixture schedule is pretty relentless. On Tuesday we make the relatively short trip to play-off contenders Merstham before embarking on a lengthier trip next Saturday to Hythe, a side we beat ten days ago.
The boys are on a good run at the moment with ten points from our last six games. Get behind the team today and hopefully that form can continue!

We welcome everyone for the third game in seven days against Herne Bay. They are off the back of a great 5-1 win on Tuesday away at Erith Town, so don’t be misled by their league position as they are without doubt one of the more established teams at this level.
We too are off the back of a great result on Tuesday night with a convincing 2-1 win over play-off hopefuls Beckenham Town. The lads were fantastic throughout and really deserved the win. That’s three games unbeaten with six more to come this month so plenty of opportunities to extend that undefeated run.
It was good to have Charlie Harris back on Tuesday and both new signings Brady and Chris got some minutes which was also really pleasing.
For me there were a couple of stand out performances from Ricardo Thonpson in midfield and Matt Wearie, who along with the returning Harrison Parker has really shored us up defensively over the last few games.
We hope to continue the good form today before we have another really tough game against the league's form team Merstham away on Tuesday night.
As ever we thank everyone for their support home and away and look forward to seeing you all at today’s game. Please get behind the boys.
Thanks Drew

I'm going back a few years for programmes produced for two games played in the past on today's date. First up is East Grinstead v Peacehaven on 15 March 2008 in division two of the Sussex County League.
Our programme back then - which was produced by Lee Quinn and Bruce Talbot – was a good read with lots of different items and it even had its own “looking back” piece. It went back 60 years to 13 March 1948 - “well almost the same date” - and told us that we had been at home to Worthing. The match wasn't played here at East Court but on our previous ground at West Street (shared with the East Grinstead Cricket Club). We had won 4-0 with Aubrey Sinden and Bert Pope each scoring twice. Let's move to 2008 with the programme's league table showing us top of division two with our visitors from Peacehaven in seventh place. There are three different pieces in the programme talking about our 2 most recent games – at home to Broadbridge Heath where we had to wait to the 90th plus minute before seeing a goal. Fortunately it came to us thanks to Tom Saunders. Then a midweek trip to Lancing where Lancing scored an early goal with Marc Pelling and Michael Belli quickly responding to put us ahead well before half time. Only one goal in the second half and it didn't come our way as Lancing equalised some five minutes from the end. We had played the away league game against Peacehaven in January and our team manager Steve Norris tells us that they fully deserved to beat us 3-1 after we scored first through Liam Bull. It had been only our second league defeat. And here at East Court Peacehaven scored the first goal. And for a long time it looked like the only goal. But with 10 minutes left we had a penalty which Mannie Neville converted. And to make things even better Ben Burns scored a winning second goal five minutes later.
Next we'll have a look at the programme for East Grinstead v Chichester on Saturday 15 March 2014 in division one of the Sussex County League with Marc Pelling on the front cover. Richard Tramontin's Chairman notes tells us that he had had to miss a couple of our recent games –when we only managed to pick up one point – but had seen our most recent game against Dorking which we had won. Fortunately none of the other teams around us in the league had won. He then went on to talk about something we'd like to see here in 2025 – “the weather has improved” and so had the pitch. He then talked about the work that would need to be done to the pitch over the summer break.
Team manager Simon Funnell reminds us that we had played the away match against Chihester in October and we had won 3-1 (goals from Sam Schaaf, Michael Belli and Marc Pelling). And he was also able to congratulate the player - who is now our 2025 team manager - Drew Cooney and wife Gemma on the birth of a baby girl. The programme's league table shows us in fourth place with Chichester 9th. Sam Schaaf and Michael Belli repeated their goal scoring in the away match with a further goal each. A third goal came from Kieran Pamment – his first goal for us - as we won 3-0. If your memory has been jogged by this article then I’d be happy to hear from you at lestermedcalf@btinternet.com.
